Dai and Zhuang (in Guangxi-Zhuang) are the larget minority in China, they speak the same language family as Thai Laos, Shan (largest minority in Myanmar) and Ahom in India (probably lost their root already) in Thailand we call them Tailue, there are Thailue community in Thailand mostly in Northern provinces, their culture and language is more similar to northern Thai since they used to be own Kingdom (Lanna) and sister Kingdom with abovementioned cities. xishuangbanna (aka "12,000 land of rice fields" in Thai) is home of the ethnic "Xuang", whose culture is somewhat similar to the northern Thai. They do not have their own written language and used Chinese in writing. Thai people can partially communicate with the "Xuang" but in ancient words. They have same culture of building houses, Buddhism as well as Songkran festival but the different way compare to Thailand. FYI.
