Trey Parker, co-creator of South Park, has offered a brief apology for the show’s scathing recent depiction of US President Donald Trump. Wednesday’s season premiere portrayed him with a tiny penis in bed with Satan.

Parker made the statement at the San Diego Comic-Con International on Thursday, on stage alongside his co-creator Matt Stone.

Earlier in the day, the White House had criticized Wednesday’s South Park episode – which portrayed Trump with his actual photo on an animated body – as a “desperate attempt for attention.”

According to Parker, the producers attempted to tone the episode down the day before it aired.

Since the show’s inception, every episode is created the same week it airs, to have the latest «goings on» as a part of the show’s story and dialogue. Although, Matt and Trey have more recently fallen off their talent wagon and now resort to Family Guy and Simpsons style jokes. South Park started losing it’s shock value after season 10 or so, and they don’t have anywhere near the fan base they had even 15 years ago.

While they still have the occasional good episode the show fell off a cliff once they cleaned up the insults. Nobody gets called a fag anymore and I miss Cartman being called a fat-ass, Kyle a stinking Jew, Token a black asshole and Wendy a slut. It was all part of the show’s genius because the way the boys used to speak was the way boys of a certain age interact with each other within groups. Any difference gets pointed out and exploited mercilessly. Butters was a good example on the show. It’s all part of the dominance lessons young men learn at that age. Trey and Matt recognized this but that crucial part of the show is gone and it shows. Now they resort to cheap shots at politicians for laughs.
