Pasta!
Italians are notorious for judging pasta from other countries... particularly concerning cooking time (it's usually considered that people in other countries overcook it) and what kind of sauce they put on it!
 
（意）意大利人因为喜欢评判其他国家的意面而臭名昭著…尤其是烹饪时间的掌握（他们通常会认为其他国家的人煮过头了），以及配哪种酱汁！
 
Italians usually have no problem buying whatever cheapest pasta brand is available. Although the base quality still tends to be good.
I think they're way fussier about pizza. Bad pizza is a huge no.·

Yes,I agree on the brands .. most people don't really care about that. Most pasta here is good quality, not many people care in my experience who produces their pasta.
People are much fussier about cooking times.
Not only with foreigners either.My parents in law are often discussing whether the pasta is over or under cooked, even at home!
There are also people obsessed with the shape, and having the right shape with the right sauce.

Other people will insist on the 'right' type of pasta for a certain recipe,or with a particular sauce.So for example in my region,oven baked pasta should be made only with small rings (anelletti).If it is made with any other pasta,its not 'authentic'.
Then you will find small towns a few miles from each other who will use a particular pasta,different from the next town.Or practically the same pasta but with a different name.
 
（回）其他人则会坚持某个特定的食谱要用“正确”品类的意面，或是要用特定的酱汁。比如说我所在的地区，用烤箱烘烤的意面只能用小圈（Anelletti）面来做。如果是用其他任何一种意面做的，那就是“不正宗”。
然后你会发现相隔几英里的小镇都会使用和隔壁小镇不同的某种特殊的意面，或者，其实是同样的面条，只是叫法不同。
 


Pizza is more about topping: there are topping which are acceptable, and others which are not; but pizza is not the same everywhere in Italy: I guess that a Neapolitan would regard Roman pizza as inferior, whilst everyone outside of Naples would eat it (I love it personally). Also we don't have much of a problem eating casually "normal" slices, it's not that every pizza has to come from a Neapolitan restaurant.

I'm not Italian but I travelled there. In my experience the main difference was the crust.
The Roman one is more crunchy and easy to split in slices. Usually thiner.
The Neapolitan one is way softer and fluffy and you kinda has to use folk and knife because it is harder to grab or slice.

tbh, we also tend to judge each other, especially north vs south.
A few years ago a famous chef (think he was on Masterchef or something) from Milan presented an experimental pizza margherita and charged something like 10x what would cost in Naples. He was put on the trial by the supreme court of the social media.

Like the the Chinese Invented noodles and they spread to rest of Asia centuries ago and are now very much dishes in their own right in that cuisine.
Like no Chinese will say ramen, Laksa , Pad Thai or Laghman noodles are inferior.

Same with pasta - It’s spread to many countries and has been part of their cuisine for centuries. Like pastitsio been a Greek dish since the 16th century id say it’s very much a Greek dish and they know how to cook it best.
It be like North Africans saying Sicilian couscous isn’t authentic, even though it’s been a thing in Sicily for a 1000yrs.

There's a particular way to pour, a particular height of head, no bubbles in the head, HAS to be either in a Guinness glass or classic pint glass.

I remember working in a pub in London pouring the 'interim' step of pints of Guinness, putting them on the bar to let the customers watch the pint settle (as Guinness drinkers in Ireland like to do), before finalising the pints and serving. Customers kept taking the pints away, assuming they were done because they were on the bar...had to unlearn my Irish barman habits.

Studied in Lyon, France for a bit. Decided to go to an Irish pub in town, ordered a Guiness for the first time, grabbed the glass way earlier, and got scolded by the Irish bartender. Learnt a lesson that night to wait for Guiness to settle lol

Anyways... if you've ever seen someone post about "Swedish meatballs" from some other country you've probably also seen the comments like "that's the wrong sauce", "there's supposed to be a brown sauce", "cranberry sauce? where's the lingonberry jam?", "there should be pressgurka".

I think you are only half right about the bread. While I try to buy only "real" bread from real bakers, most of he people I know rather buy their "bread" at the supermarket or from huge chains like Kamps (which I'd rather not refer to as bakers).

Aside from football, gossip, and politics, I'd say one of the things Spain wastes more time arguing about is paella. By default, when peoplen talk about it they are normally thinking of the one from Valencia1, and we have become increasingly fussy about what that means. So much so that the Valencian Community government has even given their seal of approval to an official, standardized recipe that restaurants have to follow in order to be able to say they are selling a real, traditional Valencian paella. Among other things it cannot contain neither shellfish nor chorizo, the latter being something you see in a lot of versions done by foreigners, and which is mocked mercilessly by Spaniards2. As a result of this argument people started to criticize recipes that deviated from the standard by saying "it's not paella, it's just rice with things", and now "rice with things" is a full-blown meme that has been appropiated by rice brands to make funny TV ads.
 
（西）我觉得除去足球、八卦和政治，西班牙人浪费了更多时间去争论的东西之一就是西班牙海鲜饭了。当人们谈论它时，正常情况下他们会默认自己说的是瓦伦西亚的海鲜饭。

1 - Actually there are a lot of different traditional rice dishes from the Mediterranean region that are similar and as good or better than the Valencian paella but for some reason it's this one that become popular.
2 - Funny story: the original paella was a peasant dish that people made with whatever ingredients they had around, so a hundred years ago it was pretty normal to eat it with chorizo, ribs, eel, and other stuff nowadays would be inconceivable.

Bread for sure, I mean if there is one French word known around the world, it is "Baguette" and you don't fuck with it. Cheese would also be on the list, low quality cheese served at dinner would absolutely ruin it.

In the UK, absolutely nothing. There are no standards for food here at all. I've travelled around Europe enough to notice how schools, universities, workplaces and even train stations abroad have better, healthier food options than the UK.
Of course there are restaurants, but I'm talking about the vast majority of food served to people on a daily basis.
 
在英国，那是绝对没有的。这里的人对食品的品质根本就没有标准可言。我走遍了欧洲，注意到国外的学校、大学、工作场所甚至火车站的食物选择，都比英国的更美味、更健康。

Quite simply it stems from low standards. People up and down the country think the likes of McDonalds or Dominos is actually quality food. London is somewhat different probably because of many people from abroad, but the rest of England especially is embarrassing. This is also the country where MPs regularly vote against free school meals for children.
And yet it won't change because English people by and large have no standards.
 
原因也很简单，都是源于低下的标准。在英国，从北到南的人是真心相信麦当劳或多米诺之类的食物是优质的食物。伦敦的情况略有不同，可能是因为那里有很多来自国外的人，但英格兰的其他地方特别让人难堪。而议员们经常投票反对学校为儿童提供免费餐饭的，也是我们这个国家。
然而，情况是不会改变的，因为英国人总的来说没有标准可言。
