I find it curious that you draw the line at cars tho; honestly IDC if the Chinese make and export cars if it improves the options on the market especially in the EV world because Tesla’s have lower quality than Dodge/Chrysler which is impressive. Maybe instead of crying about China the US needs to start electing in folks that help us be competitive and fuel innovation in the same markets the Chinese are in. That competition will make us both better; and if Chinese companies continue to violate IP laws we should let our domestic companies do the same for anything they create.

So you can spend $100 on Amazon for the same product you can get for $30 on Temu and let your $70 support the “local”California Amazon economy. Or you can keep your $70 by buying on Temu and just tip your local barber or hairdresser the $70. In general, American consumers are more adverse to Chinese brands even if 100% of the product is US made than an American brand that’s 100% made in China - and American companies take advantage of this fact.

This...and the lesson isn''t learned one bit. I build quality tooling/automation and assembly automation for automotive. While I have personally led teams to stand up 2 assembly lines in the US to move work from China since the tariff situation significantly more of our work has still been built in the US and then shipped to place like Vietnam for cheap labor and for not being China. All from your wonderful "American car companies". I know of a company right now pulling work secretly outside of the US and that once the new tooling is completed and installed in Mexico the unx company in the US that currently does the work is getting a bomb dropped on it. They have no clue its coming... It made financial sense for a company to build an entire manufacturing plant in secret in Mexico...duplicates and improvements on all their old tooling, and then they will just abandon the jobs/manufacturing ability in the US throwing away tens of millions of dollars just to avoid paying fair labor rates in the US. All while their primary market is still US citizens and companies buying their product. We also constantly get compared price wise to China...and sadly we are not even held to the same standard. If we were held to the Chinese standard we could be much more competitive but when built in the US we are forced to complete work in non cost effective ways which is okay if that''s what the engineers want but not if they are then going to hand us a bunch of trash from China to fix that is no where near their standards the next day while complaining we cost too much. Its a very real problem in this industry. All so companies like GM and Ford can stand in front of their shareholders and talk about how much money they are making. Meanwhile they are training the entire globe how to take their middle class jobs at lower wages.
