Because trump and republicans are cutting back on renewable energy. Iowa republicans have been practically killing wind energy. And now America has to try and steal it from other countries and war cost money

It’s high because they are forcing us to pay for AI data centers using massive amounts of electricity to store information on us.
They are using AI Biometrics and surveillance to store all information on us

I don’t understand why in the states like California Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico. Where is the solar power.? Are y’all crazy? It’s sitting right there. Arizona had a huge company making solar power panels. I’d make it law. You have a laws, house built in these states must have an air conditioner. What’s the good of an air conditioner? If you have no power to run it. Solar power should be built on the roof of every new home.

First of all that map is wrong so im not even going to watch the rest. Its says nevada 0% and thats wrong. I live in nevada. My bill has doubled in the last few years. The most was from 2020 to 2024, and i believe the president was Biden. Only saying that because you always try to blame it on trump. Hes only been president for a year. This has been going on for many years.

The British government wants to prosecute the British ambassador to Washington over the Epstein corruption scandal. The British government shouldn't prosecute the ambassador, but rather those who planned, executed, and profited from the Epstein scheme—namely, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and the Israeli Mossad. But Britain is being hypocritical and lying.
@McDonut24
data centers need to contribute to the build out cost since it represents and abnromal amount of demand spike compare to normal population growth of a city.
@t-bonestickyfingers1336
All lies, we are being gouged. Once a company raises the price on things we are forced to buy or accustomed to buying the price will never go back down. It happened during covid, they used supply change disruption as a cover to raise prices and when that problem was fixed they never went back down. How did all these companies report record profits during covid?
@SDGreg
Unfortunately I have found since neither the Government nor Big Energy companies can be trusted, they love to reach their hand into your pocket book. The only real solution is to generate your own power and be independent from the grid as possible.
@LeechyKun
So instead of telling everyone else to conserve or use less energy when they use the least overall, tell Data Centers to do that until more infrastructure is built, simple. And we shouldn't be fitting their bill so they can make billions of more profit at our expense. And people wonder why the Elites rule over us because we allow them to.
@HippiHelmet
My area had a fixed rate for the last few years. That ended last year and the rates MORE than doubled for kwh. I had to shop providers to find on that was only a 60% increase and that was the best deal I could find. It's already bad and going to get worse.
@William1866
Really? I heard about 15 years ago this would happen if you started relying on wind turbines. They showed a city out east that had surging prices because of that.
@asterixky
Data centers need their own power generators.
@badbrnd
We also need to look at the lack of investment by the electricity distribution companies vs the demand for profits during the expansion
@MileHile
Tariffs on Canada and Mexico are esp. stupid. When are the other countries are going to pay the tariffs for our much-needed grid upxes? Or is the inept/corrupt regime just going to keep allowing energy companies to shut down energy delivery (blackouts) when Mother Nature inevitably does her thing? It's all just so stupid. And expensive.
@davidcole2337
It is going up because it can. Supply and Demand. If you don't have Competition Pricing can go up for no reason other than just for Profit.
@alanmcrae8594
Excellent reporting that clearly shows what is going on: maintaining ageing infrastructure + repairing it after extreme weather events + effects of tariffs + Covid shutdown supply shock + Ukraine war grid restoration + new data centers.
As far as new data centers, definitely charge them a higher rate for electricity & water plus an AI usage tax so that companies & individuals who use AI are paying the true cost for providing it. Ordinary citizens who want nothing to do with AI shouldn't be bearing the cost of providing it to those who want it.
@henrythegreatamerican8136
All the money we paid for decades should have went to building up our energy infrastructure. Instead, it went into the pockets of executives and "shareholders."
And who do you think owns the materials needed to build out our infrastructure? Yea, the same shareholders.
@JakeLancaster-r5s
What an absolutely horrendous video. It is beyond me how it's completely ignored so many of these grids are for profit enterprises that are bringing in record profits. The issue is Capitalism. Not even merely data centers or infrastructure expansion. It's the damn profit motive that's getting a sext handful of people incredibly rich. The only solution to this is to make power grids publicly owned. And even then, the lack of nationalization of the products needed to purchase for an expansion of the grid is problematic.
This issue is rich men getting more rich, while completely destroying access to a vital piece of infrastructure.
@IraqwarwasaLie
If a data center is built in your community, the local ‘business-friendly’ politicians you elected already signed NDA’s to ensure you are not aware that your energy bill will be subsidizing its operation for years to come.
@BonsaiBlacksmith
You all are victims of Investor Owned Utilities paying these horrible prices. Try Cooperatives, 4800 of us in the USA. I am forming one now for my County. To hell with lining investors pockets for a PUBLIC utility.
@brianwiles3887
Our energy bills are going up because the Companies that own the power plants are price gouging their customers. plain and simple. Same thing with food, clothing, and housing. Ask yourself why does your utility bills keep going up when you have the same meter on your property, the same power lines/infrastructure that's been there since before your great grandparents were born? They're not building power plants left and right so why the price hike? That house down the road from you that sold for $89,000 ten years ago, but just went up for sale for $289,000...it's the same house it was 10 years ago. It's because the 1% are doing everything they can to ensure the other 99% stay broke and struggling for everything needed for basic survival. Forget saving for retirement, or investing in precious metals when most people are barely able to live slightly better than paycheck to paycheck. How much worse does it have to get before we as a society start stringing up politicians in the public square?
@johnhill3376
Those data centers are going to generate tons of profits for the tech industry; meanwhile most Americans are apprehensive about AI (putting it generously). And oh, the US is a net exporter of oil, so the fossil fuel industry is doing pretty well these days. Same old story; big corporations rake in profits, profits that are subsidized by taxpayers. Ridiculous.
@scruples671
The US doesn't source or build anything anymore. That is why prices have gone up. So how did outsourcing our manufacturing base save money? It didn't. It is costing us astronomically more to maintain our infrastructure. Corporations don't want to save money they want to make more money. What a disgusting system.
@JoshuaCollins
Your electric bills are going up because your legislators and your utilities passing the cost of data centers on to you.
It's not the data centers, it's the utilities and your legislators. Read that again
@Billskdm
This was a terrible explanation. It didn’t cover things that are more nuanced. Policy changes that have forced electric companies to keep old plants that were to be closed is a huge cost, especially since coal and natural gas aren’t as competitive long term.
@UncommonSense1776
Prices are going up because we are being forced to use more electricity (i.e., California no longer allows gas appliances in new construction) and because we are relying on more expensive, less reliable sources. The cost of power has been going up before the current Trump administration.
Georgia just put two new nuclear reactors online and has a very diverse grid.
@alainrouleau
As a Canadian, it's a good thing Americans are not paying the tariffs and don't need anything from Canada. You Americans have so much money now, LOL
More seriously, I did a comparison between Maryland and Quebec. The bill shown was $144.03 for 633 kWh, which works out to about $0.23 USD/kWh. Where I live in Montreal, residential electricity averages about $0.05–$0.06 USD/kWh (after converting from CAD). At that rate, 633 kWh would cost roughly $35 plus fees for a total of $42, not $144.
Quite the difference!
@viyusavery248
Crazy that Americans use 600kw of energy in a month
I can do 100kw or less
@gamingtonight1526
Prices will rise because American's voted for an anti-climate change President, so he's stopping all the CHEAP solar panels and wind farms, and going for "drill drill drill", meaning oil, coal and fracking, all EXPENSIVE fossil fuels! A by-product of this is food increases as climate change affected farms and ranches!
@judgedreadz-b1u
I was just informed yesterday my bill would be $15 more ,after they berated me about how much power i had used during some freezing days last month ,that i would not normally use . Normally my contract comes in december ,but this december was warm ,they waited for the cold to justify the increase .
@cvillefarmer
Who would have thought reducing our power supply by 20% from shutting down coal power plants would raise rates when these new huge power hungry customers (data centers) come on the grid. Shutting down coal was fine when everything was getting more efficient and total power usage was steady or slightly reducing from the peak in the early 2000s. But data centers have started using more energy than the grid has capacity for. Solar and Wind dont produce enough power and new capacity cannot be added fast enough. We are still shooting ourselves in the foot by continuing to shut down coal plants. Coal may be dirty, but its cheap. Also solar causes less efficient peaker plants to be required cuz the solar power supply starts to go down during peak demand (4-8pm). Nuclear is the best answer as it can ramp up and down quickly but it is expensive to build and would take a decade to build cuz we cannot build anything in the US anymore without huge cost overruns and delays.
@DavidButler-b9m
Survival favors the prepared. Get off grid. Get self sufficient. Focus on needs more and less on wants. Live frugally, garden, and preserve food. Drill a well, dig a cistern, catch rainwater. Ultimately you and you alone are responsible for your own well being. Quit expecting others to take care of you and take care of yourself. At the end of the day no one is coming to save you.
@MonteCristoKaramazov
Electricity cost this year and last has been the worse I’ve seen in my lifetime. I don’t know if that’s because of the tariffs, but i do know, tariffs are not driving the price down.

They need to lean the extra cost of utilities including water to the data centers and not consumers. Make building a data center a plus for communities instead of nobody wanting them now. Data centers don't like that then don't build it.
@dennisenright9347
How does the demand from data centers compare to residential use? And how much of an increase in residential use will there be from switching to an electric car, or replacing a natual gas furnace with electric heat?

One of the biggest problems with US power supplies is that they still use the less efficient 110V supply, which causes greater losses in the wiring than 240V, which is used in most of the world.
@Thomas-y5m
I live in Michigan. Last year, there was an ice storm. The consumer was stuck with a 90 million bill, fun stuff. So, if the insurance company increases the rate for insurance, the utility companies will pass this on to the customers.

@MyGoogleYoutube
Holy cow — power measured over time is kilowatt-hours (kWh). The number of times you said it incorrectly when it was literally printed on screen was pretty stunning.
I know it sounds like a small detail, but it matters. Understanding kWh is fundamental to understanding your power bill, and when someone in a reporting role gets it wrong, it adds to the public confusion rather than helping.
@wsurfer2147
Last year i used 288kw in December, it cost $80. This year I used 240kw. It cost $92. SCE changed the rate structure in December so that the more you use the cheaper the rate which caters to large companies. We are paying for data centers' energy use !
@Deep_Sorcery
I don't mind paying a little more because since they upxed the grid in my state, it's much more reliable. We don't lose power as often or for as long.
@krissrock
Data centets should definitely pay more! They use that power to make profits! Consumers shouldn't have to split that bill if the DC's don't share their profits!

@Hans-gb4mv
Small correction, your consumption and the price is set per kilowatt/hour not per kilowatt. It's like saying you're driving on the road and doing 50 miles.
And for all Americans, I wish I had California's prices, would make my bills a lot cheaper ...
@oldowl33
Data Centers get more water and more electricity, because of sweet backroom deals corporations get big tax breaks. Officials get their kickback and ultimately we the people are forced to pay the bills of a freeeloading company. The modus operandi is recognized.

Foul! USA transformers are NOT designed for 50Hz. In addition, grid PRIMARY and SECONDARY voltages may not be the same as in common use in the US.
