I think for Chinese in China it's only logical to buy Chinese brand phones since it's not only cheaper but also got tons and up to date features in any lineup of the brand, and since they're Chinese in China I don't think they'd mind any bloat ware or any security breaches at all, so it's the best deal

This interview is much better than the Korean interview because most people speak facts about the real life usage (for example- battery life, and Iphone for security ) compared to Koreans who only choose Iphone brands for trend and popularity. But at the end of the day, it is consumers choice.

Brit here, but living in China for a good while.
Just recently upxed my phone to an Oppo FindX8 Ultra, which I waited for, knowing the camera would be superb. The phone as a whole is excellent, I'm delighted with it. I'm Android all the way, would never have an iPhone.
The woman who said Android can't have features like "floating island" - the FindX8 has it. I don't know if the implementation is the same on the iPhone (it might be) but it's actually really useful. I get a live upxe on eleme deliveries in there, as well as other data.
Apple make a great product, no question. But where they really excel is brand image and marketing.

I converted to Vivo last year after 15 years with iPhone. Blows the later out of water. It does, however, lack some frequencies if you travel overseas, especially to the US. But in China it's just so much better, both the localized ecosystem and image quality.

As a motion graphic designer I've been using apple products for years, like ipad pro, iphone, imac, macbook etc. But I'm planning to switch to PC and Android phone next time. The whole mac product is a mess when it comes to AI, and that's a huge down for content creator today. Also, everytime I buy tokens ios always cost around 35% more due to the Apple tax, like Dou Bi(douyin tokens) or Qi Dian Bi(web novel tokens), it just made me look stupid to pay more than others while buying the exact same thing.

The Chinese mobile market is getting to the point now where, despite being banned in America, is able to thrive within just China. This is not even considering their growing influence in Eastern European countries, India/Southeast Asia, Australia, and South America. It's also interesting to see a pretty clear line being drawn in the sand among Android devices globally, with North America/South Korea firmly supporting Samsung, China with Chinese brands (but not Samsung), Japan with Chinese brands and a couple of Japanese brands such as Toshiba (with Samsung marketing conspicuously leaving out Samsung and just referring to their phones as "Galaxy"), and Europe carrying all brands.
tl;dr, in terms of the mobile device industry, China really doesn't need to market to overseas anymore. There's enough demand among Chinese to buy Chinese made phones, and Chinese r&d has enough knowledge and experience to continue innovating. And clearly, Samsung isn't even going to try and break into the Chinese market as it's basically pointless now.

The overall trend is that iPhones are gradually losing competitiveness in the Chinese market, with their market share on a downward trajectory — currently below 15%. I used to use an OPPO phone, then switched to an iPhone last year, but was quite disappointed to find that its screen sensitivity, response speed, and battery life were clearly inferior to OPPO’s. So I’m planning to switch back to OPPO after this one. To sum it up in one sentence: the iPhone's performance is far from worthy of its price tag. That’s likely why it saw rare steep discounts during this year’s 618 shopping festival — even Apple seems to have realized that its pricing is no longer competitive in the Chinese smartphone market.

So what can we gather from these interviews with gen z's? That they're not so dissimilar to other Gen Z's around the world. They each highlighted different factors in choosing their smartphones. Would there be a higher preference for domestic phones? Yea of course, as long as they are reliable. And Huawei and xiaomi has proven to be good and reliable phones. But people should also recognise that there is a preference towards simplicity and minimalism found in Apple.

As a western person (Russian) I see Chinese phones as a great phones in terms of price = characteristics, but for me Chinese phones OS and design are overcomplicated, it's hard to find minimalist phone with minimalistic design and software. Also the cameras take oversaturated pictures. Anyways I still like using Chinese phones and these are some things that I would love to see changed in future.

Atleast in China , people have much knowledge of phones they are using and have respect for every brand . Korea is on the opposite side , deciding the personality of people through type of phone they are using and only liking some phone for its design instead of features .

as an american, i never liked most android devices since they were never optimized, had clunky ui, etc and i loved iphones but hated the fact i couldn't install any custom apps without going through hoops and having them expire every week. i just simply dealt with it since it was my favorite in everything except for the experimentation part. it was always fast and worked well, but then i recently switched to oneplus and it changed my view of apple, their software is just as fast but also better in every way, more customizable, and has amazing cameras. flagship for less than samsung's ultra phones, it's simply amazing how far ahead Chinese phones are because they put more care into how their users percieve the experience.

I bought an iphone in 2021. After setting it up, when I tried to transfer some files from an android via bluetooth. That's when I found out apple doesn't allow this move from another brand other than apple. So it ends up in the drawer until now.

This is inaccurate. Looking at sales volume, Huawei's smartphone sales have grown rapidly. In the second quarter of this year, it has already become the top-selling brand in the Chinese market. Apple's sales, on the other hand, are far from what they used to be, with a severe decline.

iPhone telephoto, signal is not good, but app quality, iCloud+ features, and available accessories are excellent  
I miss Huawei's battery life, signal strengths, nothing comes close  
Samsung Ultra Series telephoto is the best, but the battery just degrades fast after 2 years..  
Just use what suits your budget and needs the most. No point having an expensive phone but living like a beggar

Most of my Chinese friends are using iPhones. I don't think it's for the status but because they got used to their system and the more polished apps the iOS has compared to Android ones. Even the ones who are working in some higher gov positions they use a local brand, mostly Huawei in their meetings with their leaders, but after in their daily life they prefer an iPhone. As a foreigner living in China for 20 years I always use an iPhone because it's easier to move around with English maps, no missing Google stuff and huge variety of accessories to choose. But I also have a second phone, an Android one, usually an Oppo Find X Ultra series because I love their impressive cameras and for their more smoother operating system, the Color Os, that is more (foreigner) user friendly compared to other Android brands out there.

I'm a gadget geek and I use Apple, Moto, Sony and One+ now. I was surprised the good quality of One+, and Sony has still good quality but most people don't know it. My apple is iphone 12, already 5 yrs. Apple and Samsung are too overpriced so I don't want to buy them again.

for the country like China and Korea I think it should be an absolutely reasonable choice to choose a local/domestic phones over Iphone. I mean a better after sales support and an exclusive features that they offered also more values in price point

The sad truth is that people who use iPhone and actually prefer it because of the "simplicity" reason are actually probably low IQ people. Because "simplicity" gives you less options, so why would you ever want less options? Well because you can't handle complexity beyond a certain level and so you become less efficient and more confused with something more sophisticated. In my opinion though, tech shouldn't always adapt to stupid people like it's the trend nowadays, everything is getting so simplified that it lacks any creativity, any hardcore use, any outside norm use-cases, etc.

I've been an Apple user for about 10 years. I buy new iPhone every year when new model releases. And i switched to Chinese brand Vivo this year because there's literally nothing exciting about iPhone16

The girl who said what Chinese phone do better than Iphone is because of their patriotic sentiment is basically a good representation of what modern younger generation Chinese women is. Do things because it's trendy, has no real opinion about anything, but is very anti- anything that is viewed as authoritative. I.e.: men, Chinese culture, and Chinese brands/products.

As a user of both an Android phone and an iPhone (15 Pro Max to be exact). I must say, in terms of technology and features, Android is very far ahead. As the other guy said, iPhones are very easy to use and user-friendly, and that's right. For me, Android has many useful features that cannot be found on an iPhone. I mainly only use my iPhone for the video/camera and banking apps due its stronger security features, optimization for apps, and additionally, for flexing because it is more attractive to most people.

Everyone has different choices, but I find it perplexing that some people still think using an iPhone is cool. In terms of ease of use, domestic Chinese smartphones are more accessible to Chinese users. Nowadays, domestic phones are in no way inferior to the iPhone in terms of both functionality and smoothness. Huawei phones, in particular, offer many features that iPhones lack. Especially in AI, Apple's Siri is far from comparable to Huawei's applications. However, I continue to use the iPhone because I find the iOS system highly user-friendly. More importantly, I rely on macOS's Final Cut Pro for video editing, making the use of an iPhone inevitable.
