Forbes list is irrelevant but India is not as powerful as Indians believe it to be.
(1) The GDP might be high but revenue and budget is lower than similar economies.
(2) It's spending power is further reduced by having to service it's huge population.
(3) It's military equipment is severely old and lacking. Old soviet era/Russian equipment has already shown to be failures in Ukraine war.
(4) Low resources per capita means it's very import dependent and incapable of holding it's own in a major war if supplies are cutoff.
(5) It's main exports, IT services, is under threat with AI.

India does have good equipment...but just not a very good airforce.
Indian Navy is quite decent, capable to protecting Indian interests.
Army have decent tech too... decent artillery (a bit limited thou) and really good rocket launching batteries.
We really need a 5th gen fighter aircraft...I really think India should team up with the Japs and the koreans to develop a fighter together.
Also Russia Ukraine war is a bit unique ...At best India has to prepare for a 90 day war.....

Tanks are Russian too. Like 90+% of them. The army gear is mid at best. There has been no good indigenous jet engines. The ships and aircraft carriers don't match up to china let alone US.
India needed to have had massively pushed for science and research. It is too late for that now. It needs to massively build up infrastructure for AI. Most research and labour will be greatly augmented by or be entirely AI in the medium to long term future.

I have talked to people in my father’s village recently and they are super happy and lazy for getting free ration every month which started during covid. Forbes is making a statement that India can be ignored. Even if they were doing it intentionally (which is very likely) possibly due to some kind of editorial bias, the fact that they could do it in a way they wouldn't with China or Russia speaks volumes.
It's a very effective way of putting it, and I hope it will bring some self-reflection in our policy circles. **I see this as a very positive thing.** There is a saying in my language on the importance of humility: water only collects in low-lying areas. But we do the exact opposite: we believe in fictions of national prominence that we weave to protect our fragile egos and beat our chests. It makes us look silly when the reality is all around for us to see. But more importantly, it gives us false assurances of progress when we are not indeed progressing, preventing effective action.
We have to just keep working at the fundamentals that will acquire for us more power and prosperity. Ignore the noise. Put in the work where it matters. That is all that is required.
**By the way, notice that this ranking** ***itself*** **reduces India's power in international circles.** A great deal of power has to do with perception - you are powerful if others see you as powerful - and this article tells the world that India is not powerful. This will have ramifications for India's dealings with other countries.

India will become powerful only when we increase export and have greater soft power.
When we have a strong regional economic eco-system that isn't much affected by external entities (war, inflation etc). I don't mean we have to close doors - this means we should also be self sustainable to a good extent.
This includes promoting regional services, creating employment opportunities within and across states.
If we take example from EU, every state has their own eci system functioning in theirr regional language (education, services, IT, engineering). They also interact with other Countries within EU.
In India all the white collar (IT) jobs are somehow lixed to English. We aren't really focusing on creating a local ecosystem and employment opportunities.

High time it happened. The high GDP is only because we have billions and trillions in population, most of which are not even good enough for biofuel.
A 3rd world agricultural economy which totally skipped manufacturing and went into services and they somehow run the nation's economy.

To be honest, do not believe in these ratings. They are biased and meant to downgrade the countries who are not supporting the West. I mean yeah it might not be as strong but in general I'm saying these ratings are totally illogical.
