The same goes for smart phones. The price of a brand new iPhone is 2 to 4 times that of a Chinese brand. This news only reports part of the truth, which is that it is increasingly common for Chinese consumer to buy their domestic brands. But it ignores two other facts: 1. Young people in China are facing the pressure of unemployment and low wages. The average college graduate needs to save 2 to 3 months' salary and not spend a penny (no budget on food and necessity) in order to afford an iPhone. 2. China’s business environment is becoming increasingly unfriendly to foreign companies, and a large number of foreign capital have withdrawn from China. Samsung is a typical example.

While partly you might be true, I choose to disagree on the part that iPhones are 2 to 4 times cheaper than the local smartphone brands... Choose for example the Huawei mate 60 despite being slightly expensive than the iPhone 15 series it sold out more and also factoring that it had inferior chip to that of iphone 15, leading apple to even discount there smartphones so that they can sell but still fell well below top 5 in second quarter of 2024, take of even the Huawei AI chips against the Nvidia.
Well if you're truly a global news reader you would know that the Chinese driven consumption behavior is more driven with the urge to support their local firms against US sanctions

Wow, I'd rather buy not made in China, however everything is made in China. Apple and xiaomi is made in China - the manufacturers win either way.
Really, is this not a movement to just get what you want, but cheaper and for reasonable quality? That isn't isolated to any particular region.
China can manufacture both cheap and quality products, it just depends what the brand wants to pay for.
Also, I doubt anybody will be swichting to baby formula made in China any time soon.

Time is changing. China is improving. China rises from an underdeveloped country to a developed country within a short time span, is just Amazing. And there is no poverty in China, basic housing,basic  infrastructure and basic food are all  readily available to all people even the lowest in the hierarchy.

Buying Chinese-made these days is affordability + value for money.  The equation is roughly, like, 3x cheaper but 1/2x as lasting. In this regard, you have an average saving of some 30% over the longer term.

Years ago, Japanese leading in producing quality products. Then, Korean follow suits. China  mainly produces cheap but low quality products. I guess the reasons are because they learning how to manufacture  cheap, fast and huge quantity. Secondly, cheap and lower quality is good enough for majority in China. Since Chinese, Japanese and Korean have close genetic makeup, the mindset always want to do better. So, the Chinese expand their focus on quality (but more pricey) aspect  because more people can afford and wants quality. Still there are low quality products for those want cheap. And, high quality product for those willing to pay more. So, just like old saying, you get what you pay. Hope that those well-known China brands will uphold their quality and change global perception of China products

good trend in any case. Producing everything in high quality in your own country means lots of jobs for lots of people and it means security as you are not so depenent on other countries.
That said, I just can agree on the luxury Western brands. I've been collecting perfume for about 20 years. Until a certain point in time huge known brands had like one huge new perfume release in several years, with a higher prce tag than drugstore scents of course but you could smell the difference in nichey stuff.
Nowadays the huge known brands have several new releases a year, often 5-10 'new' scents,  - or they aren't even new but the release a thousand flankers of already existing scents. Only the price tag is very different now. If you paid a max of 180.-$ ten years ago, you pay 330.-$ now for the same scent, but not the same quality as ingredients are exchanged for cheaper options. Also they cut possibilities to get trial samples of the new scents because they want to  tempt you to immediately spend your money on the full super expensive bottle. The brands still think the customers don't realise this but many do realise it and don't buy these many new 'all smell the same' releases anymore.
Quality and quantity. It actually gives me a small feeling of satisfaction to hear that these brands are a bit in trouble everywhere because of these methods. Let's see if they understand the customer message, or if they stubbornly want to go on with it losing ever more money and customers to better options.

Definitely makes sense. China has got everything, better and cheaper. The Western brand products had made billions from the vogue it creates from advertising. People are not fooled anymore. It is the mindset. There are even quality flaws in Western products outsourced to cheaper labor countries with low QC control. Apple phone from India is a case in point.

Mainland China companies are quick in their adaptations , manufacturing  & marketing but only hope they are more responsible in the Safety & Reliability concerns as many toxic chemicals are found in Mainland China products & produce ... Majority of medicines & supplements being recalled due to high levels of mercury , lead , arsenic etc., were from Mainland China & so with many clothings ladened with toxic chemicals & electrical appliances & batteries that easily overheated were  from made in Mainland China companies subcontracted to manufactured for other companies using substandard or compromised materials & using poorly trained or pay labours!

Global int'l brand are still made in a third world with third world quality. Why bother if you can buy a reasonable good quality home brand with only a fraction of the price.

I think the issue is that a lot of companies in China cut corners with their products. Most of the time when I got my purchases online that's made in China, they will likely have noticeable defects. I think so long as we can weed out good companies, Its definitely worth buying from them. Currently eyeing Ugreen for technology related stuff as their product seemed to be of quality.

It depends on the importer. If they are targeting low end such as people with lower budget, then it is to be expected that the quality wouldn't be as high, they should state it more clearly in the descxtion.
If the population has more purchasing power, then these Online Shopping sites should be developing some distinct product brands/lines named something like "XXX Finest" or "XXX premium" that are more high end and of better quality to better cater to higher budgets.
China produces all different tier of products from high end to low end. It really depends on your budget.

I honestly feel this video is extremely biased and only shows a very one sided view.
Of course there will be a large number of consumers who can only buy China brand products, because the economy of China is in freefall and unemployment rates are very high. The people there are tightening their purse strings. China products are cheaper so they have no choice but to buy them.
And please differentiate the fundamental difference between 'MADE IN China' and China brands, because they are very different. Many global brands are made in China, but having said that, this is changing rapidly as more and more companies are shifting their operations and manufacturing out of China due to geopolitical and political reasons, as well as security of expats and IPs.
To me when I buy a product, I look at the value proposition. I don't care whether it's from China, Japan, Korean, US or Europe. If I feel that a product is cheap, but the quality is bad enough for me to not want it, I won't buy it even if it's free. Similarly if a product is of high quality, even though the price is high, I will gladly pay for it. It all depends on your own preference and budget in this value proposition, which varies a lot by individuals.
It is pure dumbness to choose a product just because it's origins are from a country. Save this for nationalistic and propaganda lovers.
