Why would I want to do that? Fuel is more expensive, they have a woke Prime Minister, grocery stores are allowed to not sell food to people who haven’t complied with medical tyranny, they can’t carry guns, i mean the list of reasons I won’t move there is almost endless. Born and raised in Canada, spent practically all of my life here. It’s very much a neutral place, there are some of the nicest people you can meet up here; and others who might not respect others as much, there’s a wide variety just like any country.
Canada is also a big country, full of various regions; so I’ve noticed the demeanour and attitudes of people can change depending on the province or city you’re in. I’ve been living in a smaller town in British Columbia for a decade and while there are lots of nice people here, I’ve just found a lot of people here hard to connect with and that’s why I’m planning to move out of here.
A few years ago I took a vacation to Washington and I really enjoyed it, for the record it seemed practically indistinguishable from the Canadian cities I’ve lived in all my life. Very little difference except for a border. The people I met in Washington were very kind and interesting to talk to, a lot of them were very open and willing to walk up and be friendly towards you. But of course, I’ve only been to Washington and that’s definitely not representative of the entire United States.

Many of us here look around us at the thing that you mention and reflect that, sadly, any improvement in our own condition is unlikely to occur except by way of spillover from the U.S. That’s how far gone we are.
This country is basically finished: it’s in the middle of a weird “woke” commie-style takeover, killing off all of its key industries, and so on. Another 5–10 years and it probably won’t be livable, at this rate.
So don’t move here.

I have a friend that was born in Peru, and came to Canada as a 6 year old child adopted by Canadian parents.
He married a Filipina woman 10 years ago in the Phillipines, and he owns a business there. He has three children with her. He returned to Canada in 2018 to open another business here in Canada. He has applied to have his family join him in Canada just to visit, but Immigration officials fear that the family will try to stay beyond their visitor’s visa. There is no danger of her even wanting to remain here, as they have a business and a home bought and paid for in the Phillipines.
He has been engaged in a battle with government officials for three years trying to get a resolution to this, with no success.

Why would I even want to live in Canada?I’m sure Canada’s beautiful. Too cold for me for starters. I’m sure the people are great for the most part. Just like here in the U.S. My job pays for my healthcare plan, very little out of pocket if I do get sick, $20.00 to see my Dr. Very low prescxtion cost $15.00. Most I’d pay for serious illness or hospitalization is $7,500. For the most part Canada isn’t much different than the U.S, that I can see. Gas is a lot higher than here. Housings higher than where I live. Have a friend that moved here from Canada 40 years ago and he swears it’s better here. He’s a U.S. citizen now. I’m sure Canada’s a great country but I’m very happy living in the U.S. I’d never live anywhere else. Well, unless Trump the Felon was somehow really-elected. Then maybe I’d move.

Clothing, speech, mannerisms, etc. His conclusion is that the two neighbors are far more similar than different. There's plenty of anti vaxxers where I live, they're free to shop where they please as long as they wear a mask. The vaccine passports are for restaurants and bars and closed spaces so you can prove you're not an infection risk while you eat or drink unmasked. That's so people like me, who are vaccinated but have chronic respiratory ailments may still have some quality of life. Our gas is so expensive because out West where I live they sell the refined tar sands oil to American refineries at $14 US a barrel. The Americans distill it into gasoline and very kindly sell it back to us. Big price difference there, then there's taxes added that go to infrastructure maintenance and repair. As far as guns go, until free trade opened our borders wide in the 90s gun crime was fairly rare here, so rare many police officers went their entire careers without seeing one used in a crime or drawing their own. Guns are tools and you can own several if you like, you just have to prove you know how to handle and care for them properly. It's sort of a more formal version of NRA training courses. We just haven't seen open carry as a necessity here. I support gun owners because I haven't met one yet that alarmed me and I think it's just a hobby or like I said, a tool you need for protection from wildlife on a farm or ranch. As for our PM being woke, he's in a minority government so he won't push too hard on that.

We have a left of centre govt and PM. Personally I prefer that to right wing.
Yes there are some restrictions for Covid in terms of vaccinated v non, but I don’t believe there is any restriction for grocery stores except requiring masks and social distancing in the store, which to me is just common sense.
And yes there is a difference in our attitude towards guns. But then we don’t need to carry guns for self defence.

Mexico is closer and the people more hospitable.

Much, much higher income taxes in Canada. This is the biggest deal-breaker.
The only reasons I can see somebody from the states moving to Canada is because the politics are a little less unruly, or they have family ties there. I don’t care about politics and don’t know anybody in Canada, so none of those two apply to me. It’s nothing personal, I wouldn’t mind visiting you folks up there some time. But I’ll probably never leave the US.

As a kid when we lived in NY, we would travel there although I honestly don't remember it as i was too young. The truth is, that if i were to leave the US for travel, i wouldn't want to go to somewhere that is too familiar to the US. I am sure there are areas in Canada that are great and cant be found in the US. I wont deny that. If I lived close to Canada, sure it would be a nice easy trip. As someone who lives in S. California, i would rather go south to warmer areas.
