Health and fire warnings have been issued in countries across southern Europe, with temperatures expected to exceed 40C in some places over the weekend.
Italy, Greece, France, Spain and Portugal are among the countries affected - with the Spanish city of Seville forecast to hit 42C on Sunday.
Hot air from North Africa, which is spreading across the Balkans to holiday destinations such as Croatia, is contributing to the soaring temperatures.

The problem we have is because Most people always taught that" you only need a good job to become rich". These billionaires are operating on a whole other playbook that many don't even know exists.

Very strange how the BBC allowed the broadcast of hate speech at Glastonbury when they totally approved of two year sentences for that sort of thing on Facebook.

Never seems to snow anymore in winter. I can remember having to get a shovel to clear away snow to build a bonfire in late October. Now you can mow the grass in December. Something's not right.

I don't know if these temperatures are common in Europe. But I know how it makes us more tired than normal. Because I'm Brazilian. And whiten it's 30º C or more I feel so exhausted. When it's warm we need to care for our health.

In 1982 and 1983 I travelled around France in July, each time travelling about 2500kms. Both of these years were declared heat waves in France, the temperature about 28c daily not 40-44c. In 1939 the unperturbed French hailed their grand achievement the Maginot line as a solid line of defence against the Bosh. French it was, solid and a defence it was not. So thank goodness for the British and their scepticism.

It's winter here in Adelaide with overnight temperatures of 2C. Our houses are not designed to cope with cold. We need covered outdoor areas like verandas and umbrellas to cope with the heat. Extended weeks of high temperatures can be debilitating and it is essential to maintain fluid intake.

@nmd-007
Real problem is moisture though. It prevents sweat from getting vaporized, meaning that you won't cool down and will boil slowly. If you consistently sweat because of consistent heat, you will show symptoms like muscle cramps, muscle twitches, lack of adequate salt in the body, etc.

Damn. We live in an Amber alx of 30-33 degs C all 365 days of the year as that temp is normal for us here in the Caribbean and no one is dropping dead here. 25 degs C is too cold for us here. I wonder why you guys flock to the dangerously hot Caribbean for your holidays. Maybe you all have a death wish from heatstroke.
@captainbuggernut9565
Indeed. They need to change the way they behave. We all do. The Med is about 20% ahead of the rest of us. What you see there will arrive with you soon. Practical steps. More trees, more water bodies, less tarmac, houses with light coloured roofs. More overhangs, hedgerows. More marsh land. All of it lowers the peak temperatures locally, where you live. Fewer heat sources, ie cars etc. In China they replaced a motorway with trees and a stream. The temperatures dropped locally by 4 degrees.

i live in Indiana,. its already been a bit warmer as of now,. but i remember my college physics classes: HEAT CAPACITY :Heat capacity is the amount of energy (typically measured in Joules or calories) required to raise the temperature of a substance by a certain amount (usually one degree Celsius or Kelvin). It's an intrinsic property of matter that reflects how much thermal energy a substance can store. Essentially, it indicates (there are cooling foods like : cucumber and melon,.and spicy foods actually cool your body,.)
