xiaomi is all over the place in Asia, then Europe and now Latin America, the US is the only place where nobody knows the brand, point is it's not just a "China thing" like other brands from that country.

I am so glad I moved to Thailand. Not only is the cost of living 1/3rd, I get to have all these amazing Chinese products for standard retail price. Thailand is not afraid of China's economy and we don't have to suffer

I laugh out loud when American媒体 use expressions like "Chinese companies are rapidly catching up" or "quality is almost the same as Western manufacturers." Consumers outside the US know that the Chinese have long surpassed the Americans in quality and technology, and only the Americans themselves live in the illusion that Santa Claus exists

Bloomberg hasn't done its homework. xiaomi doesn't manufacture its smart home products directly. Rather, it sexts products from various OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and ODMs (Original Design Manufacturers) for its smart home ecosystem.
xiaomi's role is to set up the infrastructure and standards, and then open up its platform, or "park," to these partners.

xiaomi is the Ikea of tech. They can heat and cool your house. They can transport you. They can fill almost your entire kitchen with appliances (they're missing a dishwasher atm). They can clean your house. They can secure your house. They can light your house. They can transport you. They can power your devices. They can provide equipment to do basic DIY work.
And that is just xiaomi proper.

I started using xiaomi in 2015, this was before anyone had even heard of the company in the UK.. My wife still uses her Mi Note 2 phablet from 2016 as a tablet now, its still on its original battery and the thing won't die (9 years).... Crazy but true

This isn't determined by the factories themselves, but by the prices offered by American supermarket buyers. It's impossible to push prices down to the lowest possible level while still demanding high quality. It's not that the factories lack the production capacity.
中国既能制造出世界顶尖的优质产品,也会生产一些质量较低的商品。这种情况其实并不是由工厂自身决定的,而是取决于美国超市采购商给出的价格区间。既要将成本压到最低极限,又同时要求保证高品质,这根本就是不可能完成的任务。并不是说这些工厂缺乏生产能力,问题的根源在于价格与质量之间的平衡关系。

This might be an interesting insight, my personal phone is an Apple, but my secondary is a xiaoMi product, so I have access to both Apple and Android ecosystems. In terms of performance, both are perfectly fine for what they are needed for, but it’s gotten me through the door with xiaoMi. Our hair dryer, light bar for my home office, home sensors and many other accessories are all made by xiaoMi and that has got me into their ecosystem. So because of that, it means over the period I may have spent similar money for both Apple and xiaoMi, but in terms of number of products I own xiaoMi far outweighs Apple. In effect Apple may have larger margins for profit on their products, but xiaoMi has helped our daily life more with more variety of devices that are all made very well.
说来也是一个挺有意思的观察,我的主力机型用的是苹果,备用机则是小米的产品,这样一来我就能同时体验到苹果和安卓两大生态系统。就性能而言,两款手机都完全能满足日常需求,但正是这台小米的设备为我打开了新世界的大门。如今我们家的吹风机、居家办公用的照明灯带、环境传感器,还有一大堆配件清一色都是小米制造的,不知不觉就被圈粉成了他们家生态链的用户。这么算下来,虽然我在苹果和小米两家投入的资金可能不相上下,但要是论拥有的产品数量,小米可比苹果要多得多啦。说到底,苹果或许确实能从产品中赚取更高的利润,但小米却凭借品类丰富的智能设备更深入地改善了我们的日常生活,而且每件产品都做得相当靠谱。

I'm changing my 2018 audi a5 sportback for a denza z9 gt. The glass broke for me when Audi tried to sell me separately rear seat heating on top of my 44.000 Euros purchase.
For a couple thousand more I'll get a dozen more features like driver assistance ( which audi also tried to sell me for two thousand euros more,1800 to be exact) , both rear and front seat heating, mini fridge , massaging seats and infinitely more luxurious interior.
A car also designed by Wolfgang egger formerly of Audi,oh such beautiful irony!!

If you just looking at the industries that xiaomi is in (no matter the market size and profits), xiaomi is Apple (phones) + Tesla (EVs) + Panasonic (home appliances).
如果你仔细看看小米所涉足的行业(先不论市场规模和利润),小米简直就是苹果(手机)+ 特斯拉(电动车)+ 松下(家电)的集合体。

The cold hard truth is all the gangsters in my city use xiaomi products ranging from smartphones to vacuums, air fryers, toothbrush etc and they have love it. Competitive pricing for reliable products.

The USA did most of the initial research and development of these technologies. Chinese companies perfected the manufacturing. China still lags behind in future technology but is catching up.

Many of us Europeans too love the xiaomi devices.
I have personally no complaints about the quality of my 14T phone or my smartwatch. Delightful devices I can use while kept my kidneys as well.

Many of us Europeans disagree. Some of us may even slightly disapprove of the Chinese practices of IP theft through joint venture requirements, massive market distortion by selling below cost thanks to subsidies or even of state-sponsored systemic industrial espionage. Just take a look at the SU7 and compare it with a Porsche Taycan, it‘s ridiculous. I personally do have complaints and would never buy a Chinese EV simply because of its image from the european perspective.

6:17 You're right about one thing: Apple and xiaomi have different goals, but your explanation is bafflingly wrong.
The reason Apple failed to make a car is that the company doesn't want to compromise on its profit margins and insists on having end-to-end control of its products.
xiaomi, on the other hand, is a success story in integration. The company doesn't mind collaborating and sharing profits with partners, as long as the final product can be successful. I mean, you have to actually make something before you can claim to disrupt the market, right?

I really enjoyed this video. I’ve always felt like China has had the capability of planning decades into the future when they face a problem, they know that they can’t solve it immediately, but they take steps to conquer it in the long term. This story right here is no different kind of built for the next hundred years and not for the next 10 so it’s not surprising to me that a company like this has been able to get into the Car market now I’m American I’m a patriot. But I’ve been going to China for the last 20 years on and off and I’ve closely seeing how it’s developed from the lows to the highs. If you go to China right now, the vast majority of the vehicles are electric, it’s insane. How a one’s very busy intersection was filled with the smell of cars to now … Just the occasional trucks and cleaner air. Giving them credit where it’s due does it make me pro Chinese but basically just solidifies what I just said. it is very scary and also very inspirational where they’re going. The USA, the largest economy in the world …. that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s gonna be the same thing 100 years from now. China is moving relatively quickly and we’re starting to lag behind. What xiaomi achieved in eV is really something. Very very few other companies could have done the same even in China. Huawei is arguable the other one which did it.

Due to govt control Companies in China primary goal is to do things that will raise Chinas standing in the world when it comes to tech/science to be viewed at top in the world while companies in america do the bare minimum for maximum profit for their shareholders, even if it is bad for the country
