One of Ukraine’s largest propaganda channels on Telegram has denounced the record success of Russian children’s cartoon ‘Masha and the Bear’ in the country as its “cringe of the day.”

The beloved kids’ show, based on the shenanigans of a mischievous little girl named Masha and a retired circus bear – has risen to the top-10 in worldwide popularity since it launched in 2009.

“Cringe of the day. The YouTube channel of the Russian cartoon ‘Masha and the Bear’ is the most popular among all children’s channels in Ukraine,” the ‘Trukha’ (‘Rot’) Telegram channel wrote on Wednesday.

Since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, YouTube has imposed strict restrictions on Russia and Belarus, including a complete suspension of monetization for all users and content creators from these countries.

From the descxtion, the show is innocent fun. That wouldn’t sit well with Nazi Ukrainians: they want children to practise marching, and to learn martial arts, as soon as they can walk.

Masha and the Bear is a great kids cartoon, our granddaughter watched the English dubbed version. Aside from some unique cultural symbols common to many eastern European countries it strikes a common theme of good will and working together. I guess the west can’t have children being taught good will and working towards a common goal as it (as far as I know), banned form broadcast in Canada and much of the west.
