Congrats on hitting 100k subscribers! I've just been in the region last October checking out ancient relics and buildings preserved in the mountains. Definitely fascinating and unique, this part of Zhejiang/Fujian (and where isn't in China, besides the concrete-printed parts of the big cities?).  I gather now that you must have finished the task on site - the 14th century Shisi Temple not far from Qingyuan is a gem. Also the ancient covered bridges - there are just too many and impossible to cover all, as the mountain roads are so time consuming!

@gordkao  The one Katherine visited is already a tourist destination. I gather it's the flow of revenue that helped to keep the abandoned houses standing.
The point is there are just too many such villages in the region - or in China in general - and not enough drive to make every one of them a tourist destination. And these particular villages in southern Zhejiang aren't very accessible - pull out Google Maps with terrain on, you'll realize even with all the freshly built paved roads connecting the most remote corners to the grid, the mountains make sure it's still hours to get from point A to B.

I love mushrooms so every time I get dried mushrooms at a Chinese grocery store I will be thinking about Mr. Wu thanks to your documentary about him in the mountains. I have petted pet mice before at pet stores so don’t think I would eat mice but these people are very resourceful and I can’t believe the high price of mountain mice. Love the camera work and the drone footage! Looks like a professional documentary!

Beautiful drone footage! The mountains of China have such a sense of majesty to them.
It's so cool seeing how people react to you in these rural communities. It must be quite rare for foreign-born travelers to pass through their village, but they treat you as one of their own all the same.

It's very thoughtful that concrete houses down below 'clad' the walls with mud to match / harmonise with those historic houses up the hill . And the scenery just so calming.

What a beautiful village and scenery. 700 year history…Wow! This is an Eastern version of some near abandoned villages in Italy. I do hope some of these villages get preserved. I love the details that you’ve captured - the woven hat and cloak hanging on the wall, the kitchen, the alters, slogans on the walls, the outhouse bathroom, etc). These old ways of living, as hard as they were, are a testament to the resilience and perseverance of the people who lived there. I love that you have such an incredibly open mind! You are willing to deep diving and try the local cuisine and delicacies, like rat. Maybe it’s like rabbit or Guinea pig?!? I thoroughly enjoyed watching this village tour. Well done!

China is blessed with all the natural environments found elsewhere in the world, ranging from Arctic weather in the north to tropical weather in the south.  It has breath-taking sceneries of deserts, vast plains, mountains, valleys, rivers, temperate forests and tropical rain forests.  There is a living environment to suit everyone's taste.  Why would anyone wish to emigrate abroad when they could find their ideal environment in China?  The grass is definitely not greener on the other side.

This vlog really reminds me of a chinese drama called Minning town. And usually when people in that rural village if they don't relocate to the city but build a sturdy better house than the old one, local govt will subsidized the house.

广西这边吃竹鼠，不吃其他老鼠，山鼠也不吃。竹鼠只吃竹子，所以感觉比较干净。在八十年代之前，比较贫穷，有吃田鼠的，后来富裕了就不吃了。不过肯定不是家鼠。家鼠太脏了。

Mountain mice are foods for some southern areas of China as well as in Vietnam. Ethnic Miao (苗族) have the dish of roasting mountain mice. In Northern Vietnam, where the people's ethnic group is very close to Ethnic Miao, they also have the tradition of roasting mountain mice.

In Chinese, "鼠" refers to both mice and rats. Considering the size of the "mice" is about 1 pound for each, I think the animal may acutually be the "rats" rather than mice.

Holy crap! The drone shot piercing down thorough cloud cover felt like you were piloting your own plane sensation. I was pondering how much insulation the self built hut offers then charcoal stove question came into view, better than dying from CO poisoning, hahaha. The dirthouse life on offer is too primitive.
I don't know if this village is in close proximity to Fujian province, their accent  surprised me.

It is super close to fujian , I was very tempted to bring my bike down there and make a bike tour out of it but I’ve been too busy with work lately LOL . It offers very little insulation but you also won’t get CO poisoning because of the huge gaps in the wall

在福建的内陆山区和视频里的环境接近，其中闽西也有吃田里老鼠和竹林老鼠的传统。
因为这些地方山地纵横，建国前，连铁路都没有，千古不争之地。不适合种植粮食，缺乏蛋白质。直到万历年，从菲律宾引进番薯，才有效解决荒年问题。
现在到这些地方，一年四季水果、山珍、漂流、探洞...可以玩的东西太多了。而且基本每个城市都通了高铁。
目前正在建设纵横几千公里的绿道，跟着几千年形成的官道去远足，道路网络覆盖整个南方。

It’s mostly going to be shared by some news outlets and environmental organizations on wechat and douyin, it’s not super accessible unfortunately . and I can’t post it here since my colleague who I filmed it with doesn’t want the exposure on a large-scale YT or bilibili account . She’s in this vid too but requested her face be cut out of all the shots she’s in, but I can’t do that with the mushroom documentary, she’s one of the “main characters” so to speak
