You'd like to learn a few things about Kashmir. Since 1947, Kashmir became an international issue when the UN intervened. Several wars have been fought over it in the last decades. But since the UN brokered peace treaties and ceasefire agreements didn't yield any results, the Indian establishment understood that UN is a toothless instrument which won't yield results. The Pakistani state sponsored militancy in Kashmir following it's defeat in 1971 war was a result of it's "bleed India by a thousand cuts" strategy. The UN and the west again ignored that. What followed was a realization that Kashmir will be used by Pakistan as a pawn to keep itself relevant, given it's economic turmoil and reducing western dependence on Pakistan against their war on terror. Indian strategy is to reduce the status of Kashmir from an international dispute to a bilateral one with no country taking stakes into it, so that India can handle Pakistan directly. The proof of this effort can be found in the official statements of European powers like France, UK, Germany and others in addition to USA and even the Middle East such as Saudis and UAE. 10 years back their official statements referred to as Kashmir as "disputed". Since the last 3 or 4 years, that word has disappeared. Even when India abrogated the law that gave Kashmir special status, none of the countries which traditionally took up Kashmir even raised an eye save Pakistan, Turkey and a few other countries like Qatar and Somalia. Most of the countries have turned their back on the Kashmir issue, terming it as a "bilateral" problem in their diplomatic statements. That makes it a loss for Pakistan, not India. However, it increases the threat of terror attacks in India even more because that is the only remaining way for Pakistan to revitalize the issue in international memory. As long as China stays out of this, Kashmir will remain a bilateral issue which most countries would ignore. The moment China jumps in and internationalises it, west will have to look to avoid growing Chinese influence.

UN never intervened in kashmir as if it did it would have been occupied by their peacekeeping force.........also UN has never brokered any treaty between india and pakistan as claimed because kashmir acceded to india legally in 1947 and is thus an integral part of india....pakistan has no lawful right to the part of kashmir it is occupying.......it is pakistan and China which are illegally occupying territory that does not belong to them and india has the legal right to wage war and reclaim those territories......if this happens the UN legally cant do anything as it is their sovereign right

India desperately seeks support from Global Community. And "Preaches" them to adopt "Spiritual Demorcracy" as the fundamental principle of peaceful existence. To earn International respect a naton needs a strong economic foundation, well developed infrastructure and above all unity and cohesion. Unfortunately over the last 11 years India has emerged as a saffron soaked nation of fanatics marching in perfect unity all shouting the same slogan. When fanatical idea is considered patriotism it is unsafe to be intelligent.

Thanks for your candid expose on India's self-created predicament. However, I wonder if you have chosen the right caption "..... ignoring India's Kashmir Problem". As a matter of fact it is of great advantage to India if the world does just that, because if the world analyzes Kashmir Problem they will be encouraged to ask for a plebescite and the true image of Kashmir problem would emerge. That will be the surest manner to shame India and then only the Kashmiris will receive their due and be independent. Please, you need to do one more piece on why they need a plebescite in Kashmir.

A quick Facts check: In 1947 when India and Pakistan became independent countries there were 400+ small and big independent princely states ran by Rajas , Maharajas, nawabs, Nizams etc etc They were told to join either Pakistan or India as per there people wishes and demographics The Muslim rulers of Hyderabad and junagadh announced they will join Pakistan a wrong move as they had majority Hindu population India invaded them and there was an army/police action, fair enough as they should be part of India Kashmir had 80% Muslim population and a Hindu Maharaja who delayed to make a decision and as result there was an uprising by the locals and the people freed some area of Kashmir which is now Pakistan controlled Kashmir. Mr Nehro asked the Maharaja to sign a treaty to amalgamate Kashmir with India and the Air drop troops to the capital That’s was the start of the conflict The matter was discussed in UN and both parties agreed that the people of Kashmir will decide there future through a UN sponsored referendum But that never happened as India unilaterally changed its stance and now states Kashmir is an integral part of India denying Kashmiris the right of self self determination hence the conflict still there They only way to resolve this conflict via dialogue including Kashmirs and there will be some give and take from both sides

I'll be fair. I have nothing against India. But India's pretext to strike Pakistan is that Pakistan (meaning some part of its State apparatus) is responsible for the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Otherwise, what's the difference between India using a terrorist attack as a pretext to bomb another country any different than what the US or Israel had been doing? No one ever saw evidence of Pakistan's complicity. Furthermore, you only have moral justification to strike Pakistan if its State apparatus was responsible. If it's a lone terrorist who happens to come from 'X', then that's not valid, as extremists can come from anywhere. From the point of view of most of the world (except Israel), India striking Pakistan was a choice and wasn't justifiable. The international consensus was fair: condemn terrorism in all of its forms, condemn India withdrawing from the water sharing treaty, and asking both parties to de-escalate from further violence and resolve their differences. This was the position of China, Russia, the US, Japan and many other countries, and this is fair to both sides.

India did not exist until 1947 when it was created by the British Empire, when the British left the Indian Subcontinent. Would it be better to divide India into 300 countries, which is what India was before 1947? In 1947 The British united India into one country. Maybe that was a mistake?
