China is one of the global frontrunners in the development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology. These systems are now being used by most of China’s biggest logistics companies across 85 percent of China’s highways, including SF Express and YTO Express, plus international brands like Budweiser and Nestlé. Bloomberg's Chief North Asia Correspondent Stephen Engle hitched a ride with an ADAS truck driver to report more on trucking logistics.

Amazing technology being used to assist people.
@nizicike759
If this can not trigger US national security ,I don't know what else can
@urbanstrencan
This is the future, this is where self-drive is really useful
@CruiseLog8
This is where tech actually helps people, not replaces them.
@oceanrem6531
Three things that our Congress can do to overcome this challenge: 1. declare this a national security threat; 2. sanction anyone using this technology; and 3. pass a law and force the Chinese to sell the company and technology to the U.S.
@potblack243
the carbon rate in China has dropped again last month. they really put much effort in green energy
@hardstylelife5749
I’m impressed (positively), one of the very rare news I’ve heard from "western media" talking about an Asian innovative avant-garde, rather than saying that nobody is still capable of doing it since an "American company" still couldn’t
@shmookins
The year 2050 is going to be nuts.
Things I thought would happen in 2100 look like to happen in half that time. This is just one of them.
Exciting times, indeed.
@angec.4757
LOL, either US companies will have to pay 100% or more tariff for these high tech trucks, or they won't be able to buy any at all due to yet another 'national security' threat!! Cudo to Bloomberg for reporting this without any 'but at what cost'!!
@robertwang7825
There is always a question is China leading the world, the answer is a clear YES.
@L110508
Prepare to hear about driver assistance technologies blockage and sanctions due to national security risk or overcapacity or blah blah blah.
@mr.person1219
Honestly, the seatbelt thing for long drives should be a must for truckers. You can auto-drive, but humans are still needed for specifics.
@minimalistic_banhaus
Imagine if they could drive all the trucks really close together to reduce air resistance, and put them on rails so they didn't have to worry about lane changes!
@YSKWatch
the info about su7 is wrong in this video (very much expected, actually, sigh). the autopilot already request the driver to take over the steering wheel, but the driver is inexperienced and panic, so when she take over the steering wheel, accident happened.
@fankrys
If it pays well, i don't mind spending my days in a truck cabin. Choose the music, or the podcast, get comfortable in your seat, and get going. You might even see many parts of the country people never get to see.
@ShuFromChina-SYE
Technology replaces the low-requirement jobs but pushes those people still at the job to utilize it and basically do their job more efficiently. The people best at adapting and utilizing the latest technology will stay and thrive. The news say that the companies are short of drivers—I assume not the everyday type but the sophisticated ones. In today’s world you got to keep learning and adapting no matter the age. Everywhere there will always be shortage of people who have this characteristics.
@dengist8172
This is a good application scenario for ADAS. A lot safer than busy urban roads
@jeanlefranc3817
Next step : Chinese built self driving trucks take over African roads, laden with containers full of Chinese built equipment, financed at 8% rate by Chinese commerce banks. AI powered Silk Road.
@cmb271
On average you can drive about 500 mi a day solo in the United States with moderate to ideal conditions. Up to 600+ if traffic isn't an issue
@jamsbong
This is nothing more than driver assistance. Not self driving. That said. I do like the company approach of not relying on machine to make decisions as they continue to live monitor the situation. In the end, a CEO of a tech company can sell great ideas but the technology will always require human effort to make it reliable.
@Another-Address
Msy not be long before they put such tech on the roads here.
@nascarnut18
Well this paints a very positive picture for people not losing jobs. Never understood why people were so adamant that the advancement of the technology meant drivers would unilaterally be yanked out of trucks. There are still tons of reasons to have them staffed, even with no touch freight. The more hands on a job is besides the driving, moreso reason to need a person in it.
@nickpiovesan4361
1% fuel savings and 33% labour cost savings is no joke for a fleet with hundreds or thousands of vehicles.
@MikeStlMO
From what the report is saying, it sounds like they are using ADAS to work drivers longer without proper rest breaks. ADAS is just driver assistance, not full self driving. So it wouldn't enable them to have drivers safely work longer shifts.
@transportspotterraphael
That's why there's...Trains. Expressway transport is a very small fraction of the freight transport market.
@jukio02
When it comes to trucking, China and the US is similar, in that the country is big. So, truckers will be on the road much longer than a country like the UK.
@mannyalejo772
Never heard of that seatbelt shaking option when sleepy, but I would pay for that alone.
@markliu9698
About 10,000+ driverless mining truck (60/70/100T) would be in operation in end of 2025.
A lot of driverless van is delivering packages between branch and end point.
@chill-633
This is ADAS, a fairly mature tech that's been available on most new cars in the US (and the rest of the world) for some time now. Like "smart cruise control", it'll maintain safe distance, keep you in the lane, and even follow the road and safely switch lanes for you. This isn't (and doesn't pretend to be) "self-driving". This is good tech and makes long distance drives much easier and safer.
@Sankar_p07
China would be way ahead in these autonomous driving tech. They don't have the regulatory hurdles like the US.
@ikF3aV2m
Hold up. We 100% tariffed their BYD consumer vehicles because we didn't want their superior cars flooding our markets and destroying our manufacturing industry. But we are ok with them replacing the thousands of our truck drivers?
@Luke-Skymaster
For all of you excited by driverless commercial vehicles. How about starting with the school buses taking your kids to school, then move up to trucks
@MrIchduersies
using self driving to have more working hours thats an intresting concept
@xanthonjp
Self Driving doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be better than humans and that's a very low bar since we are all terrible drivers.
@janbrinkmann123
Crazy how many bots are here!
This is mandatory for new trucks in Europe already.
Thats only driver assistance and NOT automated driving!
@davepotanko5514
We have semi trailers that can go coast to coast and stops in between it's called a railroad/intermodal service. Stop trying to replace a driver's easiest miles on the open highway. Mechanical breakdowns, closed roads, cargo securement during transit, fixing small problems with the vehicle along the way, paperwork, responsibility when something happens, these are what being a truck driver is about any dummy can sit in a chair and run a truck, or vehicle down a open highway, 4wheelers are proof of that everyday. Driving 500+ miles on highway not going through metropolitan areas is the easiest day ever.
@darnellharrison3883
I would love to see a video of one these trucks either American or Chinese operate lane changes and freeway exchanges in LA, The Bay, Dallas, Atlanta and the tri-state area during morning and evening rush hour.
@dfu2009
I hope this technology doesn't turn into requiring the Chinese drivers to spend more than 10 hours on the road without rest
The driver mentioned he could drive 10 hours without getting too tired, but it is dangerous even with the technology assistance
@hectorsanchezvideo
If this was in the US, Fu would be at least 350 lbs and would never utter the words, "I have a lot of energy". lol
@MurphyTheOldMan
well as a south asian, I will now have to learn mandarin to be future proof
@FourwheelsMarvels
the truck is SINOTRUK - they have cars too - i had an opportunity to the walk around video of their cars here in UAE
@donkeykong516
The aviation industry had its fair share of accidents, automated vehicles isn’t any different
@abelincoln3261
I love that they take such good care of their trucks clean well-maintained makes a huge difference. If the united states really wanted to create better lives for us.. they would clean it up.. clean orderly lives reflect clean orderly people. Go to Japan see for yourselves no trash..
@PhilippZ
Thanks for the Inceptio advertisement. Any modern ADAS will do the same. Tesla's Semi is targeting full autonomy without driver. That will be a game changer.
@joshuahill6153
China should really invest in freight rail infranstructure instead of exclusively passenger if they want to fast track autonomy.
@rochester212
This is BS. The truck is not self driving all the way, the driver still cannot rest and also, trucks already have the autopilot feature that can break and accelerate without driver input. This solves nothing.
@bobwoods1302
We're gonna need more roads if these computer cars want half a mile of open road between them and the next car. My cars adaptive cruise control stays too far away from the car in front even on the shortest setting.
@alexparada607
No thank you. No trucker wants to be under surveillance 24/7. Cameras inside the cabin looking at what u do, is a massive breach on your privacy.
Better training, better understanding of the routes and hours that drivers can drive, and experienced truckers is what we need, not more tech!, majority of accidents in North America is due to foreign drivers not knowing the rules of our countries and having shady licences and permits to drive a ten tons truck.
@kalasend
People think there's AI competition between China and US.
Thing is, for China, the economy has a million things that AI can improve.
For the US, the economy has just one thing that AI can improve: stock prices
@NathanGutFiddle
I worked for Schneider in 2022-2023, this is barely an upgrade from the built in "cruise control", which had automated acceleration/deceleration and braking. Similar radar systems, without the invasive driver facing cameras and seat belt tightening system. This is a joke, the future is just more control, smoke and mirrors.
@bigblack420i7
It's one thing if this technology can help make a driver a better driver. Play I fear that this technology isn't going to stop there. I feel that these are just stepping stones for bigger issue. Making trucks completely self drivable to where they remove the person out of the truck. This is going to destroy so many jobs once that happens. That's my fear.
@gfan003
China thought about AI driven trucks but this would kill too many jobs too soon; so now there are human assisted auto driving systems.
@leeyuguang4424
China has a huge unemployment issue. Labors are cheaper than technology and liability. I don't know who this is helping within China
