The Truth About AI And The Mass Layoffs

Between January and September 2025, there have been 946,426 job cuts announced, with roughly 300,000 from the government sector, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas. But some economists don't buy that recent layoffs are caused by AI. Economic uncertainty, tariffs and less consumer spending might be hurting U.S. workers more than CEOs will admit.

Honestly, this whole AI-and-layoffs situation feels like companies shifting blame. They keep saying “AI made us do it,” but half the time they’re just cutting costs because shareholders want bigger numbers. AI is just the new excuse.
@lazarocarlos4018
Yeah, it’s wild. I work in retail, and we got “automation upgrades” last year. Most of it is barely functional lol. The layoffs weren’t because robots are smarter—it’s because management wanted to trim staff. People forget these decisions are human, not machine.
@drakebraydon7124
Back to the AI topic—people need to understand that the layoffs aren’t about lack of jobs but about skills changing. And if companies are downsizing unpredictably, having guidance from someone who knows how markets move is a bonus. I keep telling folks: don’t panic, just prepare.
@tosunpasa4294
I’m from Florida and got connected to her through a neighbor. She helped me rebuild after I got laid off from the logistics sector—AI hit our department hard. She doesn’t overpromise, just gives real options.
And for anyone curious: research her name online — you’ll see what people mean.
@patricia_nura3378
I’ve noticed her name coming up more often lately. People around here mention her as someone who really helps them stay steady when everything in the markets feels uncertain. One friend of mine actually rebuilt his digital-asset portfolio using some of her ideas after he got laid off from an ‘AI restructuring.’ Kind of rare when online advice actually ends up being useful.
@Rubenjimen
I like how she wrote in her book The Philosophy of Smart Investing that success isn’t about luck—it’s about smart decisions even when the environment changes. That fits perfectly with this AI layoff mess. People think the world is ending, but sometimes it just means you need a better playbook.
@normantyler3944
AI isn’t stopping anytime soon, but neither is human creativity. People just need the right info to navigate the chaos. And yeah, Jennafer is one of the few voices that breaks things down in plain English. She’s been my top recommendation for a while now—strong track record, steady approach, and genuinely helpful for anyone trying to stay ahead.
@ShortThePig
Understand that AI is not replacing the whole Dev Team. With advent of Aai Coding agents, a Team of 20 is shrunk to 8 and add Copilot. At the speed of AI, there is not enough work for 20 ppl to do anymore.
@Corgi11111
ai infrastructure costs are causing the layoffs. The monetary benefit in implementing AI is not realized yet, and probably won’t be for another decade. They need $$$ for data centers and chips!!!! That why they’re getting rid of folks!!!!

For some partly true. Business is always changing. You are not a born family member but an important team member when needed. AI will continue to offer more features, benefits, resources, and productivity improvements. People need to Adapt, train, adjust skills etc, or be faced with longer unemployment times, having to move, maybe work remotely. Think about Your value is your skills, potential benefit, speeding growth of the company. Productivity task completion time. Not a big social, hangout, that is always fun, easy, but should be rewarding

It was greenwashing in 2010s, now it’s AI-washing in 2025…
@shermc4587
Layoff due to AI. Layoff due to Robot, Layoff due to internet. Layoff due to computer. Layoff due to automation. Layoff due to globalization. Layoff due to global warming. Layoff due to oil running out.
@XxDrEvilxX
AI should be able to take over CEO jobs if anything
@nunyabyzzzz
The craziest thing is I'd rather have a rational ChatGPT as my boss than some fool beancounter who can only think in time slots of 3 months.
@dt6esdff413
CEO are political position my dude, they're hired by people to make profit on the side too, insider trading and whatnot, AI are way too honest to be a CEO...

Corporate Greed and a convenient excuse that blindly boosts investor confidence
@babthew
This is the problem when have stockholders that don’t know anything tell you how to run your business. Running the economy to its lowest just to get a return on investment.
@cawheeler27
It’s good to see that some main stream outlets aren’t completely bought into the AI hype. Liesman was right, there’s a lot of assumptions be made about AI replacing jobs that simply isn’t supported by the evidence. There are far more structural economic reasons for why layoffs subdued hiring are happening right now.
@ChristianJacquet9
Exactly! The “AI took my job” narrative just makes headlines, but if you look closer, it’s just companies tightening up after years of easy money. Productivity gains from AI aren’t even close to offsetting the slowdown in spending and higher borrowing costs.
@SnoopDogg88888
This analysis is spot on. The comments these folks make is 100% accurate. It helps with tasks, coding , writing , researching , but can’t really do an entire job . It can’t even do customer service!!!!
@alphaomega1351
Been saying this for the longest! Anyone who has ever worked in corporate America knows that 90% of ALL the jobs are BS!
You spend most of your day sitting around or in pointless meetings. The only time of business is when the occasional project comes along.
This was the case way before AI.
@tobeboom
I use AI every day, it’s a glorified search engine. Not anywhere near what they are advertising. I spend more time trying to get it do what I need than it would take me to do it myself, and you spend your whole life cutting out fluff and fill words to be direct and precise and it fills the page with crap to try and sound smart.
@F0XRunner
Companies are firing en masse because they over hired in 2021-2022. That doesn't make the layoffs any less painful and not being AI related doesn't mean they are going to stop. I had two people laid off from my team just last week.
@jltrain-zgamingrailfan202x3
I have actually been wondering for a while now since hearing stories in the past months regarding layoffs relating to AI. Thanks for posting this CNBC.
@CursedAmbition
What's crazy is that people line up for these tech companies that routinely wipe out 10% of their staff annually.
@saulgoodman2018
It's just used as a scare tactic.
AI is not calling people to be fired.
@MyVlogTherapy
Yes however jobs and businesses are getting gaslight, with people telling them “well you better get AI because you’re going to get left behind,” “everyone is using AI why aren’t you?” Ect ect.. I think people should stop pressuring people of what they need to invest in this or else.. that’s what’s driving the firings. Projecting..
projecting...
@pendleton123
I work in Corporate. Our company had layoffs earlier this year. AI isn't a direct use for my department but management told us start learning how to use it. As our Department aren't directly threatened by AI but the threat will be others that know how to use AI.
@chunhungyang
To me, AI empowers top management to equip themselves and take direct action in real-world operations, thereby eliminating several intermediate management layers that waste hours in endless meetings while fiercely guarding their silos. And we don't need more advanced gpt on this MGT process , what we have on grok , chatgpt 5, Gemini 2.5 pro are already good enough in this marketing world ..again , just my thoughts
@deeplife9654
Not a single job has been replaced by AI yet, but it may replace some jobs in the future. AI = Another Indian. American companies are employing more people in India than in the USA.
@937553
When the person is let go, no AI or other person is replacing them. Its all for cost cutting
@sithracer
why is no one reporting on what the gov is doing with all the revenue it receives since not being distributed? these funds are accumulating....
@SrikarKura
I agree that generative AI is enhancing human capabilities rather than replacing jobs. Most of the layoffs we’re seeing today stem from economic or structural factors, not from AI itself. In fact, organizations that embrace AI responsibly are finding new ways to boost productivity and create roles that didn’t exist before.
@Teetopjon
I was told I’m being laid off, I’m not sure if I was laid off because of AI, but I’m certain that it’s becoming harder to get hired due to AI. AI auto rejects many applications

Imagine losing your job to a computer then the power goes out and you get a phone call to please come back to work…
@didzisstalidzans5232
It should not replace, but it should make individuals more productive thus decreasing number of headcount.
@calidreams5379
It’s been at least a decade since they replaced humans with automated answering systems and I suppose they are saving money but it’s a still a TERRIBLE SYSTEM, not an improvement.
@on__off2923
i always laugh when people say AI will take people's jobs, given that we're still at the ABC stage of AI. It's too early to worry as we're still building data centers and training models...Alot of people who claim AI will take jobs just don't seem to understand what AI is all about.
@-XFigure
We're only on the cusp of this trend.. alot of speculation, but we're about three revisions from real meaningful agentic replacement
@warrenlanham9088
Amazon did lay off tens of thousands because of AI... just not because AI is doing their jobs... quite the opposite really.
They laid all those ppl off because they need to spend billions buying the equipment to bring their AWS up to speed in regards to AI compute without dramatically affecting cap ex.
Ppl keep taking about how "it looks like they were wrong about AI taking jobs" when the reality is the infrastructure to run the kind of AU needed to take those jobs doesn't even exist yet
@bkakus
When will we see company layoff all janitors and say AI took over the jobs? I mean some robots are getting there, but not There yet.
@jg5875
AI is just like prior technologies like automation, machine learning, data science, etc. Makes people/organizations more productive and only replaces some low-skilled human jobs. AI will NOT take all human jobs.
@sommmeguy
Robots should be treated like foreign workers. Before an employer can "hire" a robot, they should first demonstrate that no human could do the job. Then they should apply for a license/visa that would need to be renewed on an annual basis. The revenues from the licensing should be reseved to provide bridging finances for workers and businesses that have been replaced by AI and robots.
@Cookiemaster333
Ok. So these two statements are from the same video. 1) "AI will replace entry level jobs, but not people in higher position" 2) "A lot of people talk about work, but don't actually do work. Companies thus need to fire middle management"....???..... I mean, I totally agree with the latter statement, but having both hypothesis in the same video is quite confusing.
@Atem_S.
It's not AI it's corporate bloating. A lot of people getting fired are the ones that was hired during Covid. The Companies do not need them anymore so they are downsizing. Also, some realized they are over paying some staff for job that 2 new intern can do for half the price. It's all about generating profits!
@dr.rubaiatrubaiatjoy
It is economic situation I think . america president disrupt their economic situation and forced big company to cut off people.any way america rich people not all time care for human
@phillipgoat00
AI is not taking job, offshoring is. I was working as a support engineer, and that company fired every single american except seniors and hired in india, latam, mexico, a bunch of them. Where I am right now, same thing, they hire in low income, but highly educated countries like brazil, europe and Hong Kong. Americans not that much.
@albanx1
it is not AI, it just greed, push from shareholders, to inflate share prices. These companies now are driven by shareholders and middle class management that do not know what technology and innovation is. Once upon a time these big companies were driven by goals, innovation, advance in technology... today is just shareholders to bump prices
@BigNoseDog
AI has become the perfect cover story for companies who want to lay off workers. The market will see your use of AI as evidence that you’re becoming more productive. And because you’re cutting workers, you’re lowering costs and hence becoming more profitable. The stock market loves both of these things.
@raff1584
People used to look for the right tools to make work more efficient and more profitable for the company, these days I’ve been seeing companies having a shiny AI tool and making people use it for whatever work they do even if that makes the job less efficient and poorly done.
@GREATLFG
how many AI graphics used in this video clip? How many job it eliminated?
@jimbob1353
There are going to be jobs cut because of AI. When the bubble bursts and everyone realizes they have spent way too much stocks are going to crash and they will need to cut jobs. It’s not going to be because the chat bots stole your job.
@XxvaxionxX
There's a reason why Japanese companies survive so long. They don't do layoffs as much as Western companies. The employees feel safe and some even work in the same company their entire lives
