Are 70% of customers all over the world who choose Chinese EV’s blind, deaf or dumb? These people voted with their hard earned money. Not some brain dead who buy a Tesla because of MAGA thinking. So these millions people who choose BYD. NIO. Zeeker, and another 20 other brands from Chinese manufacturers did their homework very thoroughly. And in spite of the Chinese cars made half way around the world and having to cart it all the way to their shores and suffers from tariffs and obstacles including bias media, these millions of buyers choose Chinese EVs. So they know a lot lot lot more than you! That is for sure.

The issue I see with Chinese cars is a lack of parts and support for many vehicles in the future. The Chinese market has too many car companies producing too many cars. Those automakers often owe their suppliers for a year of parts. As the Chinese automakers consolidate into fewer makers their will likely be stranded suppliers that go out of business. If you buy a vehicle now that relies on parts made from an out of business supplier or automaker you won’t be able to fix things in the future.

CChinese cars had a shy entry when they first came to Egypt. Cars are insanely expensive here. Toyotas and Hondas- while considered economic cars in many countries- are considered luxurious cars here and the average Egyptian would never afford a brand new Corolla or Civic in a single lifetime. So Chinese manufactures landed here with good-looking cars with affordable prices. Many Chinese brands made a really big success here, just to mention some:

These are the most common Chinese car brands that you see in streets. You see them as private cars and taxis. They gained popularity over the past few years and overcame ‘market shyness’ to the extent that almost all of these brands flood the Egyptian market with more expensive cars, too. So they are not the poor man’s drive anymore.

Reliability-wise, I can’t say from personal experience, but I see 10-year old Chinese cars running on streets almost every day. Also, I know a friend who has a Brilliance FSV with mileage a bit over 500,000KMs and it is still running fine with regular maintenance.

I am a Chinese car owner since 7 years. Its Geely X7 CSUV and was bought in December 2013. Its done 175,000KM and never had an engine or transmission issue.

If you are talking about Chinese brands that are exporting their cars such as BYD or Geely or Geely or Great wall then I can say they are good quality.

What I have seen in cars from other famous brands such as Toyota and Honda, Geely is a bit lesser build quality but they are higher tech savvy. For example, here in KSA, a Toyota Rav4 with all additional options in 2wd drive will coat around 85,000 SAR whereas similar sized Chinese will cost you 65,000 SAR but will be overloaded with features such as wireless charging, sunroof, cruise control, steering mounted infotainment controls, automatic AC, seat warmers and coolers. While the Japanese counterpart will have better quality built engine, better spares availability, more options for aftermarket accessories and obviously better resale value.

Chinese cars are far better than American cars in case of crossovers but in sedan, its opposite somehow.
Generally speaking, majority of our items are being made in China and China has multiple scales of quality. You get what you pay for.

My opinion, if you or someone near you is looking to buy a Chinese car then go for it but look for spare parts availability and reliability of the company. In my view Geely is the best Chinese car brand but now i have started to see Changan and GAC a lot on the streets here.

I had a second hand Great Wall. A 2010 SUV model with 160K in millage. As a run around it was great.

It had all the bells and whistles; Cruise control, fold back seats, reverse camera, auto lights and windscreen wipers, electric seats etc. I paid around $2K US for it because I needed a run around with large space in the back. It sounds cheap, and it is but you must remember that a brand new GW SUV is still under $20K Australian. In comparison, a Honda CRV SUV with similar features would cost around $30K. A 2010 second hand CRV would at the time have cost around $9 K.

It was also cheap because the clear lacquer final coat had worn away and the paint was oxidising. A simple fix was to get the car “Wrapped” black which cost me $600 and it came up like new again.

Oddly enough the engine ran great. I was told that it was a Mitsubishi engine by a mechanic that was servicing it. It was reliable, smooth and never had any engine issues. They need to focus on the detail. Charge a little more and add more paint to the clear coat. Make the wheelbase a little wider or the roof a little lower for a better centre of gravity and have a better QC process.

No! I wouldn't buy one in the present or future! If I m buying a car it has to be new or old Japanese, German, French, lastly American muscle or British(not a big fan of newer British cars though). That is my personal choice!

The import cars are much more expensive than local manufacturing cars here in China.
Cause people consider that import cars have better quality especially for some famous brands like BENZ, AUDI, BMW.
So one thing happens here in China is that some local-made luxury brand’s car doesn’t have good quality.especially some core parts like engines, frxs,just couldn’t catch up with foreign standard.

Do you mean Chinese brand cars or cars produced in China? China is already building cars that meet the international high standards and are exporting these. For instance Honda is building cars in China for export.

Current Chinese brand cars can be of very good quality. It is all about the production volume (China is the biggest car market) and what price you are willing to pay. Low priced cars are not as good quality (but good enough for certain people) as German cars, but are significantly cheaper.

Any Chinese Buick is generally better built than the US build.
A BYD is as good as a Tesla, I will not expand upon that statement.
The Polestar 2 is a good quality Chinese car.
I would probably buy the Chinese MG over the Indian MG.
If I buy any car it is going to be somewhat fit for purpose, and last the warranty period. In my country there are still families that buy cars to last 40 years.
We never see older US-made BMW’s on the road. But also bear in mind that most brands are going to have Chinese content in them. VW and Mazda, say.

Of course, the era of western cars is over, literally. All of us including me used to think that Made in China is something that breaks and you will waste your money, and perhaps it was true for some time, but now, everything you own is manufactured in China, including the iphones you have, laptops and electronics and the rest. The moment China enetered a vehicle race, other companies became worried, and now you can see why, because they already took over.

For instance, if we are talking elecrtic, you have the premium Testa which costs a lot and is not just worth for the money. Now you have a couple of Chinese competitors, and the biggest one is BYD. The irony is that batteries for Teslas are manufactured by this Chinese company, and now they are making cars themselves. What you have is a wide range of products, and globally it's much more than for India where e-cars market is still deveoping, but when I was in China, I saw some sick models. To just make some comparisons, you can research the brand named Zeekr, and this is like an electric premium class Chinese car that absolutely smokes Tesla, and I am not talking about xiaomi car yet.

Talking about quality, it can be already said that quality of Chinese cards has long surpassed the rivals, and you can get a solid product for less price, and be happy. I have seen people who are driving Chinese electric cars for years and they have solid mileage on it, and they havent taken it into shop even once.

When they started out they were very ordinary but are getting better. In Australia we probably don't have as many Chinese brands like North America or Europe. Some manufacturers have supplied cars and then disappeared and that doesn't help but LDV,Great Wall any BYD definitely seem like they are going nowhere. Japanese started off badly and now the pick of the crop. I'm sure in time in the not to distant future that Chinese Manufacturing will be just as good.
