I recommend you to go to a small city in China, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, where there are magnificent Huangshan scenery, Huizhou ancient buildings with white walls and gray tiles, and local specialties are very beautiful. I recommend China to go in November and autumn, which is really perfect.

For now I'll keep this short...when I retired at 64 I moved to China and lived there for nearly 10 years....Great expereinces.
@LakotaCat
Congrats. I want to go live there. In Chengdu specifically. For a month so I can explore the longest bike path in the world, the amazing tianfu parkway. To test it out. And if I really love it the way I think I'm going to then I am going to see if I can move there. I can see retiring, riding my bicycle in China, living happily riding my bike and never having any worry about a freaking car again.

@Cccccccaleb
@denisezink386 I'm equally curious: unless they marry a Chinese person, it's almost impossible for them to obtain permanent residency, so how do they manage to stay in China for an extended period, let alone retire there?

I'm Chinese and I live in New York with my family. The United States and China are two very great countries, and if the two countries cooperate deeply, they can really solve many problems. I really hate it when politicians sow discord between the two countries for their own vote interests. Thank you for your video, which has enabled the people of the two countries to feel each other's kindness.

In Theory you are Correct , in Reality the Leadership in Many many countries is just downright Evil, run by leaders and Politicians who just don’t care about anything at all and are so utterly incompetent at everything that they could not get any other kind of job. The Proof is obvious, just look at the world, it never been so bad not for a thousand years.
@NewportRI65

Some tips, 1) It is a good idea to have some yougurt during or after a spicy meal. It reliefs the hottness quickly. 2) I actually recommend eSIM over VPN. With an eSim, it is much less expensive, stable and all foreign Apps work. 3) In case you experience some health issues, such as catching a cold, you can easily visit local pharmacies with a big green scrossing sign. They have over the counter medicines which are easy to buy. 4) In any case, if you need some help, feel free to ask around, especially policemen, young students, or any officials.

First and foremost, thank you for sharing this video and creating a platform for open conversation.
As a Chinese Singaporean, I’d like to recount my pilgrimage to Guangzhou, China, in 2009/2010 to reconnect with my ancestral roots. At the time, security cameras were far less prent—both in cities and rural areas—so I often relied on the guidance of strangers. What struck me most was the overwhelming kindness I encountered. Locals not only offered directions but frequently went out of their way to walk me to destinations, and some even invited me into their homes for meals. Throughout my journey, I never once felt unsafe or unwelcome.
I share this not to focus on my own experience, but to challenge the narrative that China’s streets are inherently “unsafe.” Such portrayals, I believe, are often exaggerated, biased, and disconnected from the reality I witnessed.
Chinese culture is deeply influenced by Confucian values, embodied in the saying: “有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎” (“Is it not a joy to welcome friends from afar?”). This spirit of hospitality resonated in every interaction I had.
As a fellow descendant of Chinese heritage, I echo this sentiment wholeheartedly: Welcome to China! May your travels be safe, enriching, and filled with the same warmth I was fortunate to experience.

Ashley's laughter is infectious!
Menu without a picture, just point at the dishes that your fellow patrons are eating in the same restaurant (Well accepted, when people see you as a foreigner. Approach younger folks for translation)
Use A Map, which is better than Google Maps and is accurate and versatile. It can even alx you to the closure of some attractions to avoid disappointment
Dian ping (Chinese version of Yelp) can be set in English in the settings. But the articles that are written by individuals could be a challenge

One thing that makes China very powerful in the world is that compared with any other country in the world, the products and services you get at the same price are on another level, including industrial products, food, rent, fresh food everywhere in supermarkets, and cheap infrastructure. This is very friendly to those who like economical travel. In addition, China is a large place, and you can't go around it all. Each region has different characteristics, especially away from the first and second tier cities. The cost of fresh food and rent is incredible, and the quality is still very good. However, China's smoking situation is indeed a challenge for foreigners. China has currently opened a visa-free policy to many countries in the world, and we welcome more people to travel to China.
@garychin5321
One thing that is also popular in the West; that has yet to catch on, is Self-catering; If your Diet is very particular,...it would be a very convenient option to go self-catering...since; basic ingredients in China is very available & affordable, Just need the Tools for Cooking....Too much Restaurants & Street Food can be overwhelming; sometimes U just want Good Home Cooking...
