Smart. Very very smart. Keeping people employed, giving people the opportunity to taste their food who otherwise wouldn't, creating a new client base and staying relevant.
Well done.
@Stevesmusictravel
No wonder China is doing better than America. They know how to do. Business America is just greedy.
@hinatamercury
its additional competition to already struggling street vendors
@remix-yy1hs
@hinatamercury they are not the the same prices i think
@timothychung4811
It is a win-win in every aspects.
@user-nt4sl5hp5m
In America, they would rather throw away the food and let you starve to death than give it you for free or sell for cheap.
@dunzhen
True, the amount of food we throw out in America daily is pretty mind boggling. This country is the GodKing of Waste
@piaohei5984
This sentence appears almost verbatim in a former Chinese textbook, describing the Great Depression.
@MissVivianvv
Exactly. Here only perfect looking product will be put on shelf; peeled, chopped, washed, and packaged in plastic. Or people will rather buy frozen veggies than natural but imperfect looking food! People complain about fresh produce are expensive but look how much go into landfills! What a society
@Truck-kun_01
Yep because in America people throw around lawsuits just as much as they throw food.
@TheDagon12
It’s a different legal system- the burden of proof is much higher to even BRING a lawsuit- so a simple case of food poisoning wouldn’t work- you’d have to go to the hospital and a doctor would have to diagnose you and also state which meal you most likely got your food poisoning from
@Zerpentsa6598
@TheDagon12 Not the reason. That's an excuse. Food banks and soup kitchens give out perishable food as well. Nothing to stop people suing for food poisoning, but it hasn't stopped them helping others. There is no reason why food expiring on the day should poison people. The real reason is they know some people will wait for handouts even when they can buy. That will hurt sales.
@SwaggMessiah69
@Zerpentsa6598 No it's straight up just laws. I did some work in a big soup kitchen that get's ALL it's food from groceries, restaurants, donations, farms, etc.
Every ingredient given needs to be thoroughly inspected, there are strict guidelines on acceptable quality, and pretty much EVERYTHING is it's base form, meaning no pre-cooked or handled food. We got chicken wings from a restaurant that was raw and fully sealed in original packaging that was about to expire for example. If those chickens were already cooked, we could not use them.
No clue why, but those standards and guidelines are for the whole state, and it exists due to case by case basis.
@Master_Rich_gamer
@SwaggMessiah69 there are no federal laws supporting what you said. Most states also dont have laws supporting what you said. In the 90s, a federal act protected food donors from being liable for harm from expired products.
@ViperVizier
The way China adapts is just insane. I think in my country, luxury hotels will be caught dead selling at the roadside
@MalevolentCherry
It’s this very adaptation that not only we the Han people but all the other ethnic groups in China have survived warring with one another for centuries. It’s also how China grew into this giant it is today, it went from a nation who just opened its doors to technological advancements to a world power rivaling those who came before it in less than a century. It took America over a century to surpass Europe in industrial might despite having none of the Europeans invading their lands and doing unfair deals.
@maureenDavid-k3n
they would probably throw that food away before give it away
@patricku9
because crime on the streets in most world cities makes it impossible.
@celiahou3298
It the resilience that kept our culture alive for five thousand years.
@NA-yb9sj
Yes the way China adapts is insane. That's why the phrase "made in China" carries a certain reputation. Go there and experience it yourself, not as "yes man" tourist but live there for a few decades. You'll understand why they all want to leave at the first chance they get.
@Esternos2891
Eh. For like a regular hotel sure, but I can't picture the type of people who go to high end hotels would be caught dead doing thism oh sure I don't doubt they would like to try normal food, but I also can't picture them accepting anything less than a gold encrusted lobster marinated in caviar juice for a week (hyperbole, but you get it)
@supportlid
Cause they don't have to do it C is a dictatorship. The economy Sucks there
@雨-Raining
@supportlid Same will happen to the US soon, the texas politician drama is just comedic for a "first world country"
@mabellemichelle
@supportlid the economy sucks here too and we're basically a dictatoship as well so lMao. you wanna discuss how the price of beef is now $20/lb???
@supportlid
@mabellemichelle we have it better here i can tell you that right now i have friends whom i work with that are from venezula im telling you now be grateful for what we have it could be worse & idk where you shop for beef but for me it ain't 20$ a pound
@manainnit
@supportlid are you comparing Venezuela to one of the most powerful and influential countries in the world? did you go to school?
@dlboo9915
@manainnit bro you mean how the “president” has politically prosecuted and killed who oppose his communist policies and ideologies cause the people I’ve meet from Venezuela are lazy and always asking for handouts from the government even tho they are rich in petroleum
@MalevolentCherry
@supportlid it’s not “could be worse” it’s gonna get worse. You clearly aren’t the brightest if you don’t see what Trump is up too, the constitution shields us but the shield is cracking and people like you stay complacent as our rights are violated under our very eyes. It’s like a one to one of what happened in Star wars with palpatine, America is growing complacent and corrupt much like the republic in Star Wars thus allowing people like Trump to rise to power.
@iamthelegendripper8900
I think it's a win-win for both the hotel and the common people.. a lot of food is wasted every day in five star and high-end hotels so it's better than the hotel is not throwing it away and giving it for lesser profit .. all the hotels in the world should start doing it
@alexmcdurmon8274
This kind of makes sense since hotels are just making use of their huge commercial kitchens and existing staff to open up another revenue stream during a downturn.
@kristiankho
This was how Dim Sum houses started. Chinese restaurants who usually serve high end meals at night open up for the poor with cheaper dim sum meals to go during the day.
@Nghiahaidon
In some Asian countries, food is extremely cheap, their average income may be low but it ensures that they can eat their fill at the end of the day. Not to mention many places give out free food (mostly leftovers from restaurants) They can live an extremely long time without a job while Western countries will be homeless after 3 months of unemployment
@hinatamercury
as an Asian, I think you are glorifying some of these Asian countries too much
@spinspinbaby1531
If you buy using dollar it might sounds cheap to you but if you using their currency it might not that cheap
@phoenixwulf6010
that is a myth.. People in China still starve. Also most of SEA place while some restaurant does give leftover food.. most just doesn't.
@mathewadams8499
@phoenixwulf6010 every country has people starving not just China so what are you implying huh?
@phoenixwulf6010
@mathewadams8499 why defending China? I only want to imply it isn't all sunshine there. It is too enclosed that people often are misled, I have a relatives there. Every tourist spot or anywhere foreigner can access would look like ideal place to live. Any other that rarely accessed... will have problems as much as USA or any other country would.
@north-sea-thinkmore
@phoenixwulf6010 Then you can try to look for some of these lesser-known places.
Every Chinese citizen inherits residential land and farmland through their family. Even in the worst-case scenario, people can always return home to farm and live on basic government assistance. This still ensures that no one will go hungry.
@Geez555
I'm Asian and untouched left over food is thrown away. Employees cannot even eat it. They can get fired for eating or taking home clean left overs. Owners rather have them wasted than given for free.
@ItsAvertic
This is how it should be, businesses in the US would rather throw it in the garbage than sell it for a lower price
@karinafanatic
That’s the major difference between capitalist society and socialist society!
@STke-s8b
Americans will buy it when the price has dropped...
It's more like a matter of culture, ethics, and not greedy
No matter your reason, you always buy discounted prices even though it is possible that food that has been discounted before expiration can be bought by poor people...
The government should teach this in schools
@JY-yw8zs
Yes they also get paid 2/3 less than you. I like how foreigners especially Americans who never grew up in China just spews how well China is. You should go live there then
@arbaazshaw8123
@JY-yw8zs First of all, I'm Libyan, not American. Second of all, I stayed in China for 4 months, and I know there's a lot of disparity in standards of living especially between rural and urban areas. That's not the fault of the Chinese. It's a huge country with over a billion that has gone through untold suffering in the last century and clawed themselves back up from worse than nothing. I'm not going to judge them by the standards of the colonial Europeans who raped half the world to develop their industrial base and economies, instead judge China by their own merit and their own structural context, and there's a lot to admire there
@Cold_Shadow7
The fact that they just don't throw the food out speaks volumes
@LuminousKugelblitz
Americans : " Oh no dirty ***s are lowering their cost instead of throwing things away "
@4evertrue830
Oh no, why are they not insisting on tips like we do in America?
@PhạLong-d2w
@4evertrue830 there’s no need,they pay their employees better than US
@CLADESQUE
Idk, lots of Chinese leave to US, not many americans move to China.
@ashishpokhrel7022
@CLADESQUE that's because of shortage of skilled manpower in usa
@CLADESQUE
@ashishpokhrel7022 But why would they want to leave China? I think it’s because living in China sucks, and USA is ten times better.
@sgsan705
Or it's.. Oh no!! they'll get sued for giving away food
@codycarroll5866
Americans: Oh no China is doing Capitalism better than the US.
@nadanalia3000
What I love about the Chinese is that they are humble and always able to adapt. They never think they are “too good” to get their hands dirty to survive
@MalevolentCherry
That’s why China has grown this fast, what took America over a century to accomplish, China did it in less than 70 years. Then there is the fact that China could very well become a first world nation by now, but it refuses because the government wishes to industrialize further.(and it would seem the goal is AI and robotics, China already has AI kiosks everywhere and they actually work well the last time I went to Shanghai.)
@GavinGreenwich
@MalevolentCherry The sheer population makes it easy. The average Chinese person works like ten hours more a week than Americans.
Look at how stagnant the European economy is(hint- it is because they work even less than Americans do)
@thisnthat7760
Building a civilization over 5 thousand years , I'm sure they did it with humble approach , thinking into consideration people of various tribes and ethnicities across various social background, the last time I read about Chinese history I was made aware that there will be uprisings and the throne and Dynasty changed hands when the ruling class became too snobbish
@Zerpentsa6598
As long as China remains a classless society, such activities will not incur social etiquette censure and hotels and people do not mind selling and buying "leftovers". In the west, a posh hotel seen doing this might be spurned by "high class" diners, and people buying "cheap" food will be seen as common.
@Darkmatter321
The Chinese are incredibly resilient and resourceful people. They deserve every bit of success they have. Love and respect from Iran
@Boo-ib7hg
American chains throw away the food instead of giving them to the poor because a poor guy eating their food would "Lower their brand value" btw
@MalevolentCherry
That’s the issue with our capitalist society, American companies have long lost their compassion and humanity for the sake of profits. The country promotes itself as a place where the government doesn’t care how you make money as long as the public doesn’t find out about your dirtier methods and you pay the taxes you owe.
@chiqa2448
@MalevolentCherry I mean these stalls are capitalist too, they're trying to generate value from a market when their usual diners do not go to the hotel anymore.
@AllenHYoung
Not to mention all the greedy lawyers looking for a payout. All it takes is 1 homeless person to get “sick” eating the food for a big payout
@Aryvrt
For us in the East prosperity of all is above individual ambitions because for all of us caring for others is the real goal of life

Used to be the same here in Germany, then we got money people in charge and let that virus of neoliberalism ran rampant... that and the damage Merkel did to the country.
@arkaem7549
Do people not realise that this isn't leftover food? this is cheap fast food that the hotel has to sell to be able to make enough money to be able to stay open, as not enough people can afford to go to the nice hotels to stay. It clearly says this in the video.
@Iwudiei
In America working at the Dump was impeccable and no animal starved within miles of her

@abhayprabhu8951
Genuinely brilliant. The hotels know why people pay to eat inside, and what people will pay for a to go order!
@voidbornefeline
I wish people could afford food in America my family can't afford food and to pay the bills on time so things get shut off a lot I would love to be able to just go outside and get some food like that
@RoyK-f3n
I survive with just 70usd a month(food ,rent, mobile data and transport) in Asia with 3k gdp/capita. the food is just extremely cheap and pretty tasty.
@FukutenshiYoufan
That's really cheap for a month. Where do you live?
The average Regional Minimum Wage in my place is around 140 USD per month. I am from Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
@MalevolentCherry
People say your salary is lower than an average American in China, but everything else there is lower in price. Maybe not housing since when the government decided to give a little freedom to the housing market, it imploded with people driving prices up sky high to try and strike it rich. A mistake both China and America made, deliberately as well, China did this in order to be more progressive and America removed rent cap so the president can boost their own rep.
@Eldr1tchGl1tch
I think selling leftovers at lower prices at certain hours and giving them for free to certain walks of life is an amazing way for a community and a business to thrive.
Minimal food waste, and struggling people are fed.
@ThermonuclearPengu
In our city, there are literally buffets for 16 yuan, maybe even less if you know the owner.

10 dollar a day in India is a luxury meal. That's basically 800+ Rupee which is a lot, a fried rice costs average of 120rs
@nah-th3ve
The economy isn’t really slow, with purchasing power parity it’s actually above average per capita. It’s just that people don’t go to fine dining that much which ups the price
@supagirusupagiru9932
This show China adaptability, How fast and flexible China is to every condition and I think it’s a key to her survival ability
@ZaBrowski
On the contrary, I've seen a video on how this actually diminishes the gains of the normal street food markets and sellers, as now the large conglomerate hotels are now also trying to corner this part of the food market.
@istiqueahmed3919
in university campus it is even more cheap. A full course of meal can go by 10快, it is both healthy, clean, fresh, and full of energy to go with rushing university study pressure.
@alberte6109

"oh we're being economically isolated? Time to adapt so people can still live a good life" vs "ahh a glitch fudged the numbers, better lay off 100k people from our company."
@frankmillersincity1
I think this ingenious and pretty win win for hard times. Hard to fault this but emphasize how a lot of issues are solved by people, not gov'ts.
@Chowder2149
What's the average price and average pay for workers in China? It sounds cheap in USA dollars but is it for an average Chinese citizen?
@Nghiahaidon
Still cheap, the average Chinese can earn $30 a day. If they are poor with an income of $5-10, they still have too many choices, even food is free in many places
@wdgosling
you can eat out every day and pay rent with the average salary, and still have money left for savings. you can't say the same if you live in the US
@DemonZest
food is cheap, everything else (House, Education, Car) is not.
@wdgosling
@DemonZest house? it depends on the city. In Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, houses are expensive, but salaries are also higher. Rent is fairly cheap.
Education? Only if you resort to private tutors or enroll your children in rich people hobbies
Car? Chinese brand electric cars can be really cheap (see Wulin Hongguang, which is around $5k). It gets expensive if you choose foreign car brands

I mean to be honest that would be much better than just letting the food rot then throwing it away once it's rotten.
Instead of other countries literally having storage areas for waste disposal where they throw away perfectly good food, wait for it to spoil just so they can throw it away. Just because it didn't sell.
@evi-vw
I admire the cheap good looking food. McDonalds in the USA where I live is $15 for a person. That's supposed to be "cheap." but yeah lol.
@angelawinters5843
It's a win-win-win. I think there's more than one hotel that sells their left-over buffet food for cheap. It reduces food waste (environment), subsidize the hotel a little (hotel) and people can eat for cheap (the people).
