Don’t be naive, of course apple could and can do it if they want ,  but the answer to investors, if they take several millions to develop a car and then can’t sell it…. That’s a problem, China government subsidies all those costs and. That’s how their car industry has advance so fast.

In twenty years time, when everyone in the developing world drives a well engineered, affordable Chinese EV, nobody will care that they subsidized their industry. It'll be seen as a very shrewd investment. In this case, Apple is the naive one relying on one product from one country to drive its entire future.

I've worked for many of the OEMs and I can tell you what's happening in the industry right now is collective suicide. It matters not who subsidizes what. It's all about who owns the future of automotive tech. BTW, it's not us. No matter how many bombs we drop or how many oil fields we take over.

Chinese EV tech is world leader, but hyper EV's are a proved failed concept. RIMAC can't sell their cars, 'cause buyers want combustion engines,, not  eletric motors.  They want to feel connection to the machine, and a drive-by-wire steering wheel is the opposite of it.
