China's "intelligent mines" are getting rid of truck drivers and diesel fuel
China's first intelligent mine opened in Inner Mongolia, at a large open-pit coal mine.
The mining company deployed a fleet of one hundred fully autonomous electric trucks.
Huawei built a 5.5G network and designed algorithms specifically for open-pit coal mines, with localized maps. As a result, the smart trucks operate at 120% efficiency compared to human operators.
As more intelligent mines come online and electrify, enormous savings in fuel costs will be realized. Diesel fuel typically accounts for up to half of all operating costs for mining operations; mining trucks consume up to 100 liters (30 gallons) of fuel per hour, and overland fuel transport and storage in remote areas drive capital investment needs higher.

Perhaps someday leaders around the world will accept that China is a country to emulate and that healthy relationships are worth supporting. China is SO FAR AHEAD in so many areas... they have much to teach us. Your content is brilliant Kevin. Thank you.

They already did, the European Enlightenment drew a lot of concepts from Confucianism. Problem is they didn't fully grasp Confucianism and created a flawed version that gave them temporary advantages at the expense of the long term.

I worked on automated, driverless mine and port trucks 30 years ago at Motorola. AGVs have been a big deal in industry for several decades due to the labor savings and safety. If a robot gets squished, shrug. A dead worker means investigation, paperwork, fines.

In US, the labor unxs would not allow the use of robots to replace their jobs. One might ask how about Chinese workers. Are they protected from losing jobs from robots? The answer is that they are retained to do other jobs (probably higher pay) before their jobs are replaced.

@yawn369
This is the start of a worrying trend of replacing workers by robots: Replacement of workers with robots will eventually cause an economic contraction and social crisis. Robots don’t consume. The displaced workers will also lack the means to remain consumers. So, as robots replace more humans, they also destroy demand and eventually will cause market failure by demand destruction

In america, just like the ports, the workers will protest against any automation if their pay is high. Cause that will make their jobs irrelevant which is part of the high cost. And politicians want those votes hence why it will never be upgraded. Partly also unxs will fight to stop any automation

I don't believe those trucks are recharged by solar cells. What they probably do is to recharge those trucks by an electricity-generating plant which is fueled by coal from the mine itself. In this way, the mining operation provides its own energy forever.

I guess it's a comprehensible fear. In the west, machines work for billionaires only, not for every member of the company. It's the owners of the tech who people fear, not the tech.
