As long as Big Industry and foreign powers control Congress, the US citizens will be sold out.  We need Campaign Finance Reform, Term Limits, Strict anti-Corruption laws, age limits in Public Office and the Judiciary.  Also, the Heritage Foundation should be investigated for sedition. AI isn't going away, that genie is out of the bottle and isn't going back in.  Government needs to look at how to balance human rights against business rights so we don't get overrun and they need to do it quickly  - if any should be worries about being replaced by AI, it should be government because why do we need a bunch of representatives,  etc screwing the system and getting rich when we can all have a voice and AI can just sift through the data and see what people want? These data centers might be a control mechanism but no one said it would be for the government, they may find someone is out to replace them.

The issue isn't the AI. The issue is how it gets used. Just because you CAN build a machine that can put 90% of humans out of work, doesn't mean you need to permit it's commercial use. We need to develop our AI as fast as possible (without being stupid and creating Skynet). If we don't, our good friends in the East will. They have the unfortunate advantage that in a fascist police state you can build a data centre wherever you want, protesters be damned. If they get to the end of the rainbow first, they'll happily use it against us. Our legislative restrictions need to be more on the commercial use not the development.

What are these data centers for?  Are we spending millions, doing without clean water & air, so that Google can save all our emails?  Nothing we do is worth the trade off of having your community & clean water/air destroyed.  If these companies want to save all our YouTube searches, they should pay for them.. Billionaires are pushing the AI nonsense so they can get richer.  Do your level best to squash AI wherever you encounter it.

Saline township is just outside of Ann Arbor, home of Univ of Michigan. That community has been poorly served by Detroit Edison, the unreliable local power company. Further stress on that grid is going to be a disaster.

There are two definitely negative aspects to AI, as opposed to possible benefits. One the one hand the building of these data centres are in some cases being subsidised by local communities in the supply of electricity and water and on the other there is no limit to the possible redundancies that could take place.. not just unskilled production workers or lowly clerks but also lawyers, accountants, architects and many levels of management.

In the future, we'll only trust data centers that operate within our own pockets. Not even those in my own country, let alone those of a third-party state. Chip factories are certainly a smarter investment. But data centers? That will cost the taxpayer dearly.

You should not worry about data centers and AI it will come down to reality levels soon, the problem for America are the robots and drones, more specifically the ones you can control remotely from another country were labor is cheaper, that, i think, will be the interesting  can of worms, keep an eye out for news of the sort.

My electricity bill, in central California thanks to our private utility outfit PG and E, presiding,  went up 6 times last year and is going up again soon. It is plain to see whose side the regulators are on. My bill had nearly doubled in a year.Looks like MAGA is feeling the sting too.

There is no benefit to AI to society. It will take our water and poison it. It will cause our subdivisions to be noisy. It will override our electrical grids. It will take jobs, and yet the generations behind me are using it on their phones every single day. Nobody is willing to shut AI down off of their phones. I knew they'd just keep ongoing syncing themselves at society further. And further into the rabbit hole

We cannot afford the costs of AI data centers.  Environmentally they will be devastating because the power they need will be fossil fuel derived.  People's utility bills will become impossible to pay.  People won't have jobs so the economy will collapse.  But the worst thing they want to use AI for is making Healthcare decisions.  SMH.

You could almost believe that the fossil fuel companies came up with AI and data centres and cryptocurrencies as a great way to ensure people will never be able to get enough clean/cheap energy and no matter what they do they will still increasingly need fossil fuels and never see reducing prices from having an energy abundance.
