Poor people are treated like garbage, if they’re lucky
The police aren’t there to stop crime, they’re there to treat poor people like garbage. As such, no-one trusts them. It’s like not calling the fire department when there’s a fire because their fire hoses are full of gasoline.
There aren’t enough judicial resources available for all the criminals that are caught.
Judges and prosecutors are all politicians, not independent officers of the court. So are some law enforcement officers (Sheriffs).
No-one wants to address root causes of crime like deep poverty, mental illness, and lack of educational opportunities.
The prison system is good at one thing - creating better criminals. You certainly aren’t going to learn any socially useful skills in there.
I could go on, but those are the basics.

Why is the crime rate so high in the USA?
First of all, the overall crime rate has been dropping for decades.
But more importantly, the vast majority of the crime in this country occurs in a handful of inner city neighborhoods where gang/drug activity is out of control. Outside of those areas, the average citizen sees a crime rate equal to or lower than the “enlightened” European countries.
And we can’t get it under control because those areas are controlled by politicians who view criminals as victims and victims as criminals.

But the greatest crimes are at the very top of the pile! And in allowing the Democrats back into power, they have effectively said, ‘hey, we’re happy with the swamp of corrupt politics’!
Day in day out, crime is growing and growing, exponentially with the loud vocal minority of liberals who are too busy thinking they’re the righteous answer to everything. Except all they are really achieving is shitting in their own nest! As soon as the stench starts to infiltrate into their leafy suburbia, or up the hill, they might just realise they really are the enemy within!

The US crime rate is rising exponentially. Big cities are breaking records every single day. All types of crimes are rising, the most alarming being the murder rates. Every single weekend numerous young black men are having their lives extinguished by other young black men. We are losing some very bright stars due to gang violence. It is time to call in the National Guard in every major city to put this down. Local police are stretched too thin to make a real difference. It is a National disgrace, and must be stopped.

A better answer is why has the violent crime rate dropped by more than half over the last fifty years.
There has been an alarming uptick in murder in the last two years, but not the overall crime rate. The 1990 violent crime rate was 758.2 per 100,000, and in 2019 the rate was 366.7 per 100,000. Figures from Statista, a reliable source.

I think it’s obvious that the suicide rate and the death by overdose rate are closely related, both being up sharply. The closures and economic problems caused by the pandemic are part of it, as is economic desperation. Despite the economy roaring along now, there are still millions fewer jobs than there were prior to the pandemic, and tens of millions of people are facing eviction because they cannot pay mortgages and rents.
There’s a lot of misinformation about these kinds of topics. For example, most people think the divorce rate is increasing, when the divorce rate has steadily been dropping for fifty years, and more marriages are broken by death than by divorce.

The height of the crime rate is due to the high percentage of criminals as a percentage of the population.
The high percentage of criminals in the population is due to the high number of people who grow up feeling alienated from the general society.
Understanding the many reasons such a significant minority of the population grows up feeling alienated from the general population would require the services of historians, sociologists, anthropologists, ethnologists, etc.

Is there actually that much crime in the USA or is the crime that does happen so over reported when compared to historical practices that the USA appears to have a large amount of crime?
I say that because all of the statistics I have come across pretty clearly state that crime in the USA is the lowest it has been in a long time and still trending downward. High crime is a lie told by some politicians in an attempt to use the belief that crime rates are high to gain power.

Why?
Because we glorify and romanticize violence. Our video games and movies are filled to the brim with very bloody violence, even as we demonize sex. Guns are fine but genitals are unimaginably bad. We can never have enough violence in media.
Because we have enshrined guns in the holy light of the 2nd amendment, we do not have enough sensible gun-control legislation. We need that amendment, but it needs updating for the 21st century.
Meanwhile, children are not disciplined as well as they used to be (and I do not mean abuse). Children get what they want and often run the household, thereby growing up to be self-centered, with a sense that everything should be handed to them.
Lastly, hard drugs (not marijuana) are a major problem. We have a huge segment of the population ready to kill at the blx of an eye if they think they can steal a few dollars to buy another pill or two.
And there is no end in sight to any of this (as evidenced by comments below). Nothing will change until public opinion swings the other way.

They have not. From the peak 60s-70s all crime has been on a steep decline, with a few year or two slight bumps. 2021 is WAY safer to live in the USA than 1971. The data from the FBI and other gov’t stats is clear. Claims to the contrary are not based on facts.
