My personal experience is different. From what I've seen they mostly prefer western celebrities with the "boy band look" . By contrast in western countries we generally prefer men that are more muscular and "rugged". The typical sexy guy in America would be really jacked, have five o'clock shadow and sweaty in a tight shirt after doing some kind of exercise. In China the ideal guy would have a toned physique but not really muscled, have no facial or body hair and would be in a sharp suit or other outfit.

his has been my experience too (as a Caucasian guy you described Chinese women would find attractive). I'm tall (6'2), dark haired, yet fairly "small boned", can't grow a beard, practically hairless everywhere, smooth skin, and lean muscle tone. Asian women tend to find me very attractive overall and the feeling is mutual so it works out REALLY for me. When I saw her, I thought she was downright ugly, with really weird dimensions in a super-long face and hardly a straight tooth in her head. I give props to Chinese for not featuring white people as prominently. Southeast Asia is the worst in this respect where almost their entire film industry was dominated by half white actors and actresses. Modeling, however, white models are competitive even in Asian markets including China’s. The subliminal brainwashing via images is very strong here.

It's not that we like it, we just don't care about it. It's not something that registers as a positive or negative feature. It's an 'East Asian' feature that has racial connotations, but it's fairly neutral in terms of whether someone is pretty or not.

The skin complexion thing makes sense from a status standpoint. Tan skin = working outside = poor = lower social status. White skin = working inside = rich = higher social status.
Now what doesn't make sense from a Western perspective is that it defies logic by being stereotyped thinking. E.g. rich person works inside, but can afford to travel out to exotic locations for the luxury of a tan. Furthermore pale skin often indicates vitamin deficiencies.
The Asian beauty standard I haven't figured out is the unhealthily thin look. Even by Asian health standards it's below a healthy BMI.

People in China are way too used to filter and plastic surgery verison of humans, since those are the one they see on TV or online.
To be honest, i think to a point a lot of them forgot how real natural Chinese look like. Some of them online always complain about Chinese in games or movies that don't look handsome/beautiful enough. The major reason why Simu Liu and Awkwafina are disliked in mainland China is that.
The Chinese animation movie 雄狮少年 (I Am What I Am) was boycotted by some people because characters have small eyes, and tbh they are exactly Chinese looks like.

It’s insane to me that someone like Lucy Liu could be considered not attractive. Maybe my taste is westernised or whatever but I think a lot of Chinese (Asians in general) do suffer from inferiority complexes and internalised racism. South Koreans and their rigid beauty ‘standards’ might be the biggest offenders of them all.
I hate to glaze Hollywood in the slightest but I do think that they are a bit more ‘accepting’ of a variety of beauty (especially in high fashion- while still having strict standards) and be a bit more ‘obxtive’ about what beauty can look like: facial harmony, symmetry, skin complexion (instead of color), bone structure… instead of having whatever standards to be as astereotypical as possible from their ethnicity. I’m not even tryin to be politically correct and say ‘everyone is beautiful’ but I do believe that not all Chinese beauty needs to look like Dilraba or Angelababy. IMO Liu Wen is gorgeous but gets called ‘mid’ all the time in China and i still remember a time where Shu Qi is considered ugly in China (Hong Kong specifically) when she was younger. This is straight up toxic and no wonder it gives our women complexes about our natural features and coloring.

My issue isn’t with the high standards for celebrities, it’s with the fact that there is only one acceptable standard for celebrities nowadays. One kind of beauty that is celebrated (skin color, face shape, features…), especially when it comes to actresses, which then becomes the standard for ‘normal people’ to emulate.There is literally more than a billion of us in China. I don’t buy it that no monolid or tan skinned (just to give an example of ‘undesirable Chinese features’) people exist who are drop dead gorgeous and worthy to be in movies. Just give me SOME variety to represent and celebrate different ethnic Chinese features instead of the same set of eyes, nose, lips with the same whitewashing filters over and over. Give me another Wu Chien Lien who is conventionally pretty yet doesn’t fit the narrow standard that is the norm now.
EDIT: And I’m glad you mentioned male celebrities because yeah what is up with that? We used to have Leslie Cheung, Andy Lau, Wallace Huo, Louis Koo, Huang xiaoming… who were all different looking but all considered handsome… and now everyone looks the same.

I don't think they purposely choose ugly Asians, I think Hollywood casting just tries to focus on "exotic looks" when casting Asians (most speaking about women here). So you get people like Lucy Liu, who is very unattractive by Asian standards, but was perfect for Hollywood since she had a very distinct look, which drew attention to her being non-white.

I assume that the photo on the right in not very good, like may be a video paused not at the best moment. But overall, a) her nose is smaller/narrower. For me personally a smaller nose is always a winner. b) More narrow face is usually better. c) Pale milk-white skin's more beautiful than normal or tanned.
About the last statement I also want to say this. Last time I praised pale skin tone someone reported me for hate speech. If someone wants to do it this time, tell me this. A lot of people in the West get a tan because they think bronze skin looks more beautiful. So why is it allright to like bronze tone, but liking milk white skin is suddenly a racism? What kind of hypocrisy is that? There's no even a race that naturally has this pale skin tone to be racist about.

Ok if this post is true then I’m pissed off on so many levels.China is a huge country filled with different provinces, and the facial features of each province people differ, perhaps even by region WITHIN the province itself. I’m Singaporean Chinese with mainly Fujian ancestry, and basically my family there and I have VERY SLIGHT Austronesian features (darker skin, almond eyes, double eyelids, less angular facial structures), but we are still Han Chinese ultimately. At the end of the day humans are still human and racial bias is present.I'm in the same boat as you too and even going a little north from Shanghai to Nanjing people asked if my friend and I were from Guangzhou...When westerners think Han Chinese is just one genetically homogeneous group I like to remind them that is false and unfortunately there's this lesser known divide even within China today.

It's not that i don't get that they have different beauty standards. What kills me is that it seems VERY common in China for them to just use filters that basically turn them into a completely different human being.That's not a beauty filter.It even seems common that a lot of men in China will use these filters to pose as women to stream/create content.

Different groups especially online are attracted to different looks depending on the era. In the West Marilyn monroe was seen as the ideal beauty standard. Basically what dolly parton modeled her looks on. Now it's Kim Kardashian with Brazilian butt lifts lip filler and tanning. The style has changed in the west.In East Asia to varying degrees it's the doll look for both men and women that's seen as ideal. Speaking personally I think in general westerners find the doll look overly fake and a tad bit creepy. It's a joke that western and east Asian men are attracted to women who don't fit the idea of beauty in either region.

First of all this is fake news. Second of all, I think Americans and some countries in particular have no stance to condemn Chinese people and filters. At least it is only filters, your countries have the highest plastic surgeries per capita. You can look on this website. I think it is misinformation because this is a douyin user, and they have multiple tiktoks with the ai filter malfunctioning on purpose. It is some kind of trend that many douyin users are doing. This specific post might just be a marketing stunt for the beauty filter. Most Douyin users use the same filter, so in China, it's not really all that surprising, but over here in the West, it causes a ruckus. She's not the only one, but it's more prent with older women. There are several older women doing the trend to look young. I downloaded the douyin app just to scope around and that's what I been able to deduce but ofcourse I dont speak Chinese, so take this with a grain of salt.
