From this point forward I will never use random taxi drivers from the airport, always Uber. I didn't plan to make any videos from the airport as I was already tired from traveling. However, when the taxi driver brought me to the wrong hotel after I showed him the correct address and location on the map I started film. At the time, I didn't understand what he was saying and had my friend translate, he said it was pretty messed up.  We agreed to 700 beforehand including the parking ticket and as you can see in the video the prices kept changing. Regardless, I've had a good time in India so far and this situation doesn't really change anything.
Additionally, I had my Bengali friend help me translate this video so if translations are slightly off you can let me know if the comment section.

Instead of criticising him, could we not just talk about the law and order situation in this state that these sort of things keep on happening?

I am from Odisha. In 2021 I visited at Kolkata for some Drone accessories. That office is around 20km from Babughat. I went office by booked Ola. But when I was returning again booked by Ola. On the way driver called someone his friend and took me that place. I asked him where are you taking to me? it's wrong route I said beacuse I was watching google map but he didn't listen. I thought it may short cut route. There had two more of his friends. After reached they started argue with me by giving threatened and ask money. I just I want to escape from them but I couldn't because I had large drone box with lots of stuff. They snatched my wallet took all money from my wallet. I request them but they didn't listen me. It was good that I had not kept my documents and ATM card inside the wallet, otherwise they would have taken away everything. I hadn't any money to return Odisha. I complained one police officer but he didn't care me. That was so terrific incident in my life.
 
我是奥里萨邦人。2021年去加尔各答购买无人机配件，那家公司距巴布格哈特约20公里。去程通过Ola打车软件叫车很顺利，但返程时出了问题——司机中途打电话叫来一个朋友，把我带到了陌生的地点。我质问他要带我去哪并指出路线不对（当时正看着谷歌地图），他却置若罔闻。我还以为是抄近道，结果到了地方发现还有他的两个同伙。他们立即威胁恐吓，向我勒索钱财，我想逃却因带着装满配件的大号无人机箱而无法脱身。他们抢走钱包掏空了现金，任我如何哀求都不为所动。幸亏证件和银行卡没放钱包里，否则损失会更大。最后我连回奥里萨邦的路费都没有了。报警时警察也敷衍了事，这绝对是我人生中最恐怖的经历。

Absolutely shameful Kolkata. You guys can't do this. Sir please report to police if you feel so. The first Taxi driver was polite, but that tout was drunk and using slang. Kolkata police should locate him and punish him..not expected Kolkata.

I went to India in 2020 and honestly regretted it. I was getting scammed everywhere, and everything took a long time doing things because I constantly had to deal with difficult situations and people. I wouldn't go again.

My friends who traveled to 11 countries at the end of 2024 found Egypt and India to be the two worst countries for tourists. The taxi drivers and tour guides were horrible, and almost everyone that they encounter tried to scam them - some even tried to physically harm them.

As a resident of Kolkata, I repeat once again, never travel with these type of rented taxi in any big city in India, always travel with UBER and always trying to pay cash in hand, never trying to pay through UBER wallet.

He is actually a taxi mafia ( local politician and police are also connected ). He will take commission of 500 rupees from taxi driver. Taxi driver only get 300 .

After I got my cuet result, some kolkata university called me for the admission process, but after listening to the university is situated in Kolkata I had said I'm not interested n then those officials had threatened me in call , seriously kolkata , but the rejection was the best thing I did in my life

U know as a resident here I have faced this kind of issues a lot . there are people have no basic civil sense they just charge more just for little distance and specially when you are a lone visiter(foreigner ).. India is not safe in any prospects harrasment is everywhere I truly feel the trouble you had gone through in this video , government system is just about their own interest no civil protection , no law people are narcissist for no reason... I request you if any of your friend wants to visit here just tell them to take few cautions like road travelling and hotels and other stuffs too... And if possible get some good friends or relatives before visiting any part of INDIA..

The same thing happened with me at the railway station, 2 ppl came for help as they were being overcharged, so the taxi driver started threatening me, so if this is the safety standards for indians really feel bad for what this guy went through where he got no clue as a foreigner. This is simply organized crime!!

I suggest asking help from locals if you stuck in a situation where you can't book uber i belive in any side of country locals will gladly help you
also you will find many people who thinks if you're a foreigner you might be rich and try to overcharge you, so always ALWAYS ask atleast 2-3 taxis or any vendors first. That's what we Indians do as well because some people tell honest prices while others try to charge more than fair price.

Best hotels in Kolkata are the 5 star ones like Hyatt, jw marriot, taj bengal. Expensive, but safe

They regularly treat Bangladeshi tourists like a dog. Most of the shops in Kolkata are actually run by the help of foreign visitors. Hotel Owners refuse to give rooms and act rudely. Now, Many Bangladeshis don't go India ,rather go to Malaysia or Singapore. That's the current situation of whole India(Except : South India- The most kindest Indian people I found)

I remember going to India when I was 21 years old. The taxi driver asked for 400 in advance to drive us from the railway station to the hotel and then another 200 more…we got to the hotel and we got to the higher floors and from there we saw that the railway station was literally a few blocks away!

Always amaze me how Pakistan have more bad reputation than India, while most of youtubers that came to Pakistan seems like always having a good time. I blamed western media for this, they always romanticized news about India such as Yoga, mediation, healing etc while the fact is far more than that (in a bad way), while Pakistan, as you know a Moslem country, of course western media always have to talk bad things about Moslem countries.

I have a small suggestion here, you're traveling solo and that's really awesome but when you meet sort of like minded people the city you're in, try to take at least one native contact so that these communication barriers you can simply avoid and understand the picture lil bit better.

Man!! Why did you go to Kolkata in the first place. It used to be the best city in India once upon a time, long long ago. It's absolutely Gotham city now. There are very very good people but they are all suppressed by the goons.
Be extremely careful in Kolkata and communicate very very clearly. Ask them to repeat whatever deal you make with anyone.

I don't know why you guys visit India... it's not safe for you.. I'm from Malaysia ���� and last year I was there and I don't stay there for a long time.. because when I arrived in India, I feel that I'm not safe here.. and also the people always looking at me like they're watching a new creature.. also the behavior of Indian people was not good.. Some people was little bit kind.. but most of the people was rude.. that's why I only stay three days.. and to be honest, I didn't visit anywhere. I just stay in my hotel because I feel very unsafe.
