Snow White is the perfect example of why China's movie industry must distance itself from Hollywood. And those Chinese actors/actresses/directors who have tried their shot or are thinking to have a shot in Hollywood, or any other western movie industries, must do some serious rethinking.

Borrowing ideas from different cultures or adapting a story to fit your own culture is not the same as rewriting a traditional fairy tale and keeping the name of the original. How the main character gets her name in his version doesn't even make sense.

I'm pleased you made this point. Growing up in the 80s, we used to call people of mixed race 'half caste' which was obviously an offensive term, although it was never meant as one on my part. Then things progressed and it became 'politically correct' to say mixed race instead. What is wrong with that? People who moan about 'political correctness' are usually just bigots hating others who are not like them.

I watch Korean and Chinese cinema and there's no much in the way of innovation. Both are very formulaic, especially Chinese cinema which is mostly unwatchable from my perspective. Korean is much better but quite infantile at times. A lot of the plots I've seen before from western films and tv from the 70s and 80s. America pumped out a vast amount of movies during the 80s and 90s with a vast array of plots. I'm not seeing anything from China which matches films like Fifth Element, Princess Bride, Close Encounters (1977), Ghostbusters and those are just some fantasy films off the top of my head.

If Disney is really embracing diversity they should make movie of native american stories using native american actor/actress, for instance, Pocahontas. Shooting a white people fairy tale with non-white people seems odd, but the worst is, this actress performs poorly in that role.

I'm surprised they haven't attempted a live action remake of Pocahontas. The movie was beautiful to watch, but the story was very different from history. It wasn't a romantic coupling between her and Smith. For one thing she was barely a teenager and he was much older. She lived and died in England, far away from her home, It would take better writers and a a better director to tell an honest tale of her life, and I don't think Disney has any of those left, just malleable cyphers who agree with the company's directives.

You make a Snow White cartoon with a white dress ; a dog comes by and lifts its leg and her dress becomes it's normal yellow, the car drives by and splatters it with black dots. And she says oh I'll never be snow white again. Can you throw it in your laundry soap. I think 8 billion people will see that commercial at least once
