Trump/Dode fired 400 FAA staff in March including the head of the agency.   That's when we started with all these massive problems including the crash that killed 67 in Washington DC.  Newark airport was working with only 4 air traffic controllers instead of 10 when the first incident happened.  Who allows them to work such a high pressure, high stakes job while SO UNDERSTAFFED????  They have to work 6 days a week, 10 hr days.   3000 ATC vacancies in the US.    So, you have chronic staffing problems, poor morale b/c people getting fired,  massive overscheduling of fliights at major airports b/c airlines want to make more money.   Now a crisis b/c politicans never addressed the problem.   Cut government spending, starve the beast (Ronald Regan??) and this is what you get.   Is America great yet?

That's what you get for not taking these people's jobs seriously, they obviously need to not be understaffed which raises stress levels and difficulty of a job that is already stressful enough for anyone. Typical American under-staffing, because we have to make our rich masters richer.

This issue is another example of how the country's infrastructure has been breaking down for decades.  Reason would tell you that we should not be only dependent of air travel, but for decades that industry and gas  companies have lobbied against high speed rail.  That's why we find ourselves here.  For instance, Spain has 3 different companies that offer 4 different high speed trains, two of them are low cost.  If you can't fly for x or y reason, you take the high speed train.  Europe as a whole is very well connected through rail not only through air.  Interesting, that a country that brags about choices we only have air travel or you drive yourself some place.  It's ridiculous.

As much as I loathe Trump, the airports have been a complete mess for years and none of the past administrations, including Trump in his last term, did anything real to help. This was bound to happen. Then Trump cuts funds and expects it to get better...this country is embarrassing.

Small correction. The air traffic control equipment is available to buy from stores. Just not in US. But the US won’t go to say China or the EU for 2 reasons, namely national pride and national security. They will be willing to wait tens of years and spend 5x the amount more, but these 2 reasons will always be cited as to why it wasn’t done earlier.

So this old system had one outage in November and then nothing for months.  But then doge made massive cuts in the FAA including massive cuts to maintenance workers and this old system keep outing like a couple of weeks.  Maybe there is a connection with the frequency of the outages and the doge cuts.
