I think as I can see from the video that the knife holder was going to stab the women if police didn't use lethal weapon
@Connetification
Stab the woman or not. He took someone as hostage. Justified.
@raymondwong2159
@Connetification a hostage situation doesnt always require shooting, in this case they had absolutely no choice.
@clutchmaticxb
@Connetification she became a hostage because she refused to let go her bag. she could have been shot as well as she was in the line of fire. Best action in this situation is to let your belongings go
@ceon_yan0901
@clutchmaticxb It is a crossbody bag. She had no time to let go of the bag in such short period of time. It happened in the blx of an eye and she had no time to react. Also you can see that the woman is not holding her bag at all, her hands was not holding anything, it was because the man pulled her bag and it seems stuck around her neck, so she cannot let go of it. But I appreciate your advice, if it happen to us in the future and we have time to react, better save our lives than our property. Property can be bought again but our lives cannot.
@never4ever386)
@Connetification You don’t just shoot someone because they hold a hostage. This trigger happy American mentality is what’s wrong with the world. But the policewomen shooting him as he was about to stab the lady was definitely justified
@koushinGLF
@never4ever386 Let's see if you can say that again once you are the hostage.
@SquidGameFan_2972
It was probably just centimetres from her neck, police acted in the last second, if not, I think she would have died
@dannywong5611
HK Police did an outstanding job!
@rotikacangmerah
I hope the lady gets treatment for trauma too
@DavidFoo-kh4ri
The police "difficult but decisive decision" probably saved many lives
@reckless110
The police did the right thing. There's no point in sparing these criminals who seek to destroy innocent lives.
@teenytinyT
No other police force I know of can respond to calls for help that fast (I mean arriving at the crime site), before any members of the public get hurt. Also surprised at how fast their response to shoot was considering the knife looked to be only 30-50cm away from the lady. Very professional indeed
@hlamp
Let alone shooting, I think it’s very rare that they unholster guns compared to other places, so they were VERY decisive.
@BITStudioCode
reasonable lethal force
@masutabeshow
The officer did the right thing.
@CommanderSlayers
Mind you unlike American police, officers in Asia never usually pulls out a gun on a suspect even if things are going south and even then they would just point their gun only. Firing is only seen as a last resort should the situation be VERY dire which is crazy to see.
@jevonoryvil3012
The guy must be going through some tough times, but he crossed a line when he dragged an innocent into the mess, all chances and sympathies are deservedly out the window at that point.
@bunbun4048
This happens daily in the US. Lol
@JamesSpazer
The police just saved millions of tax payers money by getting rid of that guy.
@Stigmaru
There was a homeless guy carrying a huge machete in DTLA and I called the cops. They never came. But hey we now care more about pulling people out of their homes and cars to check if they are citizens.
@Seramics
Amazing police job, lightning fast n decisive to save an innocent life.
@Shpicys
If this was in the US, there would be protest on why the man was a "victim" and should not have been shot.
@jakeistired
lots of knife incidents in asia recently, very sad
@Rishabh-Dev
Direct killed him? Why no use of tazer gun first?
@KCRC_YELLOW_HEAD
They dont have tazers
@extremel.z.s3140
Even if they had tazers, it might not work as some people got higher endurance than others
@azul1964
Police did a correct decision. He reacted to the guys actions. However if the police had shot earlier, when the guy is closing the girl, the police could have used non lethal shot
@SamFishingChannel
I don’t understand why police are sometimes blamed when they use lethal force against people who pose a real and immediate danger. If police don’t act, innocent people can be seriously harmed or killed. That puts officers in an impossible position: if they don’t intervene decisively, they’re blamed for failing to protect the public; if they do, they’re blamed for using force. This kind of scrutiny can make it harder for police to act quickly in critical situations. At the same time, it can send the message that there are few consequences for serious wrongdoing, which may embolden criminals—especially those with power or influence who often seem to evade accountability. It’s deeply frustrating and reflects how broken and unfair the system can feel.
@MachaFish
See, in this case, this was absolutely justified. A sad situation, yes.
But clearly lethal force was necessary in order to save the life of the woman, who was clearly an innocent victim.
I live in the United States. A few years ago, a local police officer shot an unarmed man in the back.
Huge difference.
I don't think I would feel nearly as scared walking the streets of Hong Kong, as I would walking outside of my apartment right now.
That poor woman must be traumatized. I hope she is able to recover and move on from this awful incident. I hope her life is more peaceful in the future.
@kindface
The police did the right thing.
Nothing more need be said.
@trafficgod8882
I fully support what the police did. I read with disbelief that there are negative comments about the police here. I wonder what would people who posted these negative comments about the police say if the hostage was one of their loved ones. Well done Hong Kong Police, the officers involved acted with bravery, dedication and precision. In contrary to giving the police negative comments, I would give them a medal.
@TrainDaBestJP
this is the real use of a weapon. Not like how ICE did it. Nice job, hope that woman stays safe.
@wh3596
I'm surprised it too so long. In North America (Canada and especially the US) the police will shoot the "Actor" within seconds. Even if the "Actor" is welding a stapler with no one around him.
@trevornorman7563
have always found the Chinese police friendly and helpful, i am glad they also are responsive in the right way when they need to be to save a life. from the uk, well done the police
@247_corn_master
wow!! well done HK police. if this happens in america, many more would be dead. they would gather much more police with automatic rifles, they will unleash hundreds of bullets far away. bloodbath
@gpcheng87
The police definitely did the right thing! Looks like the woman also did the right thing - stay calm and make yourself small to protect your vital organs and not get in the way of the police. Hope she recovers mentally
@your_boyfriend272
To all disagree that the police shoot him, let me put you in the victim situation where the knife wielding guy going to stab you once he sees you and you can't do anything because you can't do anything and no one going to save you from all of those people around you because they don't want to get killed alongside with you. Now you know why the police shoot the criminal instead saving them, their first rule save the victim 2nd rule disarm the suspeck if they see resistance they can use force to stop the suspect in an instant that's what my grand father rules when he was active police chief before.
