The Vik can only deploy for simple training exercises, once a year.  It requires massive maintenance, and can’t fully operate safely past Sea State 4.  It requires short take off aircraft that also require enormous maintenance.  It’s not viable, except to extend coastal defense in calm seas.   Simon did an entire video on the Kiev class disaster.   India has more capable crew, but the class itself cannot justify the cost.  That why she only sails for one training operation a year.
I never understood why India went with a Russian carrier instead of a Western power’s end of service ship.

India seems permanently stuck at near superpower status is the problem. They were technologically and economically ahead of China for awhile and had more international trade and investment too but China really took off in the 90s while India's had slower growth. We've been hearing "India will be the next super power" since their independence but just cant reach it. Probably doesnt help the sheer levels of brain drain as educated Indians have always tried to leave the country where they can make more, face less red tape, and have more opportunities.

I served on the Nimitz. Im just now beginning to appreciate just how advanced our carriers are in the US Navy. While our Navy is advanced and extremely powerful, i don't think our public understands just how far ahead we are compared to anyone else. We are truly the standard. And i am so proud to have done my very small part in protecting our country.  Go Navy!!!

Ok first step to start learning carrier tactics but their aircraft cannot get airborne with a full load of fuel and weapons. Could not see the elevators very good but the narrowness of the deck and arrangement means a slow turnaround time and rearming. In general, not as good as American WW2 aircraft carriers. Yes, the aircraft is better but not the ship.  However, is should be a good first step. The real magic is in the team work on top and below decks.

I felt this video presentation is a made as a propaganda for india, and is sponsored by the indians. To keep the record straight The Indian carriers are def out-matched by lioaning.  Even though they are built under the same concept. The liaoning carriers j15s that are far more capable than mig 29s, they can prepare and launch 3 aircrafts back to back.  Where as the Indian carriers can only launch one at a time. The elevator aboard Indian carriers are inferior to the Chinese because it's too small and narrow and some wider equipment can't be transported on to it. The air defence system is not equivalent to the phalanx in fact it's much more older soviet cold war tech. Can't compared to the Chinese phalanx system. Indian carriers are much slower than lioaning only going 28 knots while the Chinese carrier can go up to 30 knots.
