Didn't Al Jazeera have something like this on? They showed a couple people who wanted to volunteer but decided not to because the contract they would have to sign didn't explain when they would be allowed to leave Ukraine.

In terms of amounts spent, the Russian military are far more advanced in comparison to US than spending would make it appear. If you fail at the military equipment supplied, you will pay real penalties for fraud in Russia, severe penalties apply, the industries are tied to government and the profits margins are a fraction of US profit margins on poorly made on purpose equipment that needs upxes and replacement.
Just consider the modern Russia battle tank, three crew down in the hull to protect them, the Russian government considers them skilled soldiers, that need to be protected not replaceable conscxts, using the latest equipment, not stuff designed as poorly as possible to generate as much profit as possible in necessary upgrades.
The Ukrainians are using them as cannon fodder to ramp up the death count on purpose to make the Russians look bad, that is really nasty corrupt stuff.
Well, if you let volunteers go, people who like to fight in wars, you can reduce violence at home, a social evolutionary adjustment for a less violent future, there is humor in there, quite wry sour humor but it is in there ;).
