The problem is just like when promissory notes for Gold were invented there are many thousand times more 'promises' of Gold than there is physical Gold. What would have been very interesting is comparing the amount of dollars in circulation to the amount of gold in circulation over the past couple of centuries to really hit home the debasement trade.. after all that is what the word debasement actually means.. to water down gold and replace is with lesser metals.. but like most information these days they dance around the nuts and bolts to throw you in all sorts of directions but never hit the nail on the head..

Two separate prices for Gold. one price for industrial Gold (manufacturing) and another price for Government Gold, investment grade Gold. The investment grade Gold Always trades higher than industrial Gold so the Government can profit off the difference in price. The Government investment grade Gold will have Government stamp or seal  to tell you what it is.  The Gold with the stamp will be one price and the Gold with out the stamp would be lower price.

There is fundamental in barter trade we forget. Despite the modern finance we live in, we are still barter trading. I look into my pocket. I have USD10, or USD10 worth of gold to echange for something, say, a meal, later in the day. The paper dollar is just a representative of gold to exchange the value that I earned to something of value to me. The guy get 0.08g of gold equivalent (more or less) for the chicken chop I will have later.

The thing with gold is it rises to a new level but it never goes back to its old price. NEVER. This is the usual Bloomberg rubbish.

1. People are not investing as before. Everyone with a phone can invest. Most are NPCs and the only thing they know is that Gold is safe. So an increase in retail investors translates into people buying gold as an alternative to investment. They need to look at WHO is holding the gold not at the chart.
2. In a few years/decades we will be able to produce Gold synthetically, just like we do witth the diamonds now. My conspiracy brain tells me we are actually very close to this but people don't want it because it will cause panick for large institutional holders. So there is a conflict of interest.
In summary - relax. Past patterns don't translate to same results in present times. Keep an open mind
