Yes, we should be scared. It means that America is no longer maintaining even the pretense of being a country ruled by laws and part of the modern world community of nations. It makes it clear that the USA no longer give a shit about their relations to the rest of the world. And that the world needs to worry about whatever insane acts of violence Trump will pull next in his attempts to drag attention away from the Epstein files.
No, this couldn’t lead to a conflict, it already has. America has committed an act of war against another sovereign nation. The only reason the US isn’t under attack back is because Venezuela has a weak military that doesn’t stand a chance against the most overpowered military in the world. Trump is being a bully and has turned the USA into a thug state.
Historically, Germany was once a world power. When Hitler started shit with Poland, the world’s nations were reluctant to step in. But when it became clear that this only encouraged the crazy Nazis to commit more violence, the world’s militaries did step in and put Germany in its place. The USA have started to re-enact the history of Nazi Germany, and there’s a chance that re-enactment will continue to play out until someone or some ones forcefully end the Trump administration.

Just been watching latest Trump horror show on tv news UK. The casualty number was not yet in when I left it until later. Trump's oil intrests and Rubios personal issues with South American bigwigs he couldn't touch before joining trump's circus are obvious to the BBC journalist who had lived in Venezuela. These points were explained briefly in his report. I feel sorry for the military personnel who are tasked to carry out such outlandish, unnecessary and draconian attacks on a peaceful nation. However, many of the military at all levels are meatheads who see trump as their messiah, the fuckwits.

Yes. Trump has unilaterally and unconstitutionally used military force against a sovereign nation, and kidnapped its leader and his wife. That's terrifying.
Now begins a test the Republicans in Congress will almost certainly fail. If they don't want to be reduced to merely a rubber-stamp for a dictator, they must immediately and without preamble impeach and remove this criminal and his entire cabinet.
But sadly, I don't believe they will. Instead, they will retroactively approve this war crime, and continue pretending that everything's fine while the rest of the world turns on us in horror and shock.
And yes, this will likely expand into a larger conflict. I certainly hope it doesn't, but I'm also pretty cynical about it at this point.
From now on, this will be the litmus test for Republicans who want anyone else to take them seriously as anything but fascists and dictator supporters: Do you support unconstitutional military actions and the kidnapping of foreign heads of state from countries with whom we aren't at war?
If the answer is anything but an unequivocal “no,” then you aren't a patriot, a worthwhile human being, or someone whose opinions should be treated as more valuable than dog shit.

On the evening/morning of January 2-3, 2026, the United States conducted a series of strikes in Venezuela. President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were kidnapped and taken to New York aboard a U.S. warship. The blitz followed many weeks of internationally condemned targeting of alleged drug boats in the waters off the country’s coast; the claim, which is a longstanding one in various forms, is that Maduro has transformed Venezuela into a narco-state.
Say what you will about the legitimacy or competence of Maduro and his staff — in any case, the U.S. has acted unilaterally to topple the government of a sovereign nation.
And for far from the first time — the operation comes precisely on the 36th anniversary of the invasion of Panama which ended the rule of Noriega in 1990.
It is what Putin wishes he could’ve accomplished in Kiev.
I don’t think there’s much chance of immediate military conflict on any wide scale. The U.S. Secretary of State has opined that this warfare in Venezuela has already achieved its aim and is effectively over.
The United States will manage the power vacuum in such a way that control of the country’s dirty but enormous oil reserves — a crucial market lever — can be directed into private hands friendly to the U.S. and not, for example, to China.
The worries are for the future of the Venezuelan people, who are unlikely to see any revenue from their own natural resources under conditions like these, and for a world in which Hegseth’s barely pubescent “warfighter ethos,” or whatever, is enacted without respect to international law. Here the White House has behaved as a dictatorship in every conceivable sense.
There is no reason to think that they would hesitate to do so again, whenever and wherever the fancy strikes them. In fact, in the wake of this development, Trump is already musing that something ought to be done about Mexico.

Yes. The present US administration goes by the assumption that if they can do it, it is allowed. There is no respect for international law, conventions or the sovereignty of other countries. It is the same lawless dominance and imagined superiority which started WWII in Europe.
This same attitude will inevitably lead to the demise of the United States Of America, as it did finish off the fascist German State. The question is: How many lives will be lost this time?
If the USA continues on this path, a united embargo against it should be put in place. Failure to do so was the biggest pre- WWII mistake. It allowed Germany to build up its massive strength. This mistake should not be repeated.

Yes we should be. It was a long time coming and US under Trump is the wolf finally coming out of its sheepskin. The kidnapping of the President and the first lady of Venezuela is making it clear that US is finally kicking international relations to the curb and is now going to openly bully nations which stand in its way or may I say “Trump's way” and it is the same as Russia invading Ukraine. It is just Western bigotism at its feral best and as I see it, such an agression on another sovereign soil is an act of war. Now is Venezuela prepared to go all out to face the might of US close to its home turf is another matter altogether.
This has quite the implications as far as world geopolitics is concerned. Such a move sets a dangerous precedent for countries to make a move for their own narrative like this gives a great excuse for China to make a move on Taiwan and so much so that multiple wars can break out in many parts of the world at any moment.
In my honest opinion, Trump is now on the cusp of becoming an uncrowned dictator. He is now openly talking about Columbia and Mexico being the next on US crosshairs. His insane acts are now becoming all the more brazen due to threats looming on his position and personal reputation. Now it is left to see that whether he becomes the next Hitler or the next Emperor Nero.

Yes. US is now a rabid lawless thug, just like it was during the Iraq war. Their government are spineless shameless liars just like they have been since that time.
It is unfortunate that their sheepish voters can STILL not see that.

Conflict, no, that’s unlikely. Terrorism? Yep, that’s back on the table, but this time your security services have been gutted, and your allies might accidently forget to pass on information from their intelligence services.

Well Trump is … Trump.
But if we ignore that he is what he is, there actually is precedent to do exactly what Trump did:
In 1989 President H. W. Bush (Bush Daddy) ordered US armed forces to invade Panama and take it’s president to the US for trial.
I wouldn’t say what Bush Daddy did scared others. Like Maduro, Manuel Noriega was accused of Drug trafficking.
Of courseeeeee, this isn’t really about Maduro’s relationship with organized crime. This is about Venezuela’s OIL. But the drug thing is a useful coverup.
Just as one could say should we be scared of Little Bush (Dubya) invading Iraq. Only if you are a sworn enemy of the USA.
So unless you are in Iran/North Korea/Cuba, you are fine. If you are a Canadian or a Mexican, I don’t think you need to worry one iota.
Trump is a bully. A big one. But both Canada and Mexico have already done a few things to make Trump think a thousand times before trying something really forceful against them.

If I was an American living in Venezuela right now, I’d be very nervous. The Venezuela government might choose to retaliate by detaining Americans in that country. Then what do we do? Does this turn into the Iran hostage crisis all over again? There are so many ways That Trump‘s dubious actions can backfire.

We should be concerned that a country is prepared to break international law for their own gains whilst the world looks on and does nothing. A country who is showing the signs of a dictatorship. Who next????
