Even if the US returns to its former, pre-Trump self, Europeans can never allow itself to be as exposed again to the US. We must be much more conscious in deciding which countries we want to have exposure to and how much in terms of defence, technology and raw materials.

This is not amateur decision making. This is not a freak coincidence of an outlier leader. This is not something that will be fixed with the next election, even if a Democrat won.
This is the natural evolution of decades of US Far-Right political festering which bases it's identity on being anti-Europe, anti-Democratic, and anti-"Soy". Anything less than the perceived American dominance and your subjugation is unacceptable.

Only difference from today is that earlier, the rogue state had a benevolent mask on it's face; mask of democracy promotion, standing for human rights, charity etc. The mask is now torn off and hence removed completely.

The only obxtive for Trump's war in Iran was for Trump to get thrills over blowing stuff up.  America will never be trusted again unless we (the US) impeach, arrest and jail Trump and his inner circle,  for all the crimes he/they have committed including war crimes.  Followed up by constitutional changes that ensure this never happens again.   In other words we will,  and never should be, trusted again.
