I grew up in a catholic family albeit in the CA bay area so maybe it's just a disconnect living in a bubble, but my mom said Catholics tended to be Italians, Irish, Filipino and Mexican and voted more for democrats and that other denominations were mostly people who had lived in the US so long they didn't remember where they were from and voted republican.

I don’t think Venezuela is that analogous to Vietnam because the internal situation is totally different. I think it would be a really messy version of Panama but also just look absolutely horrid on the world stage. They barely have a military and the public isn’t really armed so the military portion would likely be very short but then the whole country becomes the US’s problem. And the administration already is super worried about migration and has specifically demonized Venezuelan migrants for years but a war would obviously just supercharge Venezuelan migration. And then likely Trump does install a president but who? And do they actually reform it and create a proper democracy or does the US just install a dictator? There’s not even that many benefits to it for the current administration outside of more military funding, access to oil we don’t need and delaying the Epstein files. It’s just a desperate performance of “power”
