For decades, Samsung was the world’s leading memory chip maker, but the tech giant was recently surpassed by smaller rival SK Hynix. Is it too late for South Korea’s biggest company to get back in the AI race?

Both SK Hynix and Samsung are founded in South Korea. They both benefit South Korean economy. Competition among multiple businesses is a good thing for consumers; there is no need for a single monopoly.

This video does not mention the biggest problem Samsung has faced for over 10 years. JY LEE, the sucessor of Samsung Group and de facto leader, has been in and out of court and jail for 10 years due to corruption charges which were ultimately thrown out earlier this year.
During the past 10 years, Samsung Group was basically in a holding pattern, making no big investments and taking no risks. The M&A and strategy group within Samsung Group was also disbanded, so there was no oversight or coordination among the different Samsung divisions.
Since JY LEE has now been cleared of all charges, there should be changes to how Samsung Electronics operates.

A lot of people will want to get their next phones with as little AI as possible on them, without having to go through the process of rooting/jailbreaking them and flashing an AI free ROM onto them. This is an opportunity for Samsung to fill that niche.
Of course, as all niches, they are less profitable than having the majority as your customer base, but it is a chance to survive for the time being. At least until S.Koreas demographic crisis makes a different kind of trouble for them.
 
现在有不少人希望自己下一部手机的AI功能越少越好，最好不用刷机破解、刷入无AI系统的ROM就能实现。这对三星来说是一个填补市场空白的好机会。

yeah HBM was used in AMD gaming GPU's but it failed horribly and was crazy expensive so they were just regulated to workstation and data centre GPU's

It is not bad news for South Korea. It is a good idea for Samsung to let SK-Hynix dominate in memory and go develop its Exynos chip to compete with Qualcomm's Snapdragon. Congrats to SK-Hynix. They do make many Koreans proud.

Samsung modern computing products and techs and its appliances, I co-designed and developed. We researched and developed music component/CD/DVD players, TVs, electric fans, washing machines, refrigerators, aircons etc. Even the wind turbines (you see here) for generating electricity and powering the world, very early in our tech activities.
Even Samsung cars and personal computers.

Still make a product in which many are still purchasing..astride some warranty issues, product defects as certian Galaxy devices had with cameras ." Security polices" shutting them down well...
They are in a unique position in which they can move forward should they choose to do so into this realm having much of the competition provide data on success plus failures within A.I. builds of the now, and work on something of their own, or just provide a quality device with a O.S. where one may choose which A.I. runs on it. They do make other products than smart devices in which there are sales.

And I am not a Samsung fanboy or an Apple fanboy. I have a MacBook Pro, which is fantastic, and at the same time, I have an S23 Ultra. So I have a good idea where both of them are going.

It’s the hardware that increased in volume capacity & speed. If youre referring to AGI, then thats more recent. But that started back in 2000 with Clippy.

Apple is the one who missed the AI boom. Now they are far far far behind. Samsung is way ahead. In all honesty, I think it's high time we ditch our iPhones in favour of a galaxy or a pixel.
