When I was 11-13 I had a group of friends who used to celebrate each others birthdays by covering the birthday kids locker full of things they liked (photos of celebrity crushes, favourite anime/show characters, favorite candy bars etc.) They did this for everyone in the group.

They just never liked me. My birthday was the first every school year, so it's not like they ever forgot.

I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade. My mom was throwing me a party at home and invited everyone in my class at school. She made a huge cake shaped like a GameBoy and I was stoked to have everyone I knew to come hang out and eat this cake. Day arrives and my cousin shows up...he lived next door and one other kid I knew from school arrived...his Dad worked with my mom. Hours went by and no one else arrived. I was crushed honestly. My Mom decided to make the party a sleepover with my cousin and the one friend from class but I remember when they left the next day, I just stared at the massive cake with a few cut out pieces and cried. My mom let me run my fingers through the icing as a consolation prize but that was a cold reality check. I felt like a fool for wanting others to like me or wanting to see me. It was dreadful going back to school and facing everyone that I felt rejected by. It was probably worse not saying anything about it to anyone.

现在看来我理解了其他家长们的用心，他们可能也不愿意把自己家的孩子带到拖车房车停车场去。这是我第一次意识到人们会用不同的方式去对待生活在更低的社会经济阶级的人群。这也是我最后一次为纪念自己的生日做任何事情。
也仍然是我不愿意庆祝自己或者别人的生日的理由。
Man that's shitty, I know exactly what you're talking about. I had the same experience, also in 2nd-3rd grade funnily enough. Invited my whole class, booked a party room at an arcade, even had pokemon booster packs as goodie-bags, no one showed except for my cousins. It was devastating, so I know how you feel. Was not expecting a reality check either, especially at that age. Because of that, I dislike celebrating birthdays as well. I'm sorry this happened to you too.

I never even bothered to invite my friends to my birthday parties. Only family. Aunts, cousins, grandparents and I live kinda alright. I never had friends so no one would even bother come for the free food. My parents did get fireworks, tho. that was the only plus.

Similar situation happened to me. It was 6th grade, my mother invited a bunch of my “friends” (classmates) to our house for my birthday party. I didn’t want her to do it , but she did anyway. She went all out with decorations and snacks, only 2 of my “friends” showed up. Those two are still my best friends now. It was so embarrassing going back to school the next time and having to face them, knowing what they thought of me. I have refused to have birthday parties since then, and even hate celebrating it with family.

That’s the spirit! My brother passed away a week after my birthday three years ago, so it’s always kind of somber leading up to it. I try to make light of it, though, and just remember him fondly and reflect on our friendship and inside jokes. I will be having a word with my parents about which one of my brothers now gets his birthday though. Thanks for the idea.

Definitely going through this. I begged someone to just be around me this past birthday because it's so lonely. They showed up at the last minute after more begging, it really sucks.

About twenty years ago. My girlfriend at the time wanted to have a meal at home as she said it was cheaper than going to the restaurant. But she couldn't cook so I had to cook it. Then she went out clubbing with a male friend of hers, and I wasn't invited.

Oh all good it is pretty funny. They thought my nuts were twisted which apparently needs to be treated really quickly before there are complications. Turns out I just had some inflimation instead.
