I have housing assistance in TX - national security 8. They were months late w this yrs review and ONLY send emails. They then lied about sending paperwork and gave me 24 HOURS to respond with a 52-57 page renewal paperwork...
I've NO words.

Another point to note, I don't think Rob mentioned it: people who are homeless are driven to drink and drugs out of despair. They are easy victims to pushers and won't be left alone until they buy something. The only community you can find are fellow homeless, the only other people you can interact with are the police and with criminals. And when all you have are a few dollars, what chance is there that you can add up enough to one day leave this situation. The idea that people are homeless due to drugs is more often backwards; the homeless (or even those at risk of homelessness) often turn to alcohol and drugs as the only solace available.
But as Rob and Clara said, something like 50% of homeless have jobs, so this point does not apply to the majority.

As an anarchist, I don't believe in ruling by force. All interactions should be voluntary, with fully informed consent.
However, I know it's not realistic to think that everyone can suddenly remove the scales from their eyes and instantly begin governing themselves, without the need to control and oppress others or the need to be told how to live and whom to accept and love.
So, with that said, as long as government exists it should take all of the money it extorts, or outright steals, and redistribute it from the bottom up.
I'd much rather the funds go for housing and feeding people here than killing, oppressing, and enslaving people here and elsewhere.

Is there a way to make sure that the housing people get in housing first is actually conducive to being healthy and also so people in different strata of behaviors don't get exposed to things they really don't want to be around. That's been my experience like I use the cruel term slumlord subsidization partners because a certain company that handles a voucher I have that's head funded like the rent cap is so low that it does not incentivize landlords making the properties nice like they have a checklist that it has to pass but they will pass stuff and then like having neighbors that use and sell drugs like all that like when people are active substance abuse and people don't really want to be around that and it's like even though people need community I don't know how to be around people who are doing certain things and not feel personally threatened because it reminds me of so many other things

"this isn't a non-profit," and I kept saying "Your main website says that you teach people to start nonprofits and work with non-profits.
