I had to take a flight recently. Shunned Air India for this reason only. Every. Fkn. Time. There is some maintenance issue or other. Happy to spend that extra 3-4 hours for a better travel experience.

Nowhere near as severe as needing to turn back planes. And that dysfunction was used to hand over air India to tatas for far less than what it was worth. If you've flown in air India in the last year, you might have got a vistara branded plane with a clogged toilet and nonfunctiobal screens. Staffing and procedures for vistarta are still separate, so you can't blame that on air India

I flew Air India for the first time this past new years. Never again!Killed 3 cockroaches that were lurking near my seat. Boarding and onboard service was a shit show. Business and first class seats were broken. Sigh, so many friends warned me and I thought it couldn’t be that bad. It was!The food was nice!

I too flew on Air India recently. I'm extremely disappointed. The entertainment system didn't work, the seat didn't recline. As it's a packed flight I could not move to another seat, I wrote a complaint to air India, as I had faced a similar issue with British airways once and they gave me £100 worth coupon, but Air India just said sorry for the inconvenience and nothing else.

Flew business in Air India too. It was a complimentary upgrade. Would never pay for that or suggest anyone to. They changed the boarding gate thrice and the aircraft twice before finally boarding us. The business class seats were broken and had a lot of wear and tear. Food was crap too.

Air India does not have basic management.

Indian passengers are awful but that specific aircraft is more toxic than Chernobyl. It’s basically held together by dust. Air India are the assholes here through and through. I’ve flown this same flight a few times, it is not uncommon for the flight to take off with 2 bathrooms not working. There is no hygiene, made astronomically worse by the gavar behaviour of our traveling brethren. Seats are broken, the entertainment system doesn’t work. Easy for Air India to blame passengers than accept that aircraft is done and they need to replace it stat.
Air India has the best time slot for this sector, usually charges the highest amount and is undoubtedly the worst flight experience. I’ve taken other flights to India with other airlines and only Air India is the experience utterly shambolic. Tatas have had enough time now, this on them.

Thank you. Logic eludes most bloodthirsty commenters here. Everyone wants to shit on the Tatas (pun not intended). No one is talking about the sophisticated set of passengers that Indians are. Great civic sense.Poor Tatas should not have taken over this liability of a brand where they don’t even stand to profit. Indians don’t deserve anything good.

What I didn't understand is why did they have to fly back 5 hours to origin instead of flying to the nearest major airport along the route. I'm pretty sure after 5 hrs of flying it would have been much closer to Manchester or London or any other European airport where AI would have big enough ground operation to take care of the problem.

The crew in air India are so entitled. They don't want to clean bathroom.They keep one passenger bathroom locked for themselves. That's clean af.You go to emirates, klm or other airlines. The crew is cleaning bathrooms every 4 to 8 hours.

I get that it's fashionable to bash the govt on this sub, and in a lot of cases I agree. But this is not one. It's a good thing the govt got out of air india. I flew from Delhi to dubai and it felt i was back in the 90s.Carpet floors and the seats were yuck. There was this general smell in the air. And as usual, majority of the flight’s entertainment systems werent working.And the entire flight was filled with labours coming to dubai, so had one guy watching old tiktoks behind me until i told the air hostess to tell him to reduce volume. And the guy sitting behind my dad was like why do we care about something in punjabi.The charger wasnt working even though the lights were on.The staff however was very sweet.Overall- ill fly emirates anyday lol. Even the fares are almost the same.

Passengers have plenty of time to evacuate their unreliable as Indian government bowels at home before going to the airport or even at the airport while waiting but Noooooooo, everybody makes a beeline for the toilets as soon as the plane is airborne. Plenty of advise out there how to eat less before and during long flights and keep hydrated but free shitty food and snacks are not going to eat themselves and the parathas and heavy stuff brought onboard has to be dumped out of the gut into the toilets. I just traveled from Amritsar to Delhi on a flight that was returning from Dubai or something. Man it was the worst flight I've ever seen one. The wings have no paint on them and rusty patches on the aluminum. Scared the shit out of me. I mean who would not paint the airplane wings? Are they really that much in cash crunch that they will let an international flight fly like that?Tbf, the air hostesses were dressed very formally and were courteous. Rest of the plane...not so much.

Toilets do not clog themselves. Especially in different parts of a large airplane. What the hell are Indian passengers doing? Maybe all Indians need to study for and pass a mandatory personal responsibly and public decorum test before qualifying to purchase a ticket.
