Sorry but that's not bad PR. Cairo has so much potential but it is genuinely terrible for tourists, especially only female tourists. I'm not even talking about something extreme but the amount of harassment for female tourists is just awful.

I’ve visited Egypt (or should I say Misr) as a tourist as somebody who lives in the US about 5 times in the last 5-6 years. Egypt is amazing and has so much potential. But every time I go I have to mentally prepare for the touts. It’s draining and a huge problem. Even their “tourist police” is useless since they’re all in the scams. If they ever solve that, it’d be one of the best countries in the world for tourism. But I’m not hopeful.

Egypt has a lot of tourists because its history is iconic but the peak tourism was in the 90s/2000s and declined after the Egyptian revolution killed the craze and because the country was unstable. Now it's stable again but the country has a bad reputation because government is shitty and the cities are extremely overpopulated neglected and full of slums and a lot of the desperate people try to harass tourists for money.
Egypt doesn't have to be some advance country but i swear to god if Egypt just had the same development level as Jordan they would have 5 times as many tourists.
And as for Jordan. Jordan is a chill country overall but its not particularly famous and there isn't a lot to do. It's the safest and most stable levantine country but also the most boring. Usually its a "day trip" so tourists will go to Israel or Egypt for a week then go to Jordan for 1 or 2 days to see Petra. For things to improve they need to market the living shit out of all the other tourist sites so people stay longer.

If Algeria opens up more to tourism, it could potentially either "steal" a chunk of tourists from other neighbouring/similar countries or even boost tourism in the Mediterranean region.

Jordan and Palestine. Jordan barely have any of the third world issues like overcrowdness ,scamming ,rude attitude,and behaving like chimps in front of women. Palestine is like Jordan + holy sites in East Jerusalem and West Bank.
