Protesters have burned army vehicles after more than a dozen villagers were shot and killed by soldiers, who thought the villagers were “militants”, in India’s Nagaland state.
Indian security forces opened fire on civilians late on Saturday in India’s remote northeast region, which borders Myanmar, according to local media reports.1

The incident took place on the night of 4th December where the six Villagers from Oting Village who were heading back home from coal mining work at Tiru in a Pickup mini-truck were ambushed and killed by the Indian Army mistaking them for militants. They were unarmed and possessed no hint to be mistaken for militants but were murdered in cold blood. On hearing the gunshots, the village rushed to the spot being apprehensive given that, the individuals didn't return home from work, only to find the mini-truck and the Indian army trying to hide the dead bodies of the six individuals by wrapping and loading them in their truck. It was reported that they tried to act normal and some even put stuff above the dead bodies and even sat on it to avoid suspicion. The remains of blood from the mini-truck was also attempted to hide by putting sand in it. This indicates that their intention to hide the blunder made by them. Upon seeing the sceptical situation there, the village youths who appeared in the incident searched the truck and found the dead bodies after which the violence broke out between the villagers and the army. The villagers burnt down the trucks of the army and started attacking them with Dao and the machete they were carrying with them. Had they carried the locally made guns, the situation would have been even worse for both sides. However, in retaliation to the attack by the villagers, the Army fired them which led to the death of more individuals altogether 13 already and several left seriously injured. There are still some individuals missing in the jungle and their whereabouts are yet to be ascertained as to whether they are even alive or died.

This has been happening since the British left India. The Indian army came and massacred the Nagas in order to assimilate them into the Indian unx. Rapes, torture, killings, and beheadings were of common occurrence with the presence of Security Forces, ironically calling themselves "Friends Of The Hill People". In 1960, they also beheaded all the males of a particular village in response to an attack on one of their outposts by insurgent groups. This has been the traditional way of the security forces on dealing with " Security Matters".

Nagas were free people until the British came and colonized them in 1878 after successfully suppressing the Angami uprising. Although, Naga-land was never fully conquered by the British (only 1/3 of Naga-land was colonized by the British). The Nagas declared independence one day before India's independence on 14th August 1947. Naga-land was kept as an "Excluded Area" before India was granted independence by the British. Moreover, the Naga Hills was administered separately as a different entity...it wasn't part of British India. But unfortunately, after India's independence, the prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, and the prime minister of Myanmar, U Nu came to Naga-land uninvited and colonized them — eastern Naga-land by Myanmar and western Naga-land by India. The inhuman atrocities committed against the innocent Nagas remain untold until today. Pray for the restoration of Naga-land. They deserve to live under one nation. They deserve to get back their freedom. Say no to colonisation.

The AFSPA act have done nothing good to the region but brought more killings and more problem.
We Nagas have a long history of freedom movement before the Britisher left India. After since the Britishers left the killings and suppression of Nagas begins.
Mainland people as a broad minded people should know our history and also how much we have suffered enough in from the hand of Indian Army.
