All we know is what is reported in the British news, if we are the sort of people who even read British news, because news in the EU don’t mention the UK ever. Brexit is ancient history here, the world has moved on, and only people with a professional interest like myself even take any notice of what happens in the UK.

I think that you might be missing the point. We democratically voted to leave the EU, not because that we don’t care about our European neighbours, but because we were fed up with the controls set by other European countries. The fact that you don’t care about the UK is absolutely fine, we don’t behave in such a selfish way as you. In the UK we will stand back and watch the rest of Europe go back into Covid lock-down, while we carry on as usual. We will watch the British TV news which headlines the rioting accross Europe because of the lock-downs. We will watch with interest to make sure that as we hopefully won’t need to do this ourselves, we won’t make the same mistakes.

I think you’ve a very polarised view of EU news. Plenty of EU news sources (at least in France, Belgium and Netherlands) talk about the UK and supposed shortages. They will happily overstate the issue and they even drag out biased Europeans living in Britain who support those claims. It’s not new, it has been like that for years. Look at how the reporting on the Settlement scheme went. Years of whining even though in general it performed admirably. It’s mostly driven by politics in hopes of driving EU sentiment. Sweden by the way is often portrayed as “problematic” too given they have not joined the Euro yet. Pure speculation but maybe the Swedish are hence less likely to go along with bashing UK?

Well I’d be the last to make a guess on how it works in Sweden but the EU is not just Sweden. Reporting is definitely more prent elsewhere and at times annoyingly so. I also see more European friends posting related things on social media (e.g. empty shelves) than actual people living in the UK. But the EU is massive and I personally get to see mostly news from what are essentially UK’s neighbours which may as a result differ significantly from what one cares about and sees in Sweden.

That may be the case. But still, your friends are friends with someone who lives in the UK so they obviously care more than the average EU-citizen.
