If this is truly a local custom in a Chinese wedding, I will respect it.

Odd but great to know that such traditions are still in place and active.  With modernization, all these will disappear no matter which country''s tradition it may be, sad but very true.  For me, enjoy them while we have the privilege to see them from afar.  I am in Singapore and seeing this in China, unless i am there and attending such a wedding, i would not know such a tradition exists!....  Time waits for no one, so enjoy them as you encounter them :) :).. For those that don’t understand why some older generations doing this is because at the time there was little to no food growing up during their generation. They see food as a luxury, heard stories from my parents/grandparents generation growing up that food was hard to come by.

In mexico we have a funny tradition at birthday parties, where the person blowing out the candles get their face pushed into the cake, it smashes the cake and it gets all over their face. People who dont know are shocked, but its just for fun, the idea is that people shouldnt take themselves too seriously. At most parties, they buy a cheap cake for smashing and a nice one for eactually eating and serving the guests.
My point is that some traditions are rowdy and fun, going a little crazy is fun, and if thats what the stew was brought out for, then thats the point, i bet its fun if youre there
