The United States appears to have begun evacuating its aerial refuelling tanker fleet from Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, moving KC-135 Stratotankers and KC-46A Pegasus aircraft to bases in Europe after sustained Iranian attacks on the facility. At peak, the base was hosting 16 KC-135s and 6 KC-46As — the aircraft that keep US bombers flying on long-range strike missions deep into Iran. Without them in the Gulf, sustaining the current tempo of operations becomes significantly harder. Saudi Arabia's Defence Ministry had previously confirmed the interception of a ballistic missile fired toward the base.
