What does it imply that Trump stressing the US needs Greenland "for defense," claiming Venezuela may not be the last country subject to US intervention?

Greenland would, in fact, be helpful for U.S. defense.
It has rare earth minerals Trump wants to keep out of the hands of the Russians and Chinese. He believes (on some imaginary basis) that Russia can just blow into Greenland and take it all, apparently before the U.S. and NATO could lift a finger to stop Russia. (Russia, who can barely snatch one village in Ukraine, while being based on Russian territory five miles away.) I don’t know what China’s capabilities to snatch Greenland are.
That’s it. That’s Trump’s argument for annexing Greenland. It’s mostly about the mineral resources, in the same way that “drug enforcement” in Venezuela is about getting oil.
There’s already a U.S. Air Force base in Greenland. American military presence in the Arctic and subarctic is nothing new. The last U.S. troops only left Iceland in 2006. (The U.S. Air Force built Keflavik Airport. I’ve stayed in a hotel up there that used to be an American Express bank at the airbase. Interesting hotel. Cold War vibes. You can walk into the old metal safe. It was next to my room.)

The US wanted Greenland as long ago as 1945, in part for the same reasons that Hitler wanted Norway. “We need it, and we don’t want you to have it, so we’re going to take it, and then we’re going to come up with a bunch of stories that we’re actually liberating you.” The US was certainly preferable to Hitler, but that rationale is exactly what Hitler said when he invaded Norway. “We need it, so get out. And we don’t want someone else to take it, so we’re going to take it.”
Either way, the United States, at least for right now (before Trump fucks everything up), is still very much a part of NATO. Denmark is not friendly to Russia or China, so I don’t know why there can’t be further agreement to just expand a small amount of US military presence in Greenland without the United States annexing the entire huge island. (I agree with John Bolton. This would be a catastrophe for the West and basically get the US labeled a “rogue nation.” The only bright side is that it would thoroughly discredit the Republican Party.)
Unfortunately, Trump, who is a known rapist, has a rapist’s mentality when it comes to foreign policy now.
As far as I can tell, his whole argument is “I want it, I need it, so you have to give it to me.” In other words, “if you don’t open your legs voluntarily, I’m going to have to open them for you.”
This is the thumbnail version of Donald Trump‘s entire character, going back decades. “Give it to me now, or I’ll rape you. If I don’t get it, I’m going to throw a childish temper tantrum. Then I’m going to have my way with you. I’m also going to lie about it and twist the truth and make myself look like a victim. YOU raped ME. And I’m going to say a bunch of outrageous things to distract from what I just did. Then I’m going to put my hand on the Bible and give a wedgie to the evangelicals and Catholics with my other hand, and they’re gonna scream with joy ‘Jayzus has returned.’”
That’s his Greenland policy.
“We don’t own it. But we need it. So you’re obligated to give it to us.”
It’s pretty much the American attitude of the 19th century toward Indians. “You live out there on that land. But I want it. So fuck off.”

I think we all know perfectly well that Trump wants Greenland’s untapped mineral wealth and possible offshore oil deposits.
The US already has bases on Greenland for defence and can build almost as many bases as it wants.
Trump’s attempts to take whatever he wants may have short and medium term benefits but in the long term it will not be good for the USA, with every other nation on the planet opposed to it in some form. The USA will be isolated like never before, with no real friends or allies.

I’m totally fascinated by the fact that the United States - which has never had a war on its mainland, has a defense budget almost equal to the rest of the world, has nuclear weapons, is on an unassailable continent protected by water and two much smaller friendly neighbors, has about 750 overseas military bases (about 748 more than any other country), can project its force via its 11 aircraft carriers, again more than the rest of the world combined - can claim that they *need* Greenland or Panama or some other place “for defense”. I’m sorry but that just is not correct.

It means that the US could go to war against the rest of NATO, and possibly other former allies. The alternative is to take out Colonel Bone Spurs and his hidden backers before the US destroys themselves.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed in the early hours of January 3 (U.S. Eastern Time) that American armed forces had carried out a large-scale military operation against Venezuela and captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.
This represents the practical application of the Monroe Doctrine combined with what could be called the “Trump Corollary,” as outlined in the latest U.S. strategy for Latin America, which asserts that the United States has the right to intervene—even militarily—throughout the Western Hemisphere.
The context for this application of the Monroe Doctrine and the Trump Corollary is the growing importance of China in Latin America and, in Venezuela’s specific case, of Russia.
One must also take into account the effects of the blockade, the attack on Venezuela, and the kidnapping of President Maduro on Cuba, which will now be further weakened as it can no longer rely on Venezuelan oil [On January 4, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the U.S. plans to continue the blockade of Venezuelan oil tankers it began in mid December].

Trump has stated that the abduction of President Maduro is potentially just the beginning of his actions in Latin America, indicating an increased willingness to use military force against other nations in the region .
All indications suggest that U.S. forces were assisted by a significant faction within Maduro’s own government in carrying out his detention.
According to Trump, an aim of the military action in Venezuela is to seize Venezuela’s oil reserves and oil infrastructure and transfer them to U.S. companies. This is blatant neocolonialism. Venezuelan sovereignty is being seriously threatened.
The United States clearly seeks to assert its hegemony over the entire Western Hemisphere. This includes North America, of course, but especially Latin America.
The United States will therefore attempt to enforce its interests across Latin America by ensuring access to natural resources and by installing, or facilitating the rise of, governments aligned with U.S. interests. The United States views international relations as a zero-sum game. Therefore, if China advances its interests in any given region, U.S. strategists interpret this as a direct loss for the United States. From Washington’s perspective, securing its interests in Latin America also means reducing the role and influence of China in the region.

Trump needing Greenland for defense?
Laughable - nobody wants to invade the USA. Russia doesn't need to. The place is already subjugated to them.
No, the USA is currently invading other countries on a whim.
Greenland and other countries because Trump wants them as new badges to pin on his flabby chest. For the adulation from magats.

Simply put, it implies that the United States will very soon invade Greenland and declare it annexed, much the same as Russia invaded Crimea and declared it annexed, and for the same sham reason.
Donald Trump has now learned that the United States military will obey him in small (by comparison) illegal actions, and that the rest of the government of the United States is incapable of stopping him.
Venezuela was testing the waters to see what he could get away with. Next time he’ll go bigger, and bigger, and bigger still, until he is stopped.

It implies Trump intends to invade Greenland and claim it for the United States. It also indicate that he has other countries in mind to overtake also. The US is going to war whether its citizens want to or not. We have elected, a power, hungry dictator Wanna be.

It implies Trump is an idiot. The US has access to Greenland and a base there with an agreement with Denmark. They have similar arrangements with many countries. They may be able to get away with what they have done in Venezuela because of the evidence of tampering in the last election. Forcibly trying to take Greenland away from Denmark is a totally different thing.
