美国突袭现代工厂让韩国公司陷入困境

American expat in Korea here.  This has gravely damaged Korean perception of US.  These people are there in good faith volunteering to bend backwards through ESTA and B-visa.  US authorities are taking the side of legal technicalities and framing these experts as "illegals" as if they crossed the border like some low wage manual labor people.  For God's sake these people are there to complete the factory so American workers can work there.  Currently there is no American companies or workers that can take their place since American manufacturing is hollowed out so much.  Talk about shooting yourself in your foot.

If the US put high enough tariff, they will shift some part of it to the US for the US market only. Which is really not much in term of future and global share for a lot of goods and product types. Some major products like pc, electronic can be make in the US and cars, but they will be made and sold only in the US. Which doesn’t really change “deficit” status. Since the price is so high you can’t compete with themselves in foreign factories.

What do you mean humiliation?  South Korea should have acquired work visas for these people. American companies don’t sneak U. S. Citizens into South Korea to work in American plants.

They did have visas. They came under a category called training visas. They have special skills in building and training others on their methods. Not only will Hyundai not be able to complete the plant, but this has caused a huge diplomatic break with an sllie. An LG plant was to be built next door. Think they will follow through?

Sub-contractors inside the compound brought in illegal immigrants, South Koreans that crossed the border or over-stayed their visas. They thought working inside Hyundai would protect them and hide them among South Koreans that have valid work visas in the country.
Large American companies, including the one I work demand you submit a green card or proof of U.S. citizenship as condition for employment.
What makes Hyundai exempted? Even Hyundai just announced that they made a mistake in not checking their sub-contractors.
You are welcome to do business in our country. But don't break our laws.

Pretty simple these contractor’s knows our laws but broken them anyways. Companies hire them is not that innocent too they need to be charged & punishment a coming too!!

Those Koreans were employees on a business trip to help build the battery factory that enables Americans to build cars. The issue is that ICE shackled and treated them like serial killers instead of simply giving Hyundai an official warning or penalty. It’s total disrespect, and a lose-lose situation. Imagine Americans being treated that way in a foreign country.

So companies are to bring or build there businesses in America but only Americans can do the jobs? So you send immigration after the very people who have in work in America?? That makes no sense unless the jobs are only for Americans

To the Americans that think that all these companies investing billions in America is going to shift the global or even local production to America...
It is not because they are just pretending to be, all those companies that are investing they  have set the production dates nearly 10 years in future for America, by that time Trump would be long gone, till then they are just buying time. They are not going ever start producing in U.S for global market Americans neither have the enough people with required skills nor do they have the basic training facilities to train that amount of people in that time frx. Plus  everything is already overpriced in U.S both the skill and material. Who in their right mind would pay 2 to 3 times extra for a car that is neither produced by the proper skilled workers nor it is going to have proper routine maintenance due to the lack of skilled car service and repair industry. It would be like buying a lesser product for many times more inflated price and with no future serviceability or resale value.

Why were South Koreans working in GA?  If they were here to train or provide expertise, why didn't they go through the proper channels?  People with specific skills that can't be met get H1-B visas, which their employer applies for from US Labor Department.  It sounds like Hyundai was being dumb.

It is very hard to get working visas right now thats why many workers come with a travel visa. If you want korea to invest at least make it easier for people to come and do their job
