Are you serious about this question. Go to the grocery store and see how far $100 will go toward feeding a family of four. Go to the hardware store and try to buy enough lumber to repair a porch floor with $300 dollars. Or got to the pharmacy without drug insurance and try to pay for a prescxtion that doesn’t have a generic equivalent. And there are many more examples of people just trying to have enough money to buy the things they need much less afford any items just because you want them. The middle class and especially the working poor are falling further and further behind with no end in sight. And to make things worse the Republicans are gradually taking away the programs that are designed to help people just make ends meet. They are literally robbing the poor to give to the rich. The top 10% of the richest people in US pay less of a percentage of their income than the bottom 10% of our population. That is a sad commentary for a country that used to be the envy of the world for how we made sure even the poorest of our citizens could live a comfortable and decent life if they worked every day.

And Trump has proposed solutions that haven’t improved the economy but worsened it.

Right now, we’re seeing what economists seem to call a K-shaped economy. This means that it’s getting better for some, and getting worse for others.

Also, the very rich suddenly have more disposable income atop the mountain of disposable income they already had, and use that to invest more, driving the stock market up.

For the poor and most of the middle, the economy is getting worse. Inflation, tariffs, and migrant/immigration raids have raised the cost of goods, including most (or all) essential goods. The economy is seeing a retraction in middle-to-bottom discretionary spending, as people have to shift away from luxuries or nice-to-haves to focus on essentials.

I’ve seen some economists say that we might be experiencing a decoupling of the consumer class and owner class. If that happens, top-level and corporate wealth could become self-sustaining, especially with government backing. We would no longer be a capitalist nation; instead, we’d turn into a Frankenstein’s Monster of corporate and executive socialism, something akin to a sordid marriage of 1920s-era robber barony with feudalism. We’d have an effective aristocracy of corporate leaders, wealthy trust-fund babies, and politicians (and there are people actively trying to make this happen, bizarrely thinking that we need an aristocracy, despite hundreds of years of evidence that it doesn’t work as well). And such a nation would be fueled by a new opiate of the masses: anger and fear-inducing media, free of facts and indulging in misinformation.

That would be a Bad Thing: the middle class would disappear and even the professional class would be relegated to corporate serfdom. Anyone without a big profitable skill would be in a lower class with no real safety net. It would be a radical departure from the proven success of social democracy, elevating greed and wealth above all else. Instead of the promise of advanced technology easing the lives of all, it would be used to enrich the few and oppress the rest.

For decades now, we’ve been drifting further and further away from democracy, allowing the wealthy to accumulate more power and tearing down the safeguards that were supposed to protect Americans from tyranny. This K-shaped economy is showing that in practice: government policies that favor the wealthy and allow American citizens to fall through ever-larger cracks.

So what do you do?

Vote in primaries. Vote in every single election. Don’t vote for corporate lackeys. Vote for candidates that promise more restrictions on campaign finances and contributions. Vote for candidates that ultimately favor reducing voting restrictions and eliminating gerrymandering. Vote for candidates not backed by billionaires. Vote for candidates that propose increasing taxes on the wealthy. If a candidate is talking about cutting taxes, don’t vote for them, because it’s ultimately a scam. Vote for candidates that propose using government money for the good of all. Don’t be fooled by distractions, like buzzwords and empty speeches: look at what the politicians actually do, not what they say. We have politicians now that will say they support popular things, then turn around and vote against them. If something a news source or politician says makes you afraid or angry, pause and think about it, because they may be trying to circumvent your critical thinking.
