This festival, Pow Wow, Gathering of the Nations or whatever you wish to call it is held every year in Albuquerque. "Interesting" is a mild, little adjective for such swirls of color, beats of the drums, and songs evoking goosebumps although you can’t understand a word. (I couldn’t understand them.) The Grand Entry was horribly dramatic one year when one of the leaders had trouble with the eagle feathers he was carrying. I couldn’t see what happened, but the simultaneous gasps of thousands of people followed by a profound silence froze me in place. After a year of three seconds, the announcement was made that the Gathering could continue.

Close to Vesak, you will start seeing many temporary road side shops popping up selling lanterns, lights, flags and other decorations.

You will also see many random people carrying lanterns home on the road.
