Wow! I needed to hear this. Exactly what i feel here. Living in India since 35 years. And yes its worsening since Modi came to power.
What i experience is people became very selfish and unethical in there behaviors.
Many many jobless young boys roaming the streets and behaving goonda like.
India became pathetic.

Right?? I felt that things have downgraded a lot in the past few years. The quality of products and services have fallen, prices have gone up. People on an average are more religious and nationalistic. I came to India after 3 years and thought It seemed stark coz I wasn't here but things have gone worse.

Jayant is probably using an older Apple iphone made in China. Try buying the latest iphone 16. It clearly shows "assembled in India". Most of the popular Mercedes Benz models are assembled in India. Yes, corruption is a big challenge. But India is growing economically into a powerhouse despite corruption.

Sir, we are going in the right direction because...it's the only way to go. However ...we take 10 steps in the right direction...and corruption puts us 50 steps in the regression mode. This happens simply because the wrong people get the opportunities and the good ones are left out. Giving rise to a higher crime rate, brain and now even labour drain and a poor quality of life.

My friend and I was asked by an Indian for directions. I shooked my head to my friend and he didn't give directions. That Indian visitor took umbrage with my shake of my head. He asked why I had asked my friend not to give him directions!
I rounded on him and told him that he hadn't shown any humility in his request. He didn't say "excuse me or any other form of greeting and I also told him that previous experience has shown that a "thank you" wouldn't be forthcoming after we help him. He stood there with his mouth open absorbing his lesson in humility!

That is very common to them. I have had this encounter a few times before. When we ask others for directions. We normally approach them in a polite and courteous way like say hi! or excuse me may I know how to go to this place. And say thank you when they help us.
But the Hindians are different. They come straight to you and just say subway station, subway station, where is the subway station. Very impolite and uncivilized. Even dogs will wag tails to us first if they want something to eat. Especially when the dogs see us eating something.
I told this to my friend. He said to me, next time when the Hindians ask you for directions with such impolite approach, if they ask for A direction, point the B direction to them. Let them get lost.
 
这在印度人中太常见了。我自己就遇到过好几次：正常人问路都会礼貌地说"你好"或"打扰下，请问去某地怎么走"，得到帮助后也会道谢。

Let add more spices to the conversation...To be a great power you need to trade massively within your own neighborhood...example they were involved in RCEP but when it come to signing the deal India chicken out...such a tragedy. RCEP Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. It accounts for approximately 30% of the world's population and 30% of global GDP. Specifically, this translates to about 2.2 billion people and a GDP of roughly $29.7 trillion.
RCEP includes 15 countries (10 ASEAN members plus Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand), representing roughly 30% of the global population.
I have one advice for Modi...from wise Chinese leader Deng xiaoping "hide your strengths, bide your time."...to be practical India is not a great power. Your ego is larger than yourself...sorry to be so unpalatable & realistic.

I can agree with some points, but let me tell you as a person who visited India after many many years, it has improved economically, no doubt. Socially, it’s degraded…television is awful, pop culture sucks, too much sectarianism. There are both goods and bads of Modi. He is like any regular politician who has been in power for very long.
This battle of aligning with either football teams is just sad. I hope the world stops thinking in this way. This applied both to Indian domestic politics and the new BRICS versus West nonsense. India should focus on fixing its populations well being….there is a long way to go. The biggest problem in India is taking the progress of past 2 decades to their heads. There must be a reality check on where the country is and yes India should be humble and learn from its very successful neighbour China.

Unfortunately what Jayant described are symptoms of the imperialist / colonialist disease manifesting in different ways in both India and Pakistan. There is no easy cure, it will take generations to undo the damage, if we ever get there without destroying each other and taking the world with us to hell.

To those who are deluding themselves and others about India's recent successes. I would urge them to give specific examples of where Modi's India is succeeding. The guest here on David's program gives specific examples to arrive at his conclusions and make his point. It's easy to make two sentence potshots in the comments attacking this guest but these comments substanciates nothing. Remember, Denial is not a river in Egypt.
