When a country tells you they will raise tariffs on your , products and is unfriendly to you, won't you seek new outlet?
@katieevans6017
This has been the Biden policy, Trump is doing the same. Huge mistake.
@NGC-catseye
China put tariffs on Australian beef, wine and lobsters during covid period. We got to eat cheap beef and wine and we just sold the rest of our products to other markets. It didn’t effect us BUT it did effect them,,, so they removed the tariffs last year. We don’t get cheap stuff anymore
@miriguwa1958
@NGC-catseye The wine duties were a sharp hit for the key Australian industry, with sales to China down 97% in 2021 from the previous year at a loss of nearly 1 billion Australian dollars in value and 90 million liters in volume, according to national industry group Wine Australia.
So you drinking cheap wine compensated for the loss of 1 billion dollars foreign exchange to the Australian economy when the sanctions were on?
"It didn’t effect us BUT it did effect them,,, ". Are you serious? You think only Australia has beef, wine and lobsters? You need to do a little research before coming to silly conclusions.
In the 12 months ending September 2024, Australia exported 59 million liters of wine to mainland China. It's affecting you my friend if they stop importing wine.
@Monkey341
@NGC-catseye
Hahaha! It don't affect us? You sure? It was reported that your lobsters, coal, wine, barley, meat industries were all affected. So, don't BS here, okay?
@JDere
Of course you'd try. However, no single country in the world can absorb $551 billion dollar trade with China, not even the entire EU. Now, talk all the nonsense you want.
@yedidyah-jedshlomoh1533
The United States pursued a protectionist policy from the beginning of the 19th century until the middle of the 20th century. Between 1861 and 1933, they had one of the highest average tariff rates on manufactured imports in the world. After 1942, the U.S. began to promote worldwide free trade and lost industry.
Tariffs were the greatest (approaching 95% at times) source of federal revenue until the federal income tax began after 1913. For well over a century the federal government was largely financed by tariffs averaging about 20% on foreign imports.
Low taxes and high tariffs bring the industry back.

Food for thought:

Exports were (from US to China) $195.5 billion; imports were $562.9 billion. The U.S. goods and services trade deficit with China was $367.4 billion in 2022. U.S. goods exports to China in 2022 were $154.0 billion, up 1.7 percent ($2.6 billion) from 2021 and up 39 percent from 2012…. Sooo

You got what you voted for, don't cry now
@tommoclement
Indeed they did. However, one hopes they see that voting for Trump was such a stupid decision. He played to the uneducated. He played the racist card. And yet those who about his racist views. Vote for him. So what does that make them???
@raymond-i2v
Some economists have projected that both the U.S. and parts of Europe could slip into a recession for a portion of 2024. A global recession, defined as a contraction in annual global per capita income, is more rare because China and emerging markets often grow faster than more developed economies. Essentially the world economy is considered to be in recession if economic growth falls behind population growth.
@davidelplaneta272
That makes sense and this story is about economics and the possibility of a recession. But the more interesting question is how can any capitalist economy continue to function without overpopulating the world resulting in catastrophic damage to the planet? Some people think that space travel is the only option,
but they are wealthy and powerful and would be amongst the few people who would have the ability to survive in a toxic atmosphere. I don’t advocate for socialism or Communism or anything that has proven to not work, but there must be a way for life to continue without destroying itself and changing the economic system will have to be part of the solution. Just a thought for consideration.
@Rosula_D
We're living in a changing world and the people who refuse to adapt will have to face the worst consequences. No power can stay on top for ever. Unfortunately for the US citizens, they keep choosing people who accelerate their fall.
@Felipe-n3j
Plsss don’t blame the downfall of USA economy on China….China is not to blame.
@edwinwise6751
The focus on hitting quarterly numbers and keep shareholders happy with little view to the future , with a large dose of hubris . Look at General Electric under Jack Welsh and what he left behind for a great example of what got us here
@sheba8433
Tariffs are always paid by the America consumer with higher prices,
@castirondude
Of course tariffs are paid by the consumer. It makes sense to tax foreign made products instead of domestic, even if the total tax burden is the same.
@janventer7942
You seem to fail to understand that the tariffs protect American industries and jobs from being undercut by Chinese government subsidies.
@carolynstokes333
We can't take any more price increases. The prices for products are out of control, now. If tariffs are added, basic food meds goods just to live will be a rough walk not seen probably since the great depression.
@janventer7942
@michaeljohn7398 Rubbish? That's your argument? The *** gives their EV manufacturers a 50% subsidy, so their vehicles dont cost $50k, only $25k. In the US, there is no subsidy, so American vehicles cost $50k. So poeple by Chinese cars, and American manufacturers go bancrupt, and people lose their jobs. Can you give me an intelligent answer instead of "rubbish"?
@panli-z4m
@janventer7942 Nonsense, China only has tax incentives for the auto industry, and new energy vehicles are exempt from purchase tax. There are no other subsidies.
China offers a 50% subsidy per car? China sells over 30 million cars a year, how much do you figure? Use your brain.

Well done. This constant bullying, has been going on for too long. Every country has the right to equality and respect.

We had our chance to elect the best person to lead our country, but we were forced to return to the Stone Age with an unsuitable person. The uneducated people in this country took the road to nowhere, and they took us with them.
@Pierina.24
A trade war with China is the 2nd worst thing that can happen to the American people. China can stop buying American goods but America CAN'T stop buying Chinese goods because Americans do NOT buy Chinese goods in America. Does anyone living in America see Chinese brands being sold in the country? Brands like Huawei, DJI, xiaomi, Geely, BYD, Tencent, Douyin, OPPO are not household names on the shelves of American retailers.
What about Made in China? Goods Americans buy that are made in China are American brands made in China, not Chinese brands. Americans can stop buying Made in China but it hurts the American consumer most having to buy alternatives at higher prices. Next most affected are the American corporations losing sales in America. The least affected by a trade war are the Chinese workers making American goods in China. In 2014, U.S.-based multinational affiliates employed a mere 1.7 million workers in China, with nearly half of them working in manufacturing.
Unfortunately most American people don't know this.
@dexter726
American goods made in China can be produced in America if manufacturing is more and more automated, using robots, etc. The question is where that will leave the average American worker in terms of being able to make a living wage.
@scottgeorge4268
Basic sales technique? When you constantly insult and attempt to bully your customers they tend to find alternative suppliers.
@paulphotios3920
I feel a reenactment of the great depression a century ago. All those with first hand knowledge are now gone and we rely on the not so accurate history books. Failure of agricultural markets is an indicator. My wife lived through perestroika in russia and that has similarities to what is happening in the western world. Trump could very well achieve the same as what Gorbachev did in russia when he tipped economic markets upside down. The only winner in russia were the oligarchs and the same thing could happen in the usa.
@kellikelli4413
Now I understand why so many store names in America are closing or scaling back - they are stores that sell many made in China items (they're planning ahead).
@briankin1827
It is not Trump but the american people as they have duly elected him to be their leader and spokesperson.So enjoy the rough times ahead.
@goching7738
China always wanted to maintain a stable relationship with America politically and economically but unfortunately US always seeks conflicts and impose all sorts of rulings to contain the rise of China. US administration would talk one thing and do another thing due to hegemonic and colonial mentality.
@dczhen4358
Culturally, all the Chinese really want is prosperity, health and wealth. War and conflict? Not so much.
@dexter726
I think America does not have a colonial mentality. What America is still suffering from is the post-WWII illusion that it is the dominant economic power in the world. We are one of the few industrialized countries, and the largest, whose homeland came through that war unscathed, with a mighty defense industry that could quickly be converted to domestic purposes. That enabled the U.S. to have decades of post-war economic dominance. We are just now, in the last decade or so, wakening from our decades long binge and suffering a huge hangover.

America still exports goods? Could have fooled me. I don't remember the last time I saw anything that was made in the USA.

Bye bye Miss America eating pie, when you drive to the levy the levy will be dry…Trumps good ole boys will still be drinking whiskey and rye singing how did we vote for America to die?
@Jim-jh9bd
Wait for it the price of everything will go up because of Trump
@deviouskris3012
@ I’m not American. So I can laugh at this. Price makes a huge difference to consumers. The US sells its local ( light sweet crude ) and imports cheaper ( sour ) crude to use for the American market. Those tariffs will apply to that and will result in an uptick in logistics costs. Which of course will be passed onto the consumer. Adding to the prices and leading to inflationary increases.
Combine this with the fact that India produces the majority of precursor drugs that are the backbone of US medicine. That will lead to skyrocketing medial costs. Once again, harming the lower to medium inclme brackets.
@MrGerdbrecht
@deviouskris3012 I am also not american. Only because something makes a huge difference doesn't mean it means everything. So if you have no argument to falsify my statement then i guess it stays.
@deviouskris3012
@ your argument fails because prices as a derivative of inflation, were the largest cause of disgruntled voters. As recorded by exit polling data. Meaning that prices are considered the key issue for voters.
All you’ve done in try to down play the reality that price is a massive issue to US voters. Appealing to ‘nothing exists within a vacuum’, brings zero to the conversation. So either you’ve attempted to down play the issue, making yourself uniformed. Or you’ve gone down an irrelevant rabbit hole that adds nothing to the conservation.
