how can anyone argue these ships to be failure? have you ever tried to make $20B for selling something that doesnt work? thats gotta be world class, leading edge sales and marketing skills.

Just last week the person sitting in the White House announced a new class of battleships named after himself, for which he said he would act as an advisor to make sure everything was done right. The first ship should go active in less than three years, equipped with lasers and railguns (which the US gave up researching). 100 ships should be built.

Small ships can do certain jobs… the problem was operational creep. They wanted them to do more and more and more.. so they ended up being rubbish at everything… they have now cancelled the frigate program too I think for similar reasons. Not mention the issues with the aluminium hulls etc

Being the government, the Navy Program manager for the LCS boondoggle was put in charge of the Constellation boondoggle which as of 11/25 has now been cancelled after spending 2 Billion on the program. The Constellation program showed they never learned anything for ALL the failed Navy ship programs.

You know how people always talk about other countries having corruption? No one ever accuses the americans of that. Even though they can spend infinite amounts of money on multiple completely failed military projects then just go 'whoopsie! How could we have known'.
This video even points out that a paper was written in 2001 pointing out all the issues. So they could be predicted. And they WERE predicted. But the US military leaders just covered their ears. On purpose.
That money got spent. The military industrial complex received that money. And it bought nothing.

I won't argue the corruption. Any big government is corrupt no matter what flag is up on the pole.
The Navy lost its way when the USSR dissolved, didn't really have a near peer anymore, China was still just thought of making crappy disposable stuff in Wal-Mart. The brass just talked themselves into being the "innovators of the new Navy" apparently they all watched the movie down periscope. Destroyers stealthed to appear as a fishing trawler? All the LCS missions can be done by aircraft from carriers, arleigh burke DDGs and the amphibious ships, and a second gen or redesigned Perry class frigate which were still in service. It's all about their egos and legacy desires that lead us down this path. Dumb idea, period.

excuse me, I'm not american so maybe I don't get everything but ... why not giving some LCS to the coast guards ? they are awfully ill suited for the navy while fast and lightly armed ships with helicopters made to be used in littoral zone kinda seem the good ship/asset for Coast Guards missions, especialy with fast drug cartels boats loaded with drugs or for rescue/relief missions
if some one can explain it to me, I would love to know :)

It make zero sense to give such a maintenance nightmare, poorly designed ship to the coastguard, who relied on fast, reliable speedboats to pursue smugglers, they are a security force, not a combat force. Best just scrap them.

把这种保养起来堪称噩梦、设计又糟糕透顶的舰艇交给海岸警卫队，完全没有道理。
海岸警卫队向来依靠高速可靠的快艇追捕走私者，他们是一支执法力量，而非作战部队。最好还是把这些舰艇直接报废比较好。

Fun fact: as of 11/25/25, the USN cancelled the Constellation-class frigate. As a US soldier, I'm quite ashamed of what our shipbuilding has become. Say what you will about China, China is building "good enough" ships, while the US is fucking up and only wanting "perfect" ships. 12 "good enough" destroyers are better than 4 "perfect" destroyers.

Our military procurement has gotten so insanely corrupt and inefficient. The new ships stall on their maiden voyages, fifth Gen fighters are paper tigers that require so much maintenance time they'd all be grounded for repairs after a month of any conflict. We're lucky the tech we made in the 70s and 80s is so good and reliable because those are still the work horses of our military.

维护时间长得离谱，真打起仗来，用不了一个月就得全部因为缺零件修不了而停在地面上。

It’s so funny how we used to say “made in China” meant bad quality.. and now the rest of the world knows that “made in America” means bad quality.. even our military can’t build reliable shit anymore.. so sad..

I am gonna wonder how many floating hulls are in the mothball fleets that coulda been repurposed and used IF and when they might be useful again. Think kinda like the battleships of wwii that were used in Vietnam and Korea and Panama and oh yeah Iraq. Seems like a solid design that functions as needed.

I worked on them back in the early 2010's. It was 3-5 year turn around for each boat as it was constantly getting changes handed down, even on things that were already completed. "It's already completed...okay let's go back and change this and that...oh and that over there as well."

我在 2010 年左右的时候参与过这些项目。当时每艘船的建造工期都要拖上 3 到 5 年
因为设计方案总是接二连三的变更，哪怕是已经完工的部分也难逃改动的命运。
就是那种感觉：哎，这部分不是已经做完了吗？行吧，那我们还是得回去把这儿改改、那儿动动……哦对，还有那边那个也得一起改了。
